The idea was to pair up DM with RJ. Now we know Ainge wanted RJ plus assets plus 4-5 draft picks. We made extremely reasonable offers and it wasn’t enough buttrape. Whatever move on

OP might be right. Bucher also looks at the assets offered and has a point. The Knicks offers quality wise were all better than what Cleveland gave.

RJ was the best player offered in either the Knicks or Cavs packages.

Except Utah didn't want the best player. They want to lose for the next 4 seasons so they have a shot at Wembanyana this season and don't give up any of the lottery protected picks they owe the next 3 drafts afterwards. Sexton and Lauri will be easier to trade for additional draft assets in the future than RJ.

The players included in the Cavs deal will bring more picks than the players that the Knicks would have included. Cavs wil flip Lauri and Sexton.

Than eff him. The game don't stop, even in the off-season. Time to make the next play.

He did. He overplayed his hand and lost out.

The picks from Cleveland have a very good chance of being top 10 lottery picks.

Mitchell can opt out after the 2024/25 season.
Clevelands sends Utah their 2025 pick, 2026 swap, 2027 pick, 2028 swap, 2029 pick. That's control over 5 picks that might be top 10 lottery picks.

Ainge never cared about the players. He wanted picks. Utah had the better picks to trade since the 3 time All Star player they traded will likely opt out before the picks convey. Really nothing to see here. Knicks didn't have the better offer.

Ainge only wanted certain Knicks players in the deal because he thought it would negatively impact and weaken the Knicks increasing the value of the draft picks being conveyed to Utah (unprotected). It's all pretty simple if look at it logically.

The idea that Ainge made any move simply “for spite” is absurd. He is the GM of an NBA team and must answer to the owner, organization, and fans. I reckon pretty much everything we have heard about Knicks/Jazz/Mitchell is complete horses#!t. But that doesn’t keep fans and especially media from throwing it all out there as how it went down.

Anything to crap on the Knicks. If we traded for Mitchell they’d laughing about what a heist Ainge got back.

He speaks the truth, glad we didn't fold (though sounds like we came close to buckling)

Gee, I wonder who in the front office was the one pushing to give them all the young players and picks....?

danny ainge is vastly overrated.

check his draft picks. And i'll say he got lucky with Tatum. if he knew Tatum would be as good as he is he would have kept the number 1 pick. He has had a lot of duds. He has also alienated and mistreated people along the way. Isiah Thomas (the smaller one) effectively ruined his career playing through injury only to be snubbed. Didn't Horry through a towel in his face

this year celts turned there season around when they brought back glue guys Ainge had jettisoned. I hope Utah fumbles on his watch.

Was the exec there for 18 years. I won't defend him but Riles has some stinkers and has some sociopathic moments as a coach or exec as well.
The good ones have mixed track records and bad moments also.
In general "Phuch Boston" but its generally thought he should have won more than one chip.

Yup, it's easier to be the seller, when it comes to buying or doing equal trades he's failed more often than not to execute even the most basic trades. Though the Kyrie trade was impressive at the time (how he got the Cavs to settle for just an additional second when they realized that IT was damaged goods I'll never understand). Still the way he treated IT left it's mark for FA's- the way he treats players and his reputation is a hurdle when it comes to free agents wanting to sign with him.

I know, cute little Isiah was a year too late. "Tell danny to back the brinks truck up".......
The truck never came.
Did he keep playing out of loyalty or try to prove he was max?
If he stopped playing, could he have staved off further damage to the hip, or what it already there?
And would you have maxed out a 5-9 player who really had a short (no pun intended) time at that level?
The kid balled out and in a period of 10 months went from talking about the Brinks to a $2mm per year pay day.
Danny looked bad, but Issiah thru out some bad karma on it.
That team Ainge put together finished in first place. Danny had three really good runs in his 18 years. He drafted well and they really did succeed in all aspects but run more than one chip.

Man, I would pay just to sit at the table and watch those two eat and talk. The trade conversation was probably the least interesting of the topics they covered.

I have always enjoyed Chuck's take on things. Maybe i'm biased but when i think back to that time there seemed to be more mega superstars. i don't know if we'll ever see Larry and Magic simultaneously in their prime

Im just day dreaming here, if there is any truth to the reports that Ainge sent Mitchell to the cavs instead of the knicks out of spite, what if the Knicks shifts gears midseason if things aren't doing well and tanks. We all know that Ainge has his eyes on Wenbanyama. The Karma gods will finally bless the knicks and they win the lottery selecting Wenbanyame while the Jazz falls back a few picks landing late lottery. Highlighting the value of the Knicks pick.
