I hate this to be an Obi vs Vassell thing. I liked both players coming out of college

Unfortunately how did that turn out for either one?

Well my major point is that rushing to conclusions is stupid. Frank was roasted for two years plus by the DSJ camp -- of the two I'd say Frank at least has some NBA future. Of course there are phony revisionists who say we should have taken Mitchell. Well, yeah, only no one was saying it at the time. And now the lead heads trash Obi and wet their pants over who they thought we should have taken. Maybe they're right but perhaps we let Obi play another game or two first.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Yeah I was there for that I got roasted for a long time until the Knicks traded for DSJ and found out what a loser he is

Obi and Vassell are both going to be really good

Definitely. I even said as rookies I preferred Frank over DSJ in spite of his stats in Dallas. I think all of this Obi discussion is way premature, especially referencing passing on Vassell being a mistake based on a couple of pre-season games.

All anyone had to do is read the Dallas message boards when DSJ got traded to us to get a hint that this wasn't going to end well for us. Most were happy to see him shipped out of Dallas.

He’s horrible. And so is Payton. They are maybe the two worst +\- players in the nba and that’s our platoon at pg

For me, Frank is a much better version of Vassell

Vassell can shoot, put ball on floor as well or better than Frank and is probably as good a defender.

Is he a PG ? Why are we talking about him then? I thought we have RJ who plays his position. Don't give me " should not have passed on Jordan because of Clyde" That is something you cannot control. Franchise players get passed on a lot. Every damn draft. The only way to justify drafting him will be in 3 years when we can see the results

We're talking about him because he seemed like a perfect fit that would be available at 8 - a sure starter that would offset some of the other player's deficiencies (3 and D guy). You draft him you have your 2 and 3 positions set and can then figure out how to add to the team equation. If this was 2010 I'd be more excited with Obi as I loved watching Amare play - but the game has changed and even though I truly believe Obi will be a solid player/contributor - the way he plays doesn't seem current to today's game. Vassell will probably never be as exciting a player (like a Mikal Bridges) - but you can cross off the wing position and start filling in the other holes on the team - and we have so many!

Vassell/Courtney Lee types can be found at any time. In fact, is he any better than Burks? Vassell will probably look better early because he's playing on a better team. Don't get fooled into thinking he would look the same way with the Knicks. I would rather swing for the fences with Obi than draft another wing guy capable of being the 4th guy in the rotation.

I don't think we had the luxury of passing on Obi. Vassel is basically a smaller Reggie Bullock( prior to joining the Knicks ) Guys like that are available as free agents every year

I like Bullock but if these guys are always available - how come we don't have any? I'm talking about defensive stoppers that can also score/shoot from outside? We could have solved this by taking Mikal Bridges but Knox outplayed Miles Bridges in 1on1 so we passed and took him instead. Bullock is a very good outside shooting swingman - but he's no defensive lock. Burk may work out but he's like 30 years old and we're trying to build a core of young guys. I like Obi and will root for him - but think we got caught up in potential and highlights instead of picking someone with a similar philosophy to our new coach/Defense. Okoro would have fit the mold even though he's outside shooting needs work... Only way Obi works on this team is if his NBA athleticism is college-like and we shift to build around him OR we dump Randle and possibly Mitch as you can't play Randle and Obi defensively - same way you will struggle to play Mitch and Obi together - unless Mitch starts shooting and/or becoming a scoring threat to some degree.

Sarcasm. Figured every thread ends up as a Frank thread.

As for thread topic. Vassell is a mute point. We picked the best player available. Happy with pick. Anyone pushing the narrative of Vassell, who I liked early but changed my mind after seeing his shooting mechanics, is short sighted after just 2 games.
