They even made the World Series and the playoffs. But they had significant injury setbacks - Wheeler, Harvey, Cespedes, and just about every reliever on the team. And their old patch up hitters just got old.

Now they're in a new phase - the Mets have quietly become one of the top hitting teams and have a very young productive lineup. They hit jackpot on a number of young position players, but the pitching is decidedly patchwork at the moment. Stroman's calf injury really set the team back. (the Cano/Diaz trade was probably not necessary - the Mets didn't realize they already had a 2B of the future in McNeil and could have had more prospects in the pipeline)

6 years ago let Murphy go
Last year let Wheeler go

Huge self inflicted wounds

To have the best pitcher in baseball and a decent hitting team and not compete?

Justin Turner.

the mets are the one team coming into this year that i thought would do something then here they are disappointing again. if they could not make this playoffs with the format the way it is, then something is wrong. brodie's days are numbered. i do like that he was more aggressive than sandy, who was too patient in many instances, but it produced no results. he has been here for two years and the best players on the team are still the players sandy brought ( we will see if brett batty will be any good in the future). cano was average. diaz is too inconsistent. the pitchers we signed ( wacha and porcello) are iffy. stroman trade looks like a bust. i think the most egregious thing he did was past over girardi for beltran, which blew up in his face. degrom's opportunity is rapidly closing and we need an experience manager to lead us in the playoffs with success. his ego caused him to hire beltran and then rojas. i do not dislike rojas but this is the first time managing an mlb team, different than farm teams. a change is definitely needed.

Cohen is going to spend the money to win

If only the nba had no salary cap

They looked pretty good Sunday! Of course the Eagles looked pretty bad. But they played hard and smart and Jonesy has been taking better care of the ball.

Agreed. I was hoping Eli was going to squeeze one more out in the last decade, so it would have been at least one SB every decade, but that wasn't to be.
Kids these days... they have no appreciation of history... lol

I know it's mean and slightly petty, but the Jets just make me laugh. Leave it to them to screw up tanking...

Have buddies that are Jet fans. Feel bad for them. Kinda of hard rooting for Giants to get another one. With so many in need of just one out there.

How many of you wanted Haskins over Jones? Looks like they made the right call. Still no Tom Brady Go Bucs!!

If Mike Evans gets about 50 more yds receiving he will have 1000 yds his first 7 seasons in the league, breaking Moss's record of 6.

Hey, Gustav, whatever happened to your boy Winston? that is some replacement QB you got. Amazes me, the distance the Patriots have fallen without TomBoy.

Amazes me the distance Brady is throwing the deep ball. Considering his age and they ran a more conservative offense in NE. Fun to watch. Made the playoffs for first time since 07'. Believe we face the Falcons next ,their Head Coach was the Bucs head coach, last time we were in the playoffs.

Last time I checked Winston was the number 3 QB with the Saints, ouch.

I’m not a Haskins fan or really fan of any Ohio St qb which is why I don’t want my Jets drafting Fields

That said Jones has regressed significantly this season

I’m so not into football this year. Been in Football decline for a few yeas now. Way too much player movement to keep up.
Baseball has also lost my interest and Im reduced to a cause a fan.
NBA it’s 15 roster is easier to follow. The off season chess moves of players and contacts still holds my interest.
Knicks seem about it for me these days.
I have taken up F1 racing due in part to Netflix series of “F1-Drive to survive”. Very slick production with mini drama’s. The technology is fascinating. I don’t watch the qualifying but keep up with headlines and DVR the races on Sunday mornings. ESPN carries them commercial free. races last just under 2 hours. Some are fascinating, some are boring. Just like any other sport.
I do watch some tennis as I do play it. Tennis channel is a thing. Golf puts me to sleep. Used to play it but took too much time and the kids came first.
Jets are a **** show beyond comprehension. Obviously WOody gets blame but incredible how insignificant this franchise has been for so long. Giants with Eli was a great run. With two bowls and dominance over the dreaded Pats his short comings were forgivable. To me its just wrong to promote the hate after two bowl wins in a career. Would Knick fans have rided Clyde like that had he not been traded to Cleveland?
We in better shape? Can we put the Mets in the mix now???

Funny, remember the comedy and drama off Steinbrenner 1980’s run and from the dysfunctional ashes came a patient approach to building thru the farm and a top modern dynasty thru the Jeter era? Even mistakes were not fatal like the Drew Henson seduction and “Hidecki” the fat frog.......Jeter, Bernie, Posata and Rivera more than made up for it. That and steroids.

why if during the 2000 World Series when Clemons picked up Piazza’s broken bat he actually would have harpooned him? Go back to that again and think how ****ing crazy that moment was. He picked up the splintered bat an thru it at the base runner. What in gods name went thru his mind that he did not grasp any reality to his actions but instead thru the bat?
