You are introducing one concept that has nothing to do with another.

Talent scarcity in the NBA draft pool means you take whatever high upside talent irregardless of positional value at the top of the draft. It means if you have an All Star center and the best pick is a possible franchise center hopeful when you select, you take the pivot and figure it all out later.

Positional value only factors in a "wash" situation. If you rate two players equally ( which rarely happens) at the same slot, then you choose positional value and consider things like age, health, character, etc.

Team building in the NBA has no real blueprint. The limited talent acquisition structure makes that impossible. Daryl Morey did not have some grand plan to get Chris Paul. He just stockpiled and stayed flexible and took what the market would give him. That's it.

No one wants a lot of these Knicks players in proposed trades. I recognize guys want to talk it out, but these are all guys the Knicks have tried to trade for a very long time now. They are still Knicks for a reason.

The deal that jumps out at me is Noah for Batuum. But Batuum's deal goes a year longer and the last year is 27 mil I believe. I think if the Knicks wanted that deal they could have it and they probably could get more back.

There is a Post article about the Knicks getting more calls for Willy than any other player on the roster. Thats awesome. If there was a shot at upgrading the starting PG position this season, this is it. If it was a first round pick instead, hard to argue with that call. If Willy played D, it wouldn't be such an easy decision IMO.

Willy is only 23.
KP 22.
Frank 19.
That's your young core.

Especially now that the veterans aren't delivering the wins and we are falling out of the playoffs makes sense to trade the veterans for picks, establish a top 10 lottery position and get Willy/KP/Frank minutes out there.

The dumbest thing to do would be to try and win a ring with this team. They don't have the vets or firepower. You trade Willy if you are going to get into the top 4 of the East. In our case it will be far from a lock we make the playoffs even if we traded Willy.

This is where I trusted Phil. Hope Mills is patient and sees the bigger picture. The team in two years needs to feature KP in his prime as a superstar physically ready to carry, Frank as a starting two way floor general, Willy as an elite 6th man all 25 and younger. Meanwhile in those two years having added young talent at 3 and 2 to complement that group. Knicks should be thinking about 2019-20 season. Even if THj keeps his play up, that's a group that could be ready in that season to make some sort of real run.

The Kyle OQuinns, CLees, Thomas even Beasley all gone 2 years from now. So the franchise has to be smart as think longterm. It's one thing if we were 20-14 and a fifth seed. We are 10 and struggling. We need to think longterm and Willy fits. Cheap contract and a player that may improve with time.

I keep saying this but biggest mistake we could make is to trade Willy and pay big money to Kanter and OQuinn. For all we know in a year or two KP may be our main 5. League is fast now. I still see KP in his prime getting at least 20 min a game at the 5.

The article mentions that Mills is especially attached to Willy because he scouted him and pushed for the organization to draft him. I would trust Mills here more than Phil. Phil did not do well with trades and his approach was too pragmatic. The Knicks have 5/6 centers if you count Kornett and think KP should get minutes there.
One thing not mentioned is Willy's desire to play. There was an article a while back on Willy where it appeared that he might prefer playing time to being a Knick.

Willy has played professionally for a while now, here and abroad. Dont want a post player on the Knicks who is that much of a liability on defense. Bears repeating that Willy said he was going to work on his D over last summer, and it actually looked worse this season. He is getting outworked for minutes.

Like David Lee, ambidextrous, good post player, jazzhands defense. Wanted him gone too. Willy's D would have to take a big leap this season not to want to see him moved to address the PG situation. Either now, or next season. It cant just be Frank and 3rd stringers, now matter how hard they play.

He's so young, and his skill set is similar to Kanters which works well with KP. I got to agree unless there is a move that works the knicks into a guaranteed top 10 pick (aka cleveland) I wouldn't move him.

I don't think they do that trade honestly. Batum is overpaid but might be a viable player through that contract even if to a minor degree. Noah is done and while cheaper its still 3 years away.

Dwight Howard, Cody Zeller, Frank the Tank... what does trading for Noah get them?

Read "Should Charlotte rebuild" charlotte one idea was trade Kemba and Marvin Williams for Frank, our no.1 this year and Noah. Not a "Rumor" it was the writer throwing out an idea.
While its an upgrade with Kemba being established as he is, it takes out the unknown upside of the very young Frank and the potential of our first round pick.
Some fans like the certainty of an established player but I like the upside of an uncertain future despite its uncertain result. We've seen this movie before. I'd like to see one I don't know the ending to!

Glad the front office is committed to 25 and under guys. The only over 25 guys added by the front office are the two point guard mentors for Frank.

I hope we stick to this. Im all for moving KOQ and play Willy thru the rough patches. If Knicks believe in Willy's potential then they will find a way.
I like KOQ, but he is not the future. Noah is the big question mark. Enes wants to die a knick. have to like that but when the euphoria of his "OAK LIKE" enthusiasm wains his true value starts to emerge. I don't know if we keep him and if we do at what price.

I'd trade Kanter who will command a high salary. Re-sign O'Quinn for 3/24 and start Willy.

Trade Lee to a contender if we fall out of the race for a mid first and play Dotson.

Call up Burke and release Sessions.

Batuum's contract is for an extra year. His salary increases each year of his deal. His final year is for 27 million. It would save them around 40 mil before luxury tax is calculated. Batuum has a horrible contract.

So you are suggesting that Charlotte punches themselves in the nuts to save themselves from themselves in the last year of Batum's contract?

Not sure where you are grabbing the luxury and salary numbers from but they don't seem real or what Charlotte would want

This would free up time for likes of Dotson/Baker and Willy H.

Harkless has been mostly out of the rotation of late ....benched completely for a few games and limited minutes in man6 others...same for Vonley. Blazers also have E-Turner, A-Aminu plus Connaughton was starting at the 3 ahead of Harkless.

Maybe they wouldn’t be interested but I don’t think Harkless is untouchable by any means.

getting players under 25 and hoping they turn into something is not always a smart move..

It's like being afraid to trade Tim Thomas or KVH while when they were 23 because they had loads of potential. To this day, I will never understand what posses I t to make such a lateral trade.

I'd be okay with trading Courtney Lee and O'quinn before the deadline. Good veteran presence is important to develop teams so you can't think getting all young kids is a good idea. The only thing that worries me about trading O'Quinn is that his passing gets us about 6-8 points every game. Since we have no semblance of any offensive plays or offensive identity otherwise, I can't imagine how poor our offensive sets would look without him.

Is this a rumored deal?

At 15-23 it's possible they would be willing to part with Kemba of we ate Batum.

Lee and Noah for Kemba and Batum could be possible.
