And regarding Rose revealing what happened, you really think he would care more about his rep than revealing some personal family related situation he may not want to be made public? If that were the case he wouldn't have gone AWOL in the first place. I'm assuming you have a family too, right? You don't understand?

it is... but when someone is so emotionally distraught that all they can do is be with family and are so overwhelmed they can't make a phone call... not to hard to come to a reasonable conclusion.

the Chicago papers are just saying he's coddled and as selfish here as he was there... to me that's much more reasonable than armchair diagnosis

I'm just saying that their explanation is reasonable. While your explanation is certainly possible, it is completely unreasonable. Putting aside the issue that you certainly aren't a doctor, I don't know too many people that fly from the coast to the middle of the country, deal with "family issues"/their mental break, and then come back the next day at 100%. Again, possible, but you're pulling things out of your butt

I am, but so is everyone else too. All I've said is that it is one possible explanation and if it is the case, having Rose or someone from the front office come out and sit in front of the camera and explain it directly to you and whoever else is pouting for a direct answer and more details is not the way it will or has been handled.

The Knick's front office and Rose and team have already made a decision to move on, for better or worse. They've decided a fine was better than suspension.

IF, and i know you are just speculating, but IF he has some mental health issues, then i don't want him on the team. this fanbase deserves some mentally tough players who aren't going to run for the hills when the going gets tough, because unfortunately, with this franchise the going gets tough pretty damn often. can't win with a guy like that. and this is coming from someone who LOVED derrick rose and projected him as a #1 pick long before anyone else did, including briggs.

Interesting... I would have assumed the league would have mechanisms in place to get the mentally ill help and support, and in fact take the issue off the team's plate. Wrong.

But back to our convo, I don't think he's mentally ill. I think he offered a BS explanation. That's my armchair investigative work

100% agree. it was a cop-out because he's in a contract year and doesn't want to give off the perception that he's not a team player. he got benched in the 4th quarter and took it to heart, got upset, decided it was easier to run away from his problem then face it with the rest of his team. that is no teammate i want by my side.

Still totally unacceptable and wrong. I would bet his explanation wasn't BS in terms of being a lie, but BS in terms of not being an acceptable reason for missing a game. Again, based on what we know at this point there's no reason to doubt what he said. Also no way to spin his actions as being reasonable either. But this being a reaction to being benched in the 4th quarter only makes sense to people who were anti-Rose to begin with. And I have no idea how anyone can pass judgement on him not being tough without knowing the details of the circumstances he was dealing with. You don't come back from his injury history and get back to the level he's at now without being physically and mentally tough.

Players (and forum posters) who think they're "tough" can be broken down by family circumstances. These dudes are still people not emotionless video game characters.
