How many years does that have taken to occur? Then Mark Jax had to go and the team further evolved. Mad respect for GS and what they have done. The reserves of Livingston and iggy have been huge!!!
Its foolish to replicate what they have done as Curry is on another planet. Him being taken at the 6th pick, then allowed to mature both physically and emotionally has been a true thing of beauty to watch. Before you go off on Walsh for not making every human effort to draft him, and Minny passed on him twice, remember his status his first few years and look in the mirror and be truthful with yourself and know he likely would have been traded as part of the deal for Melo. Curry was not yet MVP curry.
Cav's continued relevance is based on the back of Lebron. Thats one way. GS is another. Celtics are taking a longer path and have retooled yet again. Major injury to star Haywood and they are still good. And a treasure trove of picks in part because they are patient. Took Tatum instead of Fultz. Way too soon to call that one, but they got the guy they wanted. sometimes its the path not well traveled.
Its hard to build a dynasty with a hard cap the way the NBA is situation. It breeds parity. GS did it with picks that turned out better than the positions they were drafted. WAY BETTER.
To give up on Frank is ignorant. Anyone really think Frank would be a break out pick in half a season? Regardless of his triangle label, it was a high conviction pick and as a fan I'd like to see it thru. No certainty, no guarantee.
Our rebuild started not when Phil walked in, but when KP was drafted. Might even say when Melo left and Frank came in.

The Spurs model is the model to emulate. They have won over 50 games for 20/21 years. The year they didn't was the lockout year and they won the championship. Roster, coaching and management continuity has been a huge part of their success. Perry/Mills seem to be trying to follow their model seeking players 25 and under to grow and mature together.
The only Spurs trade I recall recently is Kwahi for George Hill.
Agree. High IQ players who defend. Thats the only requirement. Sometimes that might be tough also but thats the starting point. Anything else is stop gap.

Other than Duncan, the Spurs have never drafted high or made any significant trade for an already established star. They build from within and stay patient. Their team always performs better than their talent indicates, to the point where it is expected that they will be good regardless of what their roster looks like from a talent standpoint. They do this by building chemistry. We can do that same. No major moves are needed right now. When the right piece is available, we will know it. I feel like for the first time in forever we can afford to be patient and build on this core group. Porzingis, Ntilikina, Hardaway, and Kanter have excellent upside. I just think if the Spurs had Porzingis and Ntilikina, there would be no question people would be taking about them as one of the next great young teams because they know what the Spurs can do with that sort of talent. Our starting 5 of Porzingis, Kanter, Lee, Hardaway, and Ntilikina i would like to keep in place next year while we build up the bench. We can add talent there and maybe find our long-term Lee replacement along the way. But i think this group can be very good if given the time to grow together.

I could not agree more. Start the same 4 + Frank next year. Hopefully elevate Dotson and Willy in the rotation. Hopefully add another prospect or two as well in the draft. This is what real building looks like.

Wow, you just showed some major hate toward Lamarcus Aldridge and Pau Gasol. but I see you're point. I don't agree with you on Kanter's upside, but I agree that we need to maintain some roster consistency. I don't see Lee, Oquinn and possibly Oquinn being here next year, but THJ, Ntilikina, KP and Kanter is a nice collection of NBA talent to work on. Our cap situation hurts us this year, so drafting will be as important as ever.

Great Post. I agree we dont need to make any major moves, as in expensive players. I do believe strongly that as admirably as Jack has been playing. Coming back from two surgeries, I do believe we need an upgrade next season at PG, at the latest.

Frank might be ready to take charge, he may not. Dont want to go into next season without a plan B. A good plan B. The more real competition Frank has for the starting job the better. Maybe that player will be a first round draft pick, ours or someone else's right now. Whatever ups the talent pool in the backcourt. Im not sure if Baker will ever grow a pair and start looking to score. We need a real threat to get to the rim.

Read the highlighted carefully. Spurs did not make a major trade to acquire Aldridge or Gasol. They added them via free agency as I described "when the right piece is available, we will know it." This is what the Spurs did. They did not make a major acquisition for the sake of adding these players for their talent. They did so when they felt they were at a place where it was a necessary move to increase championship odds, and these players could help them accomplish that.

I agree, major talent in the backcourt is needed. Will Barton (free agent) or Clarkson (trade option) are options for 6th man playmakers. I also want to draft a PG in the draft, either in the 1st or 2nd round, to add a long-term backup. I'll keep Jack on the roster another year, but i don't expect much. Baker is not a rotation player. He simply doesn't bring enough to the table on either end. I like him on the roster as a 5th guard maybe, but not a rotation player. Dotson has some role player upside too, but it's clear we need a playmaking 6th man who can provide a change of pace to Ntilikina and make the second unit offense flow.

Gotcha, just bustin' some chops lol I agree with this strategy. We're still a few moves from implementing it. I like the Celtics as a better example till we reach that point, but patience is key whatever route we go. I just don't want to wake up one day and hear we traded for George Hill or signed IT.

Lol sorry i should have known that. Yes, Boston is a nice model to build as well at this point. And yeah, we don't need to add a Hill or IT in the back end of their careers at this point. If anything, going after more guys like Hardaway is the best option. Hardaway appears to have taken a huge step this year, and has a long career ahead of him. We need to add talent in that 23-25 age range. Guys who still have their best years ahead of them, but are ready to contribute in a major way.

Lakers are still a mess. Clarkson looks good from a far but isn't timmy a better option?
We miss our injured 2.

Plan A was Sessions, with Frank and Jack. Instead Jack became the lead and Frank still off the bench. If a fan can't see Frank's progress and has no imagination of upside then not much can be done. Plan be is working just fine.

We don't know Perry's plans. we can only guess.

I think Hardaway is better than Clarkson but we need a 6th man like Clarkson. Someone who can make plays for the 2nd unit and pick up some slack during times like right now where injuries are an issue. A playmaking backup guard is probably the biggest need at this minute.

We need a bonafide superstar at the 3.
Long run is CLee needs to be on the second unit when Timmy comes back.
Rather start McDermott or Thomas.
But Timmy is not back.

While Lee certainly isn't the long-term 3 given his age, i disagree about moving him to the bench. Lee is doing exactly what he should be in the starting lineup. He is one of the best 3 and D players in the league. Putting him on the bench likely means increasing his usage which isn't the type of player he is. We need a playmaker coming off the bench. Lee fills a huge need sharing the floor with Porzingis, Kanter, and Hardaway as a floor spacer and defensive player.

Even comparing george Hill and I Thomas is ludicrous????? I Thomas carried a team to the ECF no questions asked. The guy is 28 going on 29. There is 0 barrier to entry other than cash. I really think wed have a great chance at him and we can put enough around him to be very very successful right away.
How many KNicks ever score 53 points in a rd 2 playoff game--one Bernard King. I Thomas is a str--only a star comes back and plasy like he is---hes impossible to guard tough and incredibly smart. Anything you want out of an athlete--he is.

Its very hard being a Knick Met Jet fan--they almost always make the stupid move. Well we do have some depth--we have some guys who can score rebound defend--but the team needs an offensive identity and a great playmaker--its a match made! Isiiah can be a star here!

Sure but the last time that happened was 21 years ago. 31 years ago for the Robinson pick.

Briggs never used to be this bad. He says trade porzingis for someone new all the time. Last summer it was josh Jackson. Just can't take this stuff seriously.

Yeah its starting to get silly now. Literally every week Briggs have a new favorite player that will lead us to glory

Well he's been up on IT for a while, but looking in the future there are always a lot of players that one can envision helping a team. Even if you don't agree I think some of the prospects are interesting.

We can improve with other players--but Im convinced this organization needs an engine type PG--one that dictates style and pace of play. Frank IS NOT that.

If I had pick 9 and I found a team picking 1-2-3 would take KP for Young--done deal. Ill draft a big or trade my 9 down.

A lot of guys look like they'll be amazing pre draft. A lot of them don't meet expectations. You can't trade a proven commodity like KP for a singular prospect.

Very well stated. Klay Thompson too was a later grab. That’s about where we will be picking and we should be so lucky.

I’m okay with continuity and it makes sense. Yet we will need a stud at the 3. The perrenial all star. Likewise if we have IT on the roster, he will get used on matchups in the playoffs as will Kanter.
That’s a big issue that to me is adequate reason not to do it
Only thing that will turn this around in the next 2-3 years
