Well that would be to take minutes away from our youth as we make the push for Finals, you know, to put us over the edge because we are one player away obviously.

Don't we need a point guard to set up our bigs? Of course not, we need a one-on-one player who doesn't play D.

Why?

To be a role model for the youths. Duh

Take minutes away from who..did Things play knox and frank for the sake of development, he is a veteran coach that wants veteran players

Let's see. What's the one position that we cannot seem to find playing time for anyone because we have a league leader in minutes there? That's PF, currently held by Randle. Who cannot seem to find playing time ? That's Obi Toppin. If we add Melo that creates a logjam. Melo cannot play the 3 because he is like 6O years old already and cannot guard anyone at the small forward position. Our top draftee this year is also a 3. So Melo would be taking playing time and development away from Grimes if he ever is a part of a large lineup.
When it comes to Thibs that's exactly what I am afraid of, him being a veteran coach who took away development from Frank and Obi( although we saw Obi+Randle together at the end of our playoff run) and even to a lesser degree Quickley. So adding a geriatric player like Melo at the one position that we have a logjam already at is not a good move.

Maybe if Julius Randle had Melo backing him up @ PF, Julius Randle wouldn't break down come the playoffs due to having to lead the NBA in minutes played.

And maybe if Obi Toppin heading into his 2nd season could actually learn and develop under a future HOF PF in Carmelo Anthony during year #2; he'd (Obi Toppin) become ready to absolutely breakout come year #3 as an impactful role playing role player (because he isn't becoming no "superstar" PF while backing up an All-Star PF in Julius Randle.

Learning under both Julius Randle and Carmelo Anthony would have Obi Toppin prime (to emerge) heading into year #3.

And maybe after taking one look at Melo's defense, Thibs might've shaken his head and screamed out koud "I can't effin' do this!" Look, I don't feel strongly one way or another on this. But Melo isn't a necessity right now. He'll, they could bring Walt Clyde back for all I care as long as they taken care of the PG and wings situations first.

Always... always remember: Less is less. More is more. More is better and twice as much is good too. Not enough is bad, and too much is never enough except when it's just about right. - The Tick

Gallinari was the back up center for Atlanta's post season run,I think Melo could be used similarly.

The notion that players benefit more from being buried on the bench 'learning' than getting PT and plays drawn up for them baffles me.

Gallo was used to set moving picks for trae. Not sure if Melo wants that role

That said it looks like we are going hard after Lillard and Obi likely is part of the package. So yeah dong be shocked if Melo back for one more run at the garden happens
