Do you fire Fizdale?

On pace to win 20 games. I know I said give him until all star break but I just didn't expect him to be this horrible. We added a potential ROY, an improved Knox, a guy coming off a career season and 2+ solid vets. There are teams a lot worse off than we are but are somehow not managing to suck as much as we do.

On the other hand, there isn't an interim coach available right now who can swoop in and make a real difference so do you wait until season is over?

Sure the players like him and play hard usually for him but that's only a small part of being a coach.

I dont think Fiz has been a good coach but what system do you run when 3 out of your 4 PGs have been hurt for a majority of the season, and we can all see that DJ is still not 100%. Where your starting C is a foul machine. Where you don't have a guy who can really break down an offense and get his own.

You keep spouting off about positionless and I have no idea what you mean. Fiz may talk about it but I feel it's more a distraction than anything, seems like the Knicks are running similar'ish sets as everyone else.

How about simply setting some screens to allow more penetration? Randle shouldn't be bringing the ball up either. Not spouting anything either. Just giving my opinion. I've still been behind Fizdale, I want the guy to do well here

OK, tell us the guys that set good picks.

And tell us what you think positionless basketball is and how the Knicks are doing it, cause I have no idea

My wife and I tried it "positionless" and I needed a Chiropractor!

This seems to be the most compelling at this point. I definitely don't trust Mills to hire another head coach. I love the new mindset he and Perry have moving forward but he has proven time and time again to find a good coach that would be a good fit. Funny thing is that I think keeping Horny in the long run would have proven to be a much better move.

Fizdale is not doing a good job by any measurable index. The only positives for the season so far have been RJ and Frank winning the PG job and Fizdale did everything humanly possible to NOT give it Frank so the look for Fizdale is pretty bad right now.

There is no solution waiting in the wings and the team isnt very good anyway. The question is what is the directive and goal in the short/medium/long term?

I think you have to wait it out with Fizdale until he losses the locker room. There is nothing interesting happening on the floor. We are not doing anything system wise that works except he always plays big and we are very good on the boards.

Nobody's value has improved. Maybe Morris. No team in a playoff run is going to look to add Portis or Ellington, although I think Morris does have great value.

So what are we doing?

Fish the directive should be to fire Fizdale and start to get the players to play in a system and prepare them for next year. Something Fizdale failed miserably doing last season. Knox not play defense Trier not playing defense is on him. He had all of last year to instill the habits necessary for good defense. But he was to enamored with offensive side of the ball and isolation basketball which he still does excessively today.
When people were saying he was wasting a valuable year last year to teach that should have been a red flag for everyone. He is not a developmental coach. He was complaining about talent instead of coaching what he had. He was think pie in the sky Durant and Kyrie or any big FA so he threw away a valuable year and let the players do whatever last year. Held only one guy accountable for not shooting and today he might be his best player.
The directive is simple let someone else take over and start teaching and developing with execution of offense and defense and start creating a cohesive team.

ok but we are not a developmental team right now. Morris and Randle are leading the team in FGAs. After that RJ, after that its Portis. So 3/4 of the guys taking the shots are the FA vets.

I assume the plan was to lean on these guys to establish plan then integrate the youth into a system. Obviously that has not worked.

Who is your hire after you chop Fizdale?

Pitino hasn't coached the NBA in 18 years. Fans want JVG, Pitino? Why not Larry Brown? This guy might be free again......
Im sure at least one laughing guy here would vouch for woodson.

If this isn’t a developmental team than we should have fired Fizdale sooner. Losing with vets makes it look worse.

The coach I have in mind is Mark Jackson or David Joerger.

Just look at some of our losses

Kings...they were the worst shooting team in the NBA going into that gamme and barely scoring a 1oo points

Detroit...an under 500 team playing lousy, and no healthy point guards

spurs..losers of 8 straight

Cavs..under 500

sixer...blew a 17 point lead in less than 8 minutes between 3 and 4th qtrs

Hornets...blew a 16 point 3rd qtr lead

We have been severely out coached, we have been severely out played by every point guard (despite having a defensive pg) that plays us

we cant hit FT, like that's an option for players at practice.

Every second Fizdale remains the head coach, is more telling of the F/O..

Fizdales comment last night

“We have to grow our kids,’’ Fizdale said. “That’s the biggest thing. And be patient in free agency.

that was a direct shot at the F/O, who was anything but patient, signing 5 players in 24 hrs

Joerger, had Sacramento playing well before he was let go he had them playing a faster pace and he relies on defense which was what Memphis was built on. His Memphis teams were always competitive and who know he might help Randle similar to the way he worked with ZBo. Kings were playing much better under his coaching than they are now. Basically took a young King’s team and gave them direction towards winning, they should have kept him.

Walton is benefiting from a coach that put in work ethic and pace. Joerger is know for his attention to detail similar mind set and mold of JVG and Tibs. Now if Fizdale has invested that type of time into the young players in the Knicks maybe they would have something to build on. Fizdale never did that. I wouldn’t doubt it that he maybe had dreams of Zion, KD and Kyrie. Total negligence on Fizdales part.

I believe Joerger could turn this team into a winner.

Not now. Tough start to the season but he deserves a shot to make it right. A change now won't do a damn thing other than make it more of a s#!t show.

Are we as bad as our record? Is the coach and his system, or lack of, the cause of the problems?

That is the question that we answer if we fire Fizdale. And if the next coach does poorly, then by all means, fire and turn over the front office.

Firing Fitz right now is a bad look. This roster reflects our record, yes.....A better coach may have squeezed out 1 additional win. Fitz is not good right now, but neither are some of our young players. Fitz is a young coach. Everybody needs time to help and build chemistry. Might as well play the season, into a top pick. Then make a decision in the off season. Give fitz his full season to see if hes worth keeping. Right now, I agree... hes not doing well... but neither are the players or the FO.

A bad look is losing. Change is seen as trying to win.

You have seen the same thing for over a 100 games with like 25+ different players.

The 2 main issues he had in memphis, (ROTATIONS and Getting his team to CLOSE OUT GAMES) still exist.

He lost his last 8 eight games in memphis before being fired..

Fizdale has a lot of problems as a coach but chief among them is his refusal to commit fully to the young core. I have no problem with firing Fiz but unless the new coach commits fully the kids what's the point.

If the Knicks do pull the trigger and fire Fiz a coach that's interesting is Mike Miller. He has had much success in Westchester so he can coach (at least at the G League level). The other important point is that coaching in the G league has given him experience playing and developing young players. So playing and developing the young core with the knicks would not be foreign to him.

The willingness to play and develop young players should be high on the list when choosing the next coach and Miller would seem to fit the bill.

I heard a podcast with Isseman where he said he thought Miller would be the guy chosen if Fiz is let go. He said Miller is well liked by everyone in the front office.
If Fiz is let go and the team continues to play Randle the way he has played on offense then the problem is with the front office. I am still shocked that Fiz played Knox at the 2 against a team that plays small and shoots a ton of threes. It is getting harder to defend him.
I'm tired,I'm tired, I'm so tired right now......Kristaps Porzingis 1/3/18
Do you fire Fizdale?
