Bottom line.... Phil knows what he's doing. Attention needs to be placed on how we can build going forward. Melo is at the end of his career. We should not be trying to build around him anymore. We could stand pat and do nothing and still be alright. We want to maximize our assets and prepare for the draft and the off season. That's what this is about.

Wojo is the guy who made the report yesterday about the Clippers and Celtics supposedly being involved - or at least the Knicks contacted them. But Wojo made that report, so you have to think it's legit.

Stein saying the Knicks and Clips are looking for a third team to make the deal work.

And I'd also like to see Melo get a real chance in the playoffs - a team with Blake, CP3, DeAndre, and Melo? That's pretty damn good.

I'm not sure it's a good move and I don't like how Phil has handled this at all. He's made it public and messy when it didn't have to be. It feels like Phil is actively trying to sabotage the team - he's come out and said stuff about Melo in December, the Rosen column a few weeks ago, and then the trade rumors leaked...

Yeah, I'm not sure. Melo actually seemed actively upset in the post game interviews tonight. I think Phil is finally in his head.

If the trade is good for Melo, I hope it can be good.

I'm really not thrilled with the way Phil has embarrassed Melo. It's not gonna be good for us attracting FA in the future.

The only upside is the 2017 draft is deep as heck. I think it might be best for the Knicks to just reset, but I wish they would have done better by Melo. He's been a good soldier for the franchise for years through a lot of BS.

He deserves to go out better than this. And he's very well liked around the league. This won't be forgotten by other players.

Maybe p'ing him off was the only way Phil could get Melo to agree to it. I'd hate to see Melo waste the rest of his career (does he realise he only has maybe 3 or 4 more shots at the playoffs as a meaningful contributor and he's on course to miss this years?) on a rebuilding project. I don't like the trade but I can live with it if we find a third team to get rid of Crawford and get a first for Redick. Of course after years telling us Melo has no value and is untradeable and is over-rated, as soon as he's with another team the media will do their usual about turn and start saying he's great and what a bargain the clips got and how stupid we were for not getting more.

The best they can hope for is some kind of asset that makes the trade palatable to try to ease the minds of the NY fanbase ( other non NY GMs and teams are going to recognize this, NY won't trade if it will get it's front office totally roasted more than it will be already) But nothing barely more than some kind of consolation over a salary dump/dead roster filler/bad contract platter of "Meh"

The Knicks are not getting Kevin Love. They are not getting Blake Griffin. They are not getting Jae Crowder.

They are getting roster churn, maybe some contract relief for the future, mixed in with a bad contract, and likely some super protected picks.

I said it years ago, the BEST time to trade Melo was when Lin was here. I then said trade him before he hits FA and this was before the NTC contract. I kept saying trade him over the years. And now its pennies to the dollar. The Knicks would have gotten more if they simply moved on from him earlier and accepted he could not help them win period. He just doesn't make his team mates better and he doesn't play real team basketball and he has not truly developed his game at all.

exactly, why trade him for bad contracts and a might be good end of bench players? trade rose and lee and oquinn and jennings get draft picks late and second round picks. think atl wouldnt want rose for like shebalosfa and their second round draft pick? lee and or jennings cant get us late or second round picks in such a deep draft with clarence " pick a winner" gaines at the helm we could get some nice finds.

But the Celtics aren't involved and supposedly told the Knicks they have no interest in Melo. There's no telling who knows what with these writers but i guarantee you not one of them know everything and only know what the Knicks want them to know.

Id rather wait till the summer if the Knicks cant do better than getting back players with the same expiration date on their deals.

We cant get top free agents because we've sucked for years, because we were capped out on bad deals, and no draft picks. Doubt top FAs want to come here now, the only way to change that IMO is to show the Knicks are trying to build a real team from the ground up with them as part of the future.

Most players who come to the Knicks probably figure thst they wont stay long with all the roster shuffling. If we could shave a year or two off of Melo's deal, that would give the Knicks some room to maneuver when an opportunity presents itself, like Westbrook (dare to dream).

In the meantime, the Knicks develop the young players and draft picks they will be getting in the next couple of years. Build a team worth coming to for when KP's deal expires. Hopefully by then he will be an All-Star.

Agree, but I doubt we can get that and draft picks? If it comes down to cap space or a unprotected first round pick, I will take the pick and absorb some contracts. Smaller contracts without NTC maybe easier to move even if they aren't great. Then again I honestly doubt anything will happen.
