If Thibs keeps starting him really I have to wonder what’s going on

Yeah I’d rather play Jared Harper over Payton. If you can’t spread the floor as a pg you don’t belong in the nba.

The guy does nothing even league average.

As much as I hate DSJ I’d much rather see him out there

DSJ is NOT a point guard. He only plays PG because he's 6'2". Payton was horrible in game one, but he is capable of playing respectably. Honestly, we have no good options at the point other than hoping Quickley is the real deal. We would just be trading off one problem for a different problem between Frank, DSJ and Payton.

With Quickley out at least another week Frank is our best pg. it’s really not even close

Check out his game log from last year.

I'd be ABSOLUTELY thrilled if Frank could come in and average close to 10ppg/44%fg/7apg/5rpg/1.7stl in 28mpg like Elfrid did last season.
BUT... Frank doesn't get that level of production even if you stretch Frank's minutes to 36mpg!

It's great that he improved his free throw shooting last season, but he rarely draws fouls, doesn't make shots, and doesn't put any pressure on the defense. Frank on the floor perhaps creates even worse spacing than Payton does.

There has never been a player that has been jerked around like Frank. Dude has never been given the honest shot. Last year Miller was using him and trusting him and the results were showing. They team performance was better over all defense was better. And we were seein GN a Frank growing as a player. What did he get a management overhaul. And it’s back to the drawing board for him. To boot the new President is the guy he let go as his agent. You can’t make this shyt up. This guy is never going to get the shot he deserves to get.

I think besides the CAA the other reason this franchise has treated Frank so terribly is Isiah Thomas, who is still in the building and the real GM, never liked Frank.

Phil is the only GM the Knicks have had since Donnie Walsh that was allowed to act independently of Isiah’s bs. Phil picked Frank, over Isiah’s boy DSJ. That’s why Isiah couldn’t wait to trade KP for DSJ years later. DSJ is obvious hot garbage and Isiah thinks he knows pgs so he signs this scrub Payton who can’t shoot, play defense and turns the ball over like crazy

This. Even if Frank doesn’t shoot well he provides defense. We are a very good defensive team with him and Mitch on the floor

One of the difference between the two is Payton will at least attempt to get to the hoop. Frank still doesn't seem interested in getting to the rim. I think this is a situation similar to the most popular player on a football team is the backup quarterback...until he plays. If we just played Frank I give it two weeks before the "We Need to Talk about Frank Ntilikina" thread is created.

Elf is so interested he scored 0 points last night

Think he earned a spot out of the rotation. RJ deserved to be pulled in the 4th. Did we have NO ONE else to put in there?

Yeah, but Frank is just as likely to post a donut too. Ironically, look at Frank's third game of last season, 0 points in 22 minutes.

That was last season. I want to see better 3 point shooting from him this year. If we see improvement from 3 then Frank becomes our homegrown Devin Vassel. So far he is looking sharp on his 3's. I know the sample size is small, but it's what we got

I would love to see that from Frank and I hope he gets his chance. Just not holding my breathe though. 2-3 from three during pre season, 0-2 in real games for Frank. Not sure I would consider that sharp.

I thought that signing Payton last year was a reasonable risk. He was a player I had liked a lot when he was being drafted and wished he had been selected by the Knicks.

However, he has not matured as hoped and while, off the bench, he has some utility - starting him is a waste of time.

This title thread sounds like the title of one of those HBO family drama specials they used to play back in the day? The thread title should be changed simply to "Trash."

Just shut all of us up in one game. Not sure Frankie or DSJ could have a game like that yet on their day but season is still early.

Yeah, I stand corrected. Plus he is showing out tonight! Hopefully this is the beginning of the end of the Frank/DSJ debate. You called it!!!!

Big game by Payton after two bad performances in the first two games. Guess we gotta see if he can continue this momentum into next game

Agreed. I never wanted to put too much pressure on Quickley right out the gate. Charlotte doesn't even start Lemelo yet (of course he's got better guards in front of him).

I'm expecting typical Payton. Everytime you want to like him he'll post another performance like last night.
