I thought we wanted to get away from that.... but no "that's the way the nba is right now" so we should look to do what hasn't worked for us for 20 years because of a trend in 2016?That's a loser mentality. The good teams don't have overpaid players taking up their cap. Traditionally that's all we've had, from Eddy Curry, Jerome James, Weatherspoon, eiesly, Shandon, Houston...amare. We just can't do that anymore. There's too many basketball players out there to just settle and drown our ability to improve the team because we have so much money invested in mediocre players
I think its a bit deeper than that. Those guys you mentioned were all pretty terrible contracts or players, with the exception of Houston, who was a good player, but indeed ended being grossly overpaid (Knicks shoulda signed CWebb). But this situation isn't like those. For one we already have a few pieces here, so we aren't asking someone to do something they aren't capable of. I would like to see KP and Grant developed and I think being a stable and good team accelerates that. Things are not always linear. If I was starting a team from scratch giving Conley the max is a horrible move. However I think we are a fringe playoff team, and two guys who would really benefit from a floor general like Conley are KP and Grant. Now I am not high on a Conley for 4/$90mm but if it happens I wont be upset. There are a lot of good reasons to do it, and its a move that really moves the needle. Personally I would rather roll the dice with Rondo as he represents the most upside.
