We got Rose (traded Grant) to appease Melo and give Melo a chance at a ring.
Around the 20 game mark last season, Melo said this was one of the most talented teams he ever had in the NBA.

It didn't work out, but talent wise hard to argue against what we had.

We had 3 elite scorers/skill players in one lineup.

Rose as a driver.
Melo as a wing iso player.
KP as a unicorn.

The chemistry just sucked.
No leadership from the vets or coaching.
Poor defensive culture.

If say that tea had formed a defensive culture, had the right coaching and leadership from all fronts, I think they would be still together today. That talent is no joke. A great driving guard. A great scoring guard. A unicorn. Get two elite defensive role players around them who can shoot some 3 pointers. Rose/Melo show veteran smarts and leadership. That team should be a contender in the East. Never went down that way, but I am ok with the Knicks taking that risk. It was their last shot with Melo, before accepting it was never going to happen with Melo.

Durant, Curry, and Lebron are elite scorers. We had 3 volume scorers.

I think Melo is an elite scorer, Rose is an alite driver and Porzingis is a unique player in the league. If you give me a team with those 3 players, I think I can make the playoffs.

I don't believe the point was to be on the level of the Warriors or Cavs.
But that lineup should have made the playoffs in the weak east.
Come on, we're not holding them to the standards of elite teams.
All we thought was that the team would be better, which early on they were. At Christmas they were what 4th or 5th in the East?

The move was to go from a 32 win team, to a 41-45 win team.
It didn't happen.
It was because Melo, Rose and KP had no chemistry. The coaching had no leadership. And Melo/Rose showed zero leadership as veterans of the team. The only one with any leadership skills on the team was a 21 year old from Latvia. That's not going to get it done.

Failure was on all our fronts. Rose has had success as a player on good teams. He is not a "loser" in my opinion. He knows how to win basketball games. He didn't play that way in New York. Too many things went wrong. Just no leadership from the top players, no consistency from the coaching staff and a team with too many weak defenders.

We didn't bring in no rose to appease MELO and he certainly wouldn't make this team a contender. Grant was suspect from the start, clearly not a triangle fit, and phil was stressing penetration, something we hadn't had in a pg since god knows when. The PG position had to be upgraded.

Want to hear about his possible reasons for wanting a trade. Would take Irving over Love any day of the week.

My guess is that its more about LeBron probably leaving after next season and not wanting to be left holding the bag in Cleveland. If he really wants to be the man, all Kyrie probably has to do is wait a season.

Probably wants to be the man on his own team...would get that in NY and has some help to start already....interesting move.

IRving and Frye for Melo works.

Irving is 25...same age as THJr....fits the plan...also can play SG when Frank is ready to take over.

If nothing else, NY needs to tell Houston to step up their offer!! No doubt this is the best possible scenario for NY.

As I said upthread, Kyrie probably just has to wait a year for Lebron to bolt. I dont doubt he wants to be the man, just not in Cleveland. Perry and Mills would earn a lot of goodwill if they could manage a good deal for Irving. Melo might like Houston's roster better though, without Irving in the mix.

In Cleveland? Why would he want to stay in Cleveland? He wants the stage in a big city, like NYC!!

That is why they started going after Rose. I was wondering why as they are similar players. Rose is not going to a team to be a backup. He still can play.

I dont believe they want to rest their championship hopes on Rose's knees. As a backup to Irving, thats a smart move.

He wants a bigger role and a team to call his
Won't be on a contender

Knicks may have a shot if they trade Melo, Ntilikina and OQuinn.

NO, Frank is not part of the deal. That is NY paying too much again.

Rose to cavs would maybe make them more likely to trade for melo (as they then wouldn't have to move Irving for a guard)
