I see him as better then Wilkens give him time hes ONLY 20 years old

Wilkins was one of the faster players in transition. RJ doesnt have Wilkins burst, but Wilkins couldnt slice and dice his way to the rim, in halfcourt. The way RJ can. I see a player who doesnt settle for mediocrity. Not concerned at this point about his streaky shooting.

Shortsighted emotional avg fan response to label young players. Law of averages might back it up but then is it our job to look or be correct and predict a payers career or just enjoy the game and our team?

I think it's important (from a fan standpoint) to dream about Barrett's upside.

Consider this wing:
30.8mpg, 17.5ppg, .387FG, .326 3pt%, 100% FT, 3.5apg, 4.3rpg, 1.8spg.

Remarkably similar production to RJ (this player is better in most categories; =apg; RJ's a better rebounder).

That's Dillon Brooks on Memphis (2017 draft: 45th overall pick), age 24 (soon to be 25). Amazing production from a 2nd round pick. Absolute steal.

If RJ (age 20) still looks like this 4 years from now, he'd probably be a bit of a disappointment - not bad but you would have hoped for more.

#3 overall picks have historically been pretty good. Obviously starting with Michael Jordan, you can include the likes of Doncic, Tatum, Embiid, Beal, Harden, Horford, Gasol, Carmelo, Stackhouse, Billups, Grant Hill, Penny Hardaway. (also Dominique, McHale)...

2 good games: Barrett is a future star
2 bad games: He's a bust and time to bench him

Not to bench him, but also not to give him such heavy minutes so as to wear him out and render him ineffective.

RJ is our only hope, so we need to play him to see if he develops into a star. If it does not happen in another couple of years, at least we will know for sure that it wasn't meant to be.

I have to ask is Barrett really a lefty? His form looks so forced almost like a right hand player forcing himself to be left handed.

Really having a hard time watching Barrett. I don't think it's a matter of confidence, he's just a bad shooter. He constantly throws up shots that are air balls or hits the backboard and not rim. That's not just being off he's just not a shooter. And as Clyde said, if you can't shoot by the time your in the league it's too late.

I'd cut his minutes big time and give him the ultimatum...you are not allowed to shoot if your father that 15 ft. from the hoop. Even then, he'll probably still struggle. BTW, over the last 10 years I don't see any draft picks that would be considered a pure shooters. You can't win games without them.

We are in serious trouble if he can't get his shooting to at least an average NBA player. All the good feelings I had a week ago are gone

The Knicks are 5-6. Were you expecting more in the first 11 games ? And Barrett for all his shooting struggles is clearly a better player this year. Better free throw shooter, rebounder and defender. I think we can’t get too high or too low and just let the process play itself out over the season.

Barret is all that and 20 years old. He gets all kind of passes.
Its not like he is 22 like Frank and over the hill.

I am not destroying RJ too hard or am I trying to go too far with "I told you so," but there were some well regarded scouts (who I felt made good sense) who were nowhere near as high on him as many of our fans were due to what we are seeing now and what others saw in college.

He started fantastic last year, and then we slowly started to see where the weaknesses were. He's not an athletic freak, but very strong and savvy around the hoop. His attitude and "work ethic" are there, so that is where a lot of the hope comes from.

I feel he can be a strong piece to have on any good team, but it will take some real growth (he might do it) to realize his potential or be anything other than maybe a 3rd option.

I'm rooting for him and there's time for growth, but Mitch does seem to be that one more so to me as other observers have noted, and who is showing more improvement this season.

Forum Po Po and #33 for a reason...

Well.. after watching his performance in crunch time today. I was disappointed in RJ. We had the momentum and he tried to do some trickery. Then had another TO after that. I love the confidence but he also needs to be realistic about his strengths n weaknesses.

Born in Brooklyn, Raised in Queens, Lives in Maryland. The future is bright, I'm a Knicks fan for life!

Knicks are letting him play thru it.
He is looking for Mendoza and then will shove Rebeccas Mike up his ass.

There were also plenty of scouts that said he would be better in the NBA because he would have real nba spacing (which he doesn’t have here .) This was considered a 3 player draft. It wasn’t until the Knicks landed the 3rd pick that people started ****ting on Barrett because they knew he was likely the 3rd pick. And it’s well documented that Memphis was really interested in him because wing players have more value than PGs but he refused to work out for Memphis. It’s also well documented that New Orleans was offering Ingram and a future pick (or the 10th pick I can’t remember ) for Barrett to pair he and Zion and rebuild around them. The rep around Barrett is now tied to the Knicks and their inability to fit pieces around him from the start that maximize his talent.
