To add on, after listening to kobe and Jordan over the last few wks about their rocky relationship with phil, but in the end it was all mind games. phil is not releasing him, it would be the dumbest move in NBA history, nobody waives a player with 55 million on the books.

Phil is not building a 35 win team this summer, and phil already knows KP isn't close to being ready for a bigger role at the expense of winning, plus he is clearly not that durable.

Melo miss just 2 or 3 games due to injury this season , that's more than any of the top 20 players in the NBA

I mean, how can you not see the possible outcome where Phil fails to trade Melo? Not unrealistic given the fact that Melo's value is at an all time low, his contract is hard to match up, he has a NTC and a trade kicker?

And he's stated just about every time that he wants to stay.

Would it be distracting and dysfunctional if he stayed? Yes. More so than our prior years of dysfunction? Probably not.

The cap is only going up about $9M - to $103M.

People that think he's going to ride it out or play Phil tough no nothing about Melo and simply have no paid attention to his career. Melo above all else wants to be wanted. Doc Rivers said point blank the Clippers would trade for him and his exact quote was "all those trades mentioned in the papers.. we would have done those trades."

So no.. he may say he wants to stay but never says he is.

Melo will give the Knicks a list of teams.. probably a small list, like Lakers, Clippers, Celtics and Cavs. Knicks will call those teams find the best offer and pull the trigger. This should not be hard to envision.

We gave up a ton to get him, we got three years of his 5 year deal, and ANYTHING IS BETTER THAN NOTHING!
The last three years have been epic disappointment. We only had one pick in three so it was a decent concept to keep him and try to be decent.
Did Melo comply during his negotiation and say he trusted phil, and wanted in on the triangle? I thought he did. I thought he might have even tried.
Melo didn't work, some of phils things did not work, Kerr did not sign here, Fish was not ready to be a head coach in all aspects.....Things have not gone as expected.

YOU dont see because you cant envision anything positive happening for the Knicks. Melo will most certainly be gone, and he has said point blank when not wanted he will move on.

I can envision something good happening, but what in the last 15+ years of being a Knick fan can you point to that would support a positive outcome?

Look, I do believe this squad with parts added can play competitive (not winning) fun ball. We saw flashes of it this year. But I have a hard time saying that Melo will get traded with 100% certainty.

We are truly a damaged group and there is nothing easy about being a knick fan.
Phil can dump Melo which puts us on part with letting him walk three years ago. Question is defining what is a good deal for him. I suppose starting from zero and working down.
Is there any negative? He stays and disrupts? No evidence he is that guy. I've lost hope he will adapt. Its just time to move on. I trusted Melo and trusted Phil three years ago when he signed back on.

Phil never ever said he didn't want melo here, the MEDIA took the "MELO WOULD BE BETTER PLAYING SOMEWHERE ELSE" to new levels, those headlines got posted on every media sports headlines. BUT he also said this base on his age, his skills, and his window and the direction of the knicks..you could easily conclude that he just stated that as melo's best INTEREST.

He also said..IM NOT GOING TO DUMP HIM with a trade, or waive him, THATS NOT EVEN A OPTION..
