I know last year people were suggesting trading him for a #2 or even cutting him (no sense of course) but are you getting a player in his age range (approaching prime) and salary (excellent value actually). Which leaves the prospect of draft picks but unless it's a probable lottery pick why do it? And teams heading for the lottery aren't trading for Randle.

BTW, I put this on another thread but would you put Randle in a trade for KP today?

Yes, yes, yes. I don’t care how jerk-ass his brother is. I would make that trade every day. The Mavs would laugh about it before slamming the phone, obviously but the Knicks would be silly for turning that down.

Man, I really miss the drama. The tweets, the snide comments. Sometimes I wonder how is it that we are able to function as a team without Porzingises broken ass on that bench. I understand that Randle's triple doubles are not attractive to you and watching our center average 7 rebounds while playing but mostly just sitting on the bench healing from yet another injury is much better.

And don't forget that great KP contract too! 4 years at 30+ million each! What a fantastic bargain that would be! Leon would be crazy to pass that up! And he just had one great game! Led us to all those great 17 win seasons! Good times!

Absolutely nothing.

We aren’t bringing back an AllStar without giving up all our draft compensation for 4+ years. We aren’t ready for any big leap at the moment either.

Stand pat, try to secure an asset for Burks and maybe move Payton to a team that really need as depth.

The Knicks are fighting but they aren’t close. Culture is happening players are improving. You miss the playoffs and you nail the Dallas pick and our lottery selection. Just this year Bey, Precious, Quikly, Pritchard all went as late round selections. We need wing help in the worst way.

Next season is when you make your move with Randle expiring, Mitch due a contract, see if Obi and Knox are anything... etc

Bradley Beal... the question is the price. Washington might also be buyers if they are close and want to see how Russ/Beal look for a stretch together

At 7-8, we're doing okay. We'll improve from within, banking on our player dev personnel to get more out of our young players. Heck, we're finally getting close to full strength. Burks will get us another starter quality player in the mix. Does this make us a top 4 playoff team in the east with Thibs?

I think Thibs wants us to make a big trade that gets us the foundational pieces to be competitive for the next 3-5 years. We have a lot of assets - good young players + a boatload of draft picks + cap space, so if we see that superstar gamechanger, we have the tools to get it done.

Based on how Randle is playing, he's literally one of the top big men in the NBA, worth of consideration for an All-NBA team spot. You don't get much better than that. The Knicks should be looking to upgrade literally everything else.

Hypothetically speaking, we can accelerate team progress to contention by upgrading our SG spot with a Brad Beal (35ppg!) or CJ McCollum (27ppg!) type SG - These guys are basically prototypical SG offensively. If you pair either of these guys with Randle, you'd have the foundation of a championship contending offense. (downside on both is that they're slightly undersized, but on the plus side they overindex on PG skills)

So do you hope RJ's 3's start falling at a 35% clip a few years from now, or do you think you can trade assets to get that guy now?

Each time you draft a player, you need 3 to 4 yrs for that player to develop, your not allowed to trade consecutive draft picks, so it would be every other yr

You have a win now coaching staff

If you have randle playing at a sure enough all star level, how does adding an additional player at his level hurt the franchise.

It would be like waiting for Danilo or wilson chandler to play up to melos level.

I would trade RJ and others for Booker as he seems to possess that clutch confidence that I don't quite see in Beal or McCollum - plus they're older so I would pass for that reason. Not sold on Randle as the main guy but do think the players you mentioned have the necessary outside shooting to help Randle if he is more of the focus offensively.

Sit tight for this year and next for the most part. 2022 is when you can get all stars without the cost of giving up oodles of picks.

Olapido but only at the price of one draft pick restricted plus cap space.

I have ZERO interest giving NO multi assets for Ball. Olapido in the right setting could be great

You know what that setting is? Starting for free in the 2021 offseason after you eval him for the full season.

We need shooters, I’d be shocked if we make any moves especially big moves ... we have a nice core of players that are building chemistry and 2 first round picks both likely in the low teens . We can easily address shooting in the draft .

I really like the direction of this team.

Mitch,Noah like that paint protection
Randle, obi prolific depth, obi will shine with more time in the second unit
Rj,knox very young and still evolving
Bullock, burks ... this is our hole hopefully fix in draft
Quick, ball? Frank?

We need to improve the 2 guard and backup pg I also think Lonzo ball is best suited career backup unless he starts shooting 36-40% from 3

I think you can kiss Payton and rivers good bye or keep rivers for depth as a 3rd string .

Knicks1248 sees alot of similarly between Frank and Lonzo, to a certain extent i see what he means. They both do the same things one is just better at one thing than the other and vice versa. If the FO is indeed interested with Lonzo why not take a gamble on signing him in the offseason. Lavar has been vocal with wanting one of his sons as a knick. For the meantime why would the FO and Thibs commit to letting frank loose for the rest of the season to see how its like to have a Lonzo type of player in the line up.

Maybe they can concentrate in trading for a shooter at the shooting guard position by the trade deadline like Heild. Maybe they send out Bullock, Dsj, Iggy and a second rounder or 2? Or should they take a gamble and trade for Monk instead?

Who can they target at the shooting guard?

Knicks aren’t missing the playoffs. Better make peace with no lotto pick unless Dallas falls flat. Knicks are making the playoffs this is a good defensive team.

I'm looking at consolidating and upgrading. Lonzo would be nice but if the offense is going to be initiated by Barrett, you need a shooter in that spot. Burks and Bullock are nice but if you can come up with a package to consolidate and upgrade or pull a trade with an unused bench piece for a guy like Dougie McBuckets in Indy, McLemore or Gordon (Gordon as a stopgap vet) in Houston, a guy like Ingles from Utah...

I think they need to find on backcourt shooter at PF/C and then need a wing shooter, preferably a swing guard who is a PG/Sg as opposed to a SG/PG.

We got the money too so it makes sense.

Lonzo is playing real bad so he could maybe be traded for cheap. Like we need a PG upgrade and their just aren’t a lot of good options out there.

Oladipo at this point is nothing more than a spot shooter and we have Burks who is the same thing but better

It is very likely that the best course of action is going to be to stand pat and see more of what this team actually is. Giving up assets or throwing a bunch of money at lonzo ball or Victor oladipo is a bad move. Oladipo is going to end up seeking a max deal and he isn't as good as a player as say Kemba Walker or Gordon Hayward, other players I don't want at the NBA Max.

Obviously sign me up for moving in for Booker or Bradley Beal, but the likelihood of Booker becoming available is somewhere between slim and none and with Beal we just don't know yet. Being a buyer is not in play for me unless you are going to grab an All-Star that can move the needle.

Think aiming for LaVine & Markkanen is the move.. both will be restricted free agents which can work in the Knicks favor regarding compensation.. my initial thought would be Toppin, Knox, Smith Jr. & Ntlinkina with a protected #1 could maybe get it done.

The only issue with this Randle and Mitch need to be paid.

The rumors are Mitch wants an extension not RFA and Randle’s cap hold would kick in and eat cap space.

The Knicks don’t got to trade, but they got to do something sooner or later
