If Phil had patience he wouldn’t have gone for NOW PLAYERS. For the 100000000000 times, Phil DID NOT intended to rebuild, he just did a crappy job building a right now team. The Knicks are loosing games because they are a bad team not because of this great rebuilding plan.

Phil didn't have the luxury of 1st rd picks every year. He had to try and use Free Agency to put a team together. Now he doesn't have to rely on that alone. He said from day one that he wanted a future component to the team and he's been gradually adding youth and this summer he's gonna add even more young talent. It's not an accident that we have 3 picks!!!

KnicksFE is dead wrong and your correct Nix. Phil has not been great in his moves here but if you look at one thing its a consistent effort to get young, draft and develop.

He didn't have a first rounder because he didn't have the skills / abilities to acquire one. He gave the players we had for nothing and the only pick he acquired Jerian Grant was traded for Rose who we may not even keep. Success leaves clues, there is a reason why usually the same teams make the playoff every year, because they have the right personnel making mostly right decisions.

The only thing Phil has been consistent is in getting D League Type players and semi develop them for other teams. Aside from KP and Hernangomez, how many of the so call young players on the Knicks are truly core players going forward? You want to get first rounders? You may want to ask D. Ainge or Hinkies how they do it.

Obviously there's more to it than just being in the Lottery. You still have to have a plan and vision for team building using all the options including Free Agency and Trades but you need to use the draft to build a core.

You don’t really need draft picks to build a core, you need good management with a clear vision and a system in place finding the right players that maximize and fit that system. Boston Celtics is a perfect example of good management, while their championship aspirations depend on the players they get from the Brooklyn Draft Picks, they have already build a good core by making mostly sound decisions in free agency and good trades. Dolan should be paying D. Ainge the 12 million to come and work for the Knicks.

Well it took a while for Ainge to build that up! Who's to say Phil won't get there as well? We have some good pieces but need a few more to make a real improvement. If you went back in time to before the Celtics were at this level they probably didn't look like they were headed towards being this good. We have to remember our current build has only been 3 yrs of the process starting with the roster year down. We'd be much further along if we had picks every one of those years.

They traded for Garnett and won a ring, when that got old, they made trades with the nets, and hardly missed a beat.We have a couple of good players, and baker, chase, and holiday, can all walk this off season. Which still leaves us with mostly vet players and KUZ who's 27.

When Phil took over we had a stagnant roster which just traded a first round draft pick for Bargnani. Prior to that stupid decisions were made to amnesty Billups and keep Amare's crippling contract on the books. We had no available cap space until 1.5 seasons later and only 1 first round pick. To go with a team that only had 2 rookie scale contracts on it in Shumpert and Hardaway jr. We are in the boat we are in due to the years and years of bad decisions leading up to this point.

True if Phil was absolutely flawless then we may have a couple more assets today then we have. But at the end of the day we got finally got out of our massive dept and made it to the point were we have all our picks going forward and cap flexibility. The fact that Phil did not trade any future picks in order to try and land win now players overrides his failures to acquire multiple first round picks over these past 3 years.

Now we have to find a taker for KOQ to get a second first rounder in this draft to go along with our 2 2nd rounders. Maybe trade off a 2nd rounder for one next year to see if we can get one in a higher range. See on if we can move Melo to the Clippers for Rivers & Crawford and 2020 first, 2021 right to swap, 2022 first. Or something like that.
