Every team he was on wasn't shedding tears when he left.

Ryan West practically got on his knees and begged the Lakers not to take him in the draft.

At bare minimum, Elfrid Payton and Randle should never be on the floor together. I swear to God if Thibs watches that combo for long enough, he's gonna walk on the the court and punch them both in the face for freezing out Barrett yet again.

I mean everyone probably has a “hater” but overall I think his game just pissed us off. He can be such a beast in the paint and on the boards. There is no reason he can’t develop a 1 dribble inside game. He has that talent. Instead, he just seems to play with his eyes closed.

Well there are a few parts of the rumor that makes sense.

Conley is a CAA Client
The Knicks hired Some of the Jazz former staff so they have a good relationship by default
The Knicks were discussing trading for CP3 to mentor the PG they draft. Conley can do that too and he fits Thibs style
The Knicks would likely swap picks with the Jazz so they go from #27 to #23
Conley might play well enough to get a 2-3 year contract with the Knicks meaning whoever they draft can be mentored longer
The Knicks could probably add DSJ to the trade
Even if it doesn’t work, Conley is a massive expiring so they kick the can one more year

For the Jazz
They save money. Even if the Knicks add DSJ they save $10 mil in salary cap
Randle coming off the bench as a 6th man scorer works. That was his role in NO and he did it well
Randle and DSJ are expirings so they take a chance and if it doesn’t work they can move on
Pick #27 should still get them something decent. Also Perrin knows their draft board. He never sounded enthused by this draft so a trade back shouldn’t be a deal breaker.

Not all veterans, even those was call “leaders” make for good mentors. I’m not even sure CP3 is a good mentor. He exhibits fantastic leadership and respected but that is not always what a mentor is.
Exhibit “A” would be Michael Jordan. A great leader. Magic Johnson. Miserable coach and Lazy GM.
Tell me other than being 32 years old and a good player and seemingly a good guy how Conley is should be viewed as a mentor vs. leader?
Jazz have vested in our castoff Mudiay who did very well last season. How many of our head cases they want?
The PG/Alpha need to be an extension of the coach and his personality. DRose and Jimmy butler thrived under Thibs. They were bulldog personalities who responded well to his intensity. Luol Dang was an all star too.
I know Frank is seen as this fragile young Frenchman who shy’s from the spotlight but I see a guy who was going to the rim, challenged guys on dunks and while uneven (young players are uneven) was making strides on offense. Don’t matter how I see him, its Thibs that has to. If not he’ll be traded soon enough.
As for conley, Utah paid a big price for him as a finishing piece. Do they give up after one strange ass season? Does Donovan Mitchell calm down a bit now he got his Max and blend with conley?
Dennis. He lacks the ability to know when to be playmaker and when to attack because his whole life he attacked. His supreme athletic ability was used. He was Baron Davis. Baron’s career lasted longer than most even with a bad back. Dennis is Kyrie, Dennis is Kenny Anderson, Dennis is like so many that by age 30 are worn out like an NFL running back. Dennis is 23 and has yet to stay healthy enough to have long stretch and adapt to the speed and power of the NBA. By now he should be exhibiting other tools to contribute if the ball is not fallin thru the net.
This is his contract year. I expect him to be in tippy top form and give his best effort. The money all comes down to what he does this upcoming season. He is one bad back strain from being late knicks Marbury but without the allstar years in between.
I hope I’m wrong BTW. I hope he and Thibs are a beautiful combo and the chemistry with Frank is magical were both exist on the court as was Fizdale’s dream. Hope eternal!!! A boy can dream.

The Conley trade idea makes more sense than a CP3 trade for all those reasons and a few more.

First let's stop pretending that Thibs is starting a pre-school program for players. Conley will come in to win. Ntilikina and Harper will see his face in their grill if they need mentoring. And Conley won't be doing nice guy State Farm commercials featured freaky stalker characters. Conley, by any metric, is closer to Thibs' school of thought than CP3.

I also like the potential trade exchange better. Ship out Randle, DSJ, and Knox...
