Saw the quote and really its bad for everyone. Bad for the Knicks for the reasons you stated, but also bad for KP because it makes him look silly. He blew off the chance to address some of the concerns he had, and statements like that from his brother only make it worse. If KP doesn't want the drama why not put something out there that indicates he is trying to resolve the rift (if there is one) instead of making more of the situation.
I agree that is bad on both sides, but its worse on managements side. Again, rightly or wrongly, the running narrative on the Knicks organization is that of dysfunction. Its one thing when the media says it from the outside, but to have one of your players, from the inside, confirm that there is dysfunction makes it worse. A player who is supposed to be the future face of the organization, no less. This is really bad!
And the solution is what, buckle to the players, let the kooks run the asylum again as Knicks have done for years? Players are paid millions to play the game, not coach, not play armchair GM. They're getting called out for not playing D, not sacrificing for the betterment of the team and getting pissy about it. They should take a long look in the mirror and ask what they're doing to make the situation better
Beautifully stated.
The trouble with the "dysfunction" narrative is that the ONLY people saying this are the NY media who are themselves so dysfunctional that they think its normal to throw the Knicks under the bus without any provocation let alone an idiot kid who thinks he's bigger than the organization because he sells sneakers.
Phil, Mills, Gaines, and the rest of the staff have been collectively professional, collectively discreet, and profoundly unified in their goals. This extends to Dolan himself. What dysfunction are the media claiming?
As for the accusation that the Knicks mistreat players - in what way? Would the press and players prefer lies? Should Phil have said, "Yeah, we want to win with Melo who is still an underrated superstar in this league?" when asked about the coming season and then proceeded to try trading him? How would that play in Queens? And what credibility would the organization have?
Oh, or maybe Phil should have taken a list of demands from Porzingis or his brother as to how to run the team to keep them happy. *NOW* are you happy?" - "No, Porgy wants to draft a buddy from southeastern Latvia at #8... OKAY!"
Porzingis is exposing himself as a self-centered asshat and isn't getting the advice to STFU. Too bad for him. In the NY minute it takes when he injures himself enough to be a doorstop, he will meet a dark reality about sports highs and lows. He's well on his way down that track.
