He's not...... but unfortunately Melo has limited what the Knicks can get for him. Rivers as part of a package isn't horrible because of his youth, and it appears he is trending upwards with his recent playtime. Jamal as part of that package based both on his age, recent play, and his time here prior is horrible.
is melo really that much of a huge problem for the knicks or is that once again point guard play is not conducive to ball movement ; give up a guy who can still get 30 on any given night for a guy who may be able to get 20 once in a while just cause. the problem is not melo, iso ball and all; have a pg that can get ppl the ball instead of putting his head down and going to the basket with nice speed and supreme tunnel vision and you will see a change get rid of melo and keep rose and itll get worse cause if u think rose is playing for a contract now imagine when when he has seems ti think he has cause he is the very last superstar n the team.
I agree. Things would change with a true playmaking PG. If Melo is the only iso player on the team, it's not a bad thing at all. I would rather get rid of Rose, but i think both are as good as gone.
I think Phil and his team have made up their minds about the direction of this team and really trying to get more out of this RICH DRAFT. When you have a 21 and 22 year old set of bigs like KP and Willy the only smart thing is to fully rebuild. They gave it one more shot with Melo but I think they see the writing on the wall. If they can get a deal this could set up a long term future for the franchise. They simply MUST take every opportunity to see if they can get something done. I don't like seeing the team lose but there's a purpose to rebuilding and this type of big trade and is a path to rebuild the right way.
No big star players are gonna sign with the Knicks in free agency especially after watching how bad this team is this year and they actually have more than enough talent on this team to be winning so our only real choice is to rebuild. The question is do we trade whatever vets we can now and start the rebuild now or go another two years of being a mediocre team and start the rebuild in 2019 when Melo comes off the books? Either way we need to rebuild around KP and some of the other young guys we have. If we rebuild now and trade guys like Melo and Rose then we can actually get some assets to help the rebuild but we won't get anything for Rose after this year cause he's a free agent and if you think Melo isn't worth much now then what do you think he'll be worth next year or the year after?
I'd actually love to see what this team minus Rose and plus a true PG like R.Rubio could do but i think Phil has already made up his mind on trading Melo so if he finds the right team that Melo will actually waive his NTC for then we might as well trade every Veteran player we can and do the rebuild now. I see no reason to trade Melo if Rose isn't getting traded right behind him.
Honestly I think they are going to try and do a fire sale of Lee, Jennings, and KOQ to see if they can get more picks this year. It explains the rumor of why Phil is being so aggressive to move Melo. He needs to do that deal first before he can move the others.
We have our own pick we just need to get younger and maybe have some money to try and steal a RFA. For example while both KCP and/or Porter would be had to steal you never know their teams might blink at paying them 25 mil a year. For the Knicks though a move like that wouldn't be so bad because they need to reach the salary floor anyway. While I agree I doubt a legit star comes here (and history shows we always pay too much when they do). We might as well try and get up & coming stars. Porter and/or KCP are long shots but you never know teams do blink every year. I rather have a chance at them than being stuck in Mediocrity as a treadmill team.
KP gives Phil an option he didn't even have before he signed the NTC with Melo. A player he could legitimately build a team around that has time to develop into a championship caliber team.
