In addition to Irving, we know this summer's free-agent class is stacked. We know Durant and Irving have been linked as potential partners with the Knicks. Why not form the same partnership across town with a better supporting cast in place? What about, say, Kawhi Leonard? Jimmy Butler? Klay Thompson? Kemba Walker? We'll talk about this in a bit, but there may even be a way to put together an attractive enough package to get into the Anthony Davis sweepstakes.

Even if you look at this deal independent of Brooklyn eventually hooking a couple big fish, it's still a good trade. Prince is a useful player. He can get a little tunnel-visioned as a scorer, but he's long and athletic, he can defend and he can certainly create offense. Getting off Crabbe's money was the win. Getting a good player on a team-friendly deal with an additional unprotected draft pick is pure gravy. The Nets really nailed this.

And now they become a major player this summer. Again, they were already in the mix, but with this additional space and the culture they've built there, not to mention the team itself, this is a very attractive destination. As opposed to a guy like Irving, or any other big free agent, choosing, say, the Knicks, who have nothing to offer except the allure of New York City and whatever new pieces the can add, the Nets, also in New York, already have something good going.

How come when we trade KP for space and get picks its dependent on if we sign any big FAs, but when the nets send OUT 2 first rounders to move an expiring, it's a great deal regardless as to if they sign any big FA's?! And why does that brain dead writer think they've got an unprotect first?! Why is Kyrie now god with no question marks? Why is there zero critical coverage as whether it's a good idea to get rid of Russell and replace him with Kyrie?

They can choose to sign Kyrie and another, or resign Russell. Not all three. Either or......
Nets not blasted because they made the playoffs. My opinion is they can make some trades on the roster to get some picks back.

Uh oh, means they likely will sign two max cats and must be confident (otherwise why include 2 firsts).

So looks like Kyrie is definitely signing with them. Hope the other one is Tobias Harris and not KD. Should hopefully take them out of the AD stakes though (earliest 1st round pick they could trade would be 2022)

with 46 mill, how will you sign 2 guys maxing out at 32 mill per..

so the rumors to NY are BS but the rumors to the Nets are valid coming from the same outlet...ok

Thank you I was logging in to ask this question how is 46 mill enough for 2 max if so our 70 mill should get 3 max free agents

Also, it took two firsts two move Crabbe with one year left on his deal. What would it take to move Tim with two years left and Lee in this market? The Knicks got off two bad salaries, got two first round picks, and DSJ and DJ. No one in the media has mentioned that the Hawks wanted to move Prince because they were not planning on resigning him after this year.

we gave up a bona fide All star to get rid of THJ and Lee, and those guys are still very useful players. I wish I knew the other deals that were on the table for KP.

I think they did well. KP was having a tough time staying on. The court before he tore his acl. Since the trade he was accused of rape and got busted up in a bar fight. I think KP has a ton of talent but he has to get his body and his head right. No guarantees that that happens.

Not sure why we are comparing Nets crappy deal to our deal.
Perry RECEIVED 2 first round picks AND cap space
Nets only received cap space and SENT 2 first round picks

we have flexibility, they dont
this is the same as that stupid prokhorov deal to trade for aging paul pierce KG without flexibility.

Nixluva is posting triangle screen grabs, even when nobody asks - Fishmike. LOL So are we going to reference that thread like the bible now? "The thread of Wroten Page 14 post 9" - EnySpree

By renouncing D'Angelo and all their FA's, they free up the extra money for two max slots (but would be $2mil short of being able to offer KD his max)

They free up 2 max slots by renouncing D’Angelo. If they don’t renounce him then they only have $46mil.

Why would they trade two firsts this close to free agency unless they know they can sign two max players? Kyrie is signing with him- look at the timings, he was even out in the same club as a bunch of nets players last night, has posted a vid about returning home, and all his people have said he’s signing with the nets

You're the Nets, your PG just had an all-star, breakout season. He's younger, less wear and tear than Irving, a willing passer. Nets can match any offer on Russell. Why would you max out Kyrie, and cut Russell? Doubt that Durant has given the Nets a guarantee at this point.

My guess is that if Irving is a lock for the Nets, they are going to try to run a backcourt of Russell/Irving, with Irving playing off the ball, so it doesnt turn out like it did in Boston, or Houston even.

Have hard time believing Nets would give up on a young All-Star PG who is just starting to show what he can do.

Seriously you could probably sign Russell for about 8-10 million less a year. You could grab another high level starter and a max player. They have a solid core already in place.

If Russel ends up on the market and goes to Utah they could be the one seed in the west unless both Durant and Klay stay in Golden State. Crazy to think the biggest impact free agent could be a guy the nets release.

The Nets can’t trade a pick until 2023. That limits any type of package for AD or Beal.
