Who is the better player; Randle or Porzingis?

I am being careful how I word this because "who would you rather have" is clearly Randle when you consider contract and health comparisons.

Randle isn't necessarily a "franchise player" but is looking like a guy you can at least build an offense around and be a winning team under the right circumstances.

It feels like Randle has been in the league so much longer, but he is only 1 year older than Porzingis, putting them essentially at the same points in their careers. They basically traded Porzingis and are left with Randle and 2 first round picks yet to be used when you factor in the outcome that followed the deal.

So who is the better player?

Randle
Porzingis

its worked out. We used the cap space for Randle/Morris. Morris netted us a FRP who becomes IQ. We all love that move. Randle becomes a stud at PF and looks great playing next to Mitch.

We have a squad that Thibs can coach up and nice draft assets coming in.

Don’t forget the Dallas picks

Conidering their value at the time. Perry did a good job of trading Melo, and KP, while keeping an eye on the future. How we got Mitch, as well as Quickley.

Perry has been shrewder in terms of salaries given out and collecting assets. Have questions about his ability to build a team. But so far I can’t complain to much given the results.

Perry doesn't seem to have a good team-building sense but is a good enough GM to make moves while giving himself an 'out'. He didn't shoot himself in the foot enough to lose his job, and i think he's experienced enough as a GM where if there's strong leadership in place (as there seems to be now) he can provide value. It seems like he's letting the top guys focus on the team building and Perry is doing the grunt work and little things to make it happen since the plan is provided for him.

The biggest problem with the trade was the rush the Knicks were in.

They bought at Noah adding 6MM of dead space to the cap for three years and then Moved KP for a bag of balls without letting teams get in the mix.

Randle, Quickly and the picks is turning into a good package, but it’s the stupidity of the way they used the cap space.

We cleared THJR’s salary and then signed the contracts below

$15MM for Bobby Portis
$10MM for Gibson
$8MM for Ellington

There were multiple dumps and we could have gotten more capital for future deals.

The great thing about this offseason was the price of each free agent. Rivers at $3MM!! Reminds me of Justin Holiday, he’s a great rotation piece, we signed Ron Baker over him and then Ellington, Bullock. Stupid **** like that is maddening. There is a diamond every year with a bad agent you can lock in for peanuts.

Finally having a front office that knows what they are doing and can execute on draft picks will make this trade a win. Have to trust that they will turn these Dallas picks into something!!!

Definitely not. Knicks needed to fail bad enough to get headed in the right direction and get the right people here. But Porzingis with injuries, his brother's menacing, his off the court issues of fights at a club and rape allegations, his growing ego, and his distancing from teammates, he became part of the problem it seems. A lot of the issues that are coming to a head with Harden in Houston were happening in NY with Porzingis, only worse when you consider he's not as good of a player and the injuries.

Why are we not hearing Nothing about that since he's been in Dallas. I can't remember a single Knick fan (other than myself and a couple others) that had any concerns about KP's injuries, and was flat out willing to give him the MAX despite his fatigue concerns and his injuries. Then he asked for a trade, and all of a sudden he's an ass hole, who's his injury prone

Even when his brother clearly stated a yr prior that they would not be signing any extension until they see progress, the knicks respond with a TANK mentality, and most knick fans thought that was tough talk and figure no rookie is going to turned down a max contract. I indicated KP was not no AAU player that grew up in a poor environment.

The Fans that blame kp for leaving more than they blame the front office for forcing his hand are ridiculous, because he was the 4th player that wanted out from under that regime that could attract a single all star in 7 yrs

I'm not sure that narrative is true. The stories that leaked out indicated KP and his brother are divas. Take a deep dive into KPs brother's social media and you'll see maybe he was up his own @$$. Also, you did hear rumblings of KP being frustrated with his role in Dallas behind Luka. Not saying the Knicks are blameless, but KP is no victim. Besides it's in the past. As for who's better right now, it's Randle by default since he can actually play. KP is clearly more talented on both side of the ball and should be a HOFer if he keeps working hard. But his unwillingness to pass and make plays for his teammates and his push back against playing center makes him tough to build a sustainable winning team around him. Teaming up with Fat Luka was an ideal scenario.

True, but you can't deny the talent is there.

I'm answering this question based on who I think is the better talent, so I have to go with KP.

Currently, Randle is playing better than KP ever played in his career. But it's only 8 games. Can he keep it up? Time will tell. Keep in mind, KP's last season here we got off to a solid start with him as our top guy. In 2017-18 we started the season 10-7 and KP was averaging around 26 ppg.

I more piss off at the idiot who traded him for dog sht...Kp was just one of a host of terrible decisions that got MILLS FIRED

I never in my life seen a player request a trade and hours later he's gone. If anything I'm trading him to the worst team in the league if I'm going to take draft picks, definitely not a playoff team that's destined to have a bottom of the draft pick. Now you have fans wishing luka would get hit by a car..

If we got top tier talent in return, nobody would ever bring KPs Name up, but fans know we got totally high jacked and they blame KP like he a NTC

where's Harden after he requested houston to trade him, almost demanded it..How long did it take the Pels to trade A D?

we got two soft ass injury prone PG's in Frank and DSJ, 2 divas in their own right (thanks to mills), yet you calling KP soft (which he really is..lol).

Randle is the better all around player and it’s not even close, your talking about a guy who doesn’t make others around him better in KP . When healthy KP averages 20pts, 9 reb, 1 assist per game, other then weak side shot blocking has a hard time defending the perimeter. His conditioning is awful, numbers and consistency fade with usage, it’s amazing how KP can disappear in games when he’s not scoring . He’s not a +/-player he’s more of a taller melo he gets his but that’s it.

Randle is the PF version of LBJ with the right coach in thibs, even when he’s not scoring he’s having a huge impact on winning. weather it’s rebounding, getting teammates open looks, or making a impact on defense. He’s becoming one of the most complete players in the NBA and at 26 he’s just heading into his prime, so his numbers should get even better which is scary .

Right now randle averaging 23pts 12 rebs 7 assists shooting 49% from the field. Right now he’s the top PF in the game.

KP has a long way to go to get to randle’s level of play

The Knicks have the hardest schedule in the NBA after watching other teams thibs has the Knicks playing like a well oiled machine. With randle playing like the best PF in the game, Mitch playing like the best defensive center in the league and our role players sticking to there strengths I don’t think we’re just making the playoffs. I think we are gonna make some noise in the postseason as well.

Yeah I wanted him gone before the season started I was wrong, I’ll eat it . I never though he was a bad player I knew he was really good, I didn’t know he would be this good with great coaching. Plus with us drafting Toppin, I thought the general consensus was to move on from JR but thankfully we didn’t !

Same here. Good player, bad fit. But he’s become a great player and turned himself into a good fit too.

Did you say any of this 2 months ago? If Randle can keep this up over 72 games, I'll co-sign. I just can't go that far off of 8 games.

I hear ya, for me personally, I just don’t see how he can regress with the great coaching staff we’ve put together... I think the staff has given randle his best chance to play his strengths, while not putting to much on his plate.

Agreed. I'll easily take this version of Randle over KP at his best.
Who is the better player; Randle or Porzingis?
