The Knicks were historically bad. I think Dolan was ok with a Melo trade. I think the buyout, trading KP and resigning Rose was just too much. The Knicks have been at the bottom for roster continuity, front office ratings, and as a destinations toon for players. The thing that is always scary is who is taking over.
Crush you got your wish.
Did you read the full quote? He and I are happy Phil is gone but we haven't gotten anything yet since we don't know who the next president will be.
I'm glad you guys are happy. We now have Mills running the show, Dolan looking for a GM or president (something he has a lot of experience doing at this point), and Melo and KP rewarded for intransigence. Great!!
As I said be careful what you wish for because you just might get it.
I didn't say I was happy with the state of the team. I'm happy the first of many necessary steps was taken (getting rid of a bad president). If the other steps aren't taken, the team is still a disaster. Please don't read any sense of optimism from what I've written. Losing the hopelessness I had with Phil is not the same thing as gaining optimism. We went from -10 to 0 but not into positive territory. It can easily go back to -10, or with a smart hire, could go into positive territory.
What would be a smart hire?
Someone who understands the metrics very well and the game beyond just the stats
Like who?
The Knicks will probably go for a big name like Ujiri. I think he would be a great hire. There is a bit of a trend by teams to hire player agents to run their teams. Both the warriors and lakers did this. Agents know the cba inside out. They also know and have seen all of the players many times because they scout and recruit. Going that route might be smart.
I also heard a name I don't recall on two podcasts I listened to yesterday. The guy was described as young and up and coming.
Based on what? his drafting is very spotty with some clunkers. His FA and trades are similar, e.g., Demarcus Carrol. His biggest success was fleecing the Knicks twice and us being too stupid to fleece him back once (Lowry).
Oh well fortunately Dolan and Mills will figure this out
Not arguing with your assessment, but Ujiri would still be a step up from the current dysfunction. I would hope that Ujiri will be able to appoint his own GM. I prefer Sam Presti, but at least Ujiri has been able to put a product on the floor that fans can cheer for. Thats like a dream right now.
Ujiri and presti would each cost picks
Presti has done great at the top of the draft and meh later. Got too little for harden and nothing for KD. Ny media would have killed Phil for those moves. Guy had 3 mvps (including harden as close enough) and one finals experience!
Sorry I'm not in the anyone but Phil camp. Winning is hard. Holding your top players accountable is suicide in new NBA
I read that Ujiri can walk, in his contract. Im not in that camp either. Don't want another celebrity hire like Isiah or Phil. Would like the Knicks at the very least to hire a seasoned exec with a good rep with other teams, and with a respectable track record of making the playoffs. At least those two fit the bill.
I read that Jerry West was planning to recommend Griffin for the Knicks job. Thats like the kiss of death for me. Last time a former Laker recommended someone for a front office position, we got Isiah.
