FINALLY!

Finally?

I've been comparing him to Pierce since they drafted him. Finally someone else sees it too.

Yuck. Couldn't you guys compare him to a player I actually like? I know he does have some Pierce qualities but I just hate that dude. Every time I think of him I see 2 things. The wheelchair to poop and submarining Nate.

Fantastic development work by Fiz once again....

They weren’t starting from scratch. In the build-up to the 2019 draft Barrett and Hanlen had tweaked his shooting form, including making the unconventional decision to move Barrett’s shooting elbow slightly to the left (he’s left-handed) of his shoulder. Traditionally the goal is to have the shoulder, elbow and hand all in one line but Hanlen – who studied left-handed pitchers and quarterbacks for inspiration – thought that moving Barret’s elbow out would give him greater range of motion and make it easier to get his hand squarely under the ball.

The early returns were positive and Barrett was making progress but when he arrived at training camp the Knicks coaching staff then in place pushed back and demanded their prize rookie bring his elbow closer to his body again. The season turned into a struggle. The Knicks flailed to a 4-18 start, fired head coach David Fizdale and eventually cleaned out their management ranks too.

Barrett was caught in the crossfire.

“Not pointing fingers, but there was a level of frustration that he played with because he felt like he had made the shot change that he needed to make during the pre-draft and after putting three months of hard work to lock in those mechanics, they instantly go tweaked and changed to a place where he felt really uncomfortable and he lacked the confidence and consistency he needed,” said Hanlen.

Words can't describe how f'd this is.

Fiz geeting the rest of his contract is F*ckin highway robbery

Fiz is the worst basketball coach I ever saw.the Adam Gase of the knicks

I bet those numbers would have an even bigger gap if you included his first couple months of this season

This touches on a lot things in the article that was floated around a week ago, but its really nice to see how far he's come despite him having a long way to go. This Hanlen trainer might be really legit too considering the guys he's worked with. Hopefully RJ can connect him with Obi

The statistical improvement is incredible for a player so young. He seems to have all the necessary physical tools. Mentality wise I think is his biggest growth area. Made some great clutch plays. I don’t want to get carried away, but he could well be that franchise Knick we’ve longed for.
Anyone know who his competition is for MIP?

RJ Barrett's 30 plus minute rookie performance last season kept showing signs of a BUST!
RJ's offense and defense was terrible throughout his rookie season.
Our 2nd season 20 yr old SG-Barrett has been showing great signs of being the star-player we all expected from him throughout the 8 Game winning streak.

Ha Ha Ha .... Kobe? Pierce?
Paul Pierce were a clutch last-shot shooter throughout his rookie season, plus Pierce scored the majority of his points during the 2nd half of the game in his rookie season, covering for Boston star player name Walker.
And Kobe rookie performance was 2 or 3 steps behind the rookie super-star Allen Iverson.

RJ Barrett's 2nd half performance has always been non-existence, until recently it became a value to the Knicks team, after the Wolves rookie Edwards called RJ out at the end of the game on the 31st of March.
RJ has been playing like a star-role-player throughout the month of April.

His style of play is just like Pierce. Anyone comparing Barrett to Kobe....well....just isn't right.

The guy is basically a nightly double double as a 2 guard. His shooting has improved a lot this season. The lazy knick haters in the media who were labeling him a bust are looking dumber by the day

As the season has progressed, I get more confident when RJ shoots the 3 vsm at the start of the year, I'd always hold my breath when he shoots, now Im waiting for him to make it.

Hopefully he next works on his finishing during the off season, he has the strength to get back his defender, but does not have the elite touch to finish

Yes. And it seems like when he does not have his feet set RJ is not as an effective shooter

RJ has shown more improvement in his shooting than I would've expected at this point based on how he looked last year. If he can quicken that release and shoot off the dribble, I have no idea how far he can go. You guys were saying Pierce, but maybe a little bit of TMac?
