Cmon it's bad enough his list only had 2 teams on it, now your narrowing it down to one forcing the knicks to take bad contacts and low draft picks. If im mills 2 can play this game, you wanna exercise your NTC, were are going to exercise our right not to even trade you..take that

Again, who gave him that leverage? He could say he's rejecting all trades. Fans seem to resent players having any say so over their career. Guess they wish we were in 1960s where players were just property and had no input on happened in their career.

You can't blame players for exercising their rights.

The guy who gave him that contract was Jackson who believed (and said so at the time) that he thought Melo would become one of the greats under his guidance AND if the time ever came to parts ways, he [Jackson] felt comfortable, based on contract negotiations, that he and Melo could work out a better situation.

It should be clear who was deceiving who by now but don't let me stop you - carry on.

Melo was deceptive. Phil was stupid.

Phil was overly confident in his own ability to mold Carmelo. Carmelo, as he had done time and time again, was disingenuous - he wasn't signing to play basketball, he was signing to manage his paycheck.

The bolded is funny. Phil did not want the Knick job and didn't agree to it until the money became too much to turn down. His entire tenure it was speculated that he was just getting a money grab. After he signed the extension he upped the dysfunction for a month and a half and then went back to Montana with 24 mil.
Phil falling asleep during pre-draft workouts is a bigger indication of him just being in it to manage his paycheck than anything Melo ever did.

No but if he wears a Knick uniform next year Knick fans should boo him every time he touches the ball

Right on!! When Phil promised Melo he would build around him but instead brought broken down old players, that was truly genuine. And when he could no longer force feed another dinasour, The Triangle, he threw Melo under the bus. Really genuine. However, at least he was finally honest when he said they would like to move on without him in order to go with the young movement. But that is the reason Melo was smart enough to add a NTC. In case their promises, at signing, to build around him was reneged.

And your right, just dont get why anyone cares about making money. I mean... I am sure you work for free.

Exactly. And I'm sure if that poster's current employer decided to ship him to Boone County Kentucky to work he would gladly just go and wouldn't raise an eyebrow.

Please play 48 mins and lose every game with us. We like your style. If you don't get traded, you will turn into a negative guy again. You will destroy everything. We like it. We want it. Next pick will be very great.

Meanwhile, two years later. You can be a free agent, and six years in a row without getting into any playoff game probably will hurt your next contract. But it is okay, we would have two more very good young players already. As a Knicks fan, we are doomed to be a loser. We really want to invite you to join with us, since you don't deserve better.

In before "you can't treat a HOFer like that!", no, I don't want to bench him. I want to see Melo playing every game, every single game. I want him to shot every time, every single time. I want him to earn his every single penny by playing. If he can also dance with dancers at half time, better. I would really enjoy watching every single moment of him.

That's actually not funny at all but a great point. If he stays and plays our rebuilding goes into an overdrive and we get another high pick. I kinda like it !!!

Fair enough, do you also agree the Knicks have every right to not trade him and to ask him to stay home as long as they pay him the money?

I am not sure if that is ethical. It would appear that he was being punished for not waiving the NTC Phil gave him. Also, Melo is vp in the player's association so there is a good chance his union would get involved. I think you could change his role, give him less minutes, make him sixth man etc. The best approach is probably to meet with him, tell him a Houston trade isn't happening, see if he wants to add teams that he would waive his NTCfor, and discuss his role on the team.

All you do is allow Melo to come back and play a 24 to 28 minutes a night role while young players are developed.
What's funny is everyone blamed Phil for Melo going out.
Yet now Phil is gone, and Melo wants out more than ever.
Shows Melo was always full of BS with the I'm committed to NY card.
He was always ok with leaving, he just didn't want to lose the battle to Phil.
Once Phil is gone, Melo is pushing so hard to go.

Allow me to introduce you to the NY Knicks front office/owner. Now, do you still have questions on why he wants out of here? If KP is next, will he be full if BS too?

Melo wasnt going to work with Phil after Phil's press conference. I dont thinkthere was a worse possible approach that could have been taken when he needed Melo to work with him to get Melo to another team. Melo probably gets bought out if Phil wasn't fired. I don't know if Melo wanted out all along. Once Paul went to Houston and LaLa seemed to be on the same page about his leaving the area I think Melo wanted the chance to compete and play with one of his best friends.

What is that when he REFUSED to go back to Laker?

http://nypost.com/2017/06/18/jeanie-buss-gets-emotional-talking-about-phil-jackson-split/

Do you know what he should have done at the time? Opt out the knicks contract, and go back LA to be the prez of Lakers. Jennie Buss was planning a coup and shed needed every single authority from basketball guys because she was totally on the business side. Phil would be the perfect guy she needed. He won 5 champs there and she trusted him with all her heart.

And you know what? he didn't opt out and even broke up with his love at 71 years old! Was he crazy? LA is a super rich team and she is very powerful there. He would not have less money AND power.

Instead he just did the stupid thing. He wanted to finish this. He wanted to help Knicks, and he got fired.

This is totally okay Melo looking for money. It is his right. It is totally ok to fck other women, it is his dick. But don't compare these two guys on loyalty to their team or to their woman. Melo kicked Knicks away the moment he knew Harden and CP3 were waiting him to form another super team. People compare this dude to Phil?

Melo is all smartness. He has always done everything good for him.

Phil Jackson is all stubborn. He was a old new yorker. The future is grim and he probably die but he still goes on.

Whoever wants to defend Melo, REMEMBER one thing.

He doesn't even need or want you to be his fan. He knows he will has a lot of fans in Houston.

There is absolutely nothing unethical about it. Appearances be damned. The media rips us 3 times a day, maybe they'll start ripping us 5 times a day instead. The players Union can't do ****. What are they gonna do? Sure Dolan? Let'em.

It's not about appearances. The guy is your team captain and best player. He also is vp of the players union. If you keep him away from the team with pay because he didn't waive his NTC I don't see how that isn't in violation of his contract. You can negotiate a buyout or waive him if you don't want him around the team. I don't think management thinks that s the best move. Will see. I am sure what you are suggesting will not happen.

fwk00 wrote:The beauty of the situation is that the Knicks hold the NTC with Melo. Melo is under contract until hell freezes over in a year or so.

There is NO compelling reason to trade Melo anywhere unless the return is equal to or better than what the Knicks decide it is.

Compelling Reason #1

He could get injured, and injured badly, while a Knick ( poor conditioning and age aren't going to help here) This means he might miss a decent chunk of next season with a bad injury and OPTS IN. Knicks can't trade him, and get nothing

Compelling Reason #2

Clearly Zinger is thinking about leaving the first chance he gets. Melo holding the ball and ball stopping, either this year or this year plus next, is going to not allow Zinger to be the focal point of the offense. Ntilikina's agent is Leon Rose, same as Melo's. If Melo passes the ball, it's going to be to FrankN, and that's it. Zinger is going to get frozen out. Not really a great way to encourage Zinger to stay on the team when he has the first chance to walk.

Compelling Reason #3

Every moment Melo is here is a ROSTER SPOT and MINUTES that could be used to see what one of these younger players can do to help the Knicks for the long term. Of those minutes can be used to give some shine to a veteran to try to pump up their trade value at the deadline.

Compelling Reason #4

This saga, if it burns into the season, becomes a constant media distraction while Melo attacks the Knicks in the press to try to force a lockout, while poisoning the young players in the locker room.

Compelling Reason #5

The longer you wait, the older he gets. The older he gets, the more that becomes a negative mitigating factor in any trade.

Compelling Reason #6

Since he can opt out next year, he's effectively a potential "rental" player. Renting him for an entire season plus the preseason to allow the player to better integrate on a team is different from an inseason trade where the value will take a hit

Knicks have no leverage here. I could literally go on all day and list things that make Melo on this Knicks roster a horrible thing to happen when the team enters it's first game of the season.

Unless you trade/release everyone from last years team I think you are going to have to expect a distrust of Jeff and management. I think that has a chance of being fixed but I don't think it just goes away with Melo being gone. Also, I don't know what Rambis is still doing on the bench. Is there another assistant coach in the nba that the players on the team reportedly hate? I know players hate head coaches sometimes but I can't think of a situation where it was known that players hated an assistant coach.

This is some Team Melo BS Propaganda!!! You don't know that the TEAM had issues with Jeff. You don't know that the TEAM had issues with Rambis. IMO this stuff smells of Team Melo trying to tarnish things going thru the Media. Stop repeating this TRASH.

Unless you trade/release everyone from last years team I think you are going to have to expect a distrust of Jeff and management. I think that has a chance of being fixed but I don't think it just goes away with Melo being gone. Also, I don't know what Rambis is still doing on the bench.
