That's the problem though, there aren't any guards worth maxing out (and best will be staying aren't coming here)

Team should wait a year and then Super Max a guard

It's simple. This is the year of the 2-guard. DeRozan, Batum, Fournier, Beal, Bazemore, the list goes on. You must get one of these guys. Use additional cap space on a stopgap PG. Jennings for a 1-year overpay (i.e. Rondo last year), to rebuild his value, or Chalmers, Lin, etc. Just someone to make the position manageable. Then 2017 is the year of the PG. Westbrook, Paul, or Teague.

Fournier is restricted. Derozan is rumoured to stay with the Craptors, but if he bolts then the Lakers are his rumoured destination. Batum wants to stay in Charlotte. The realistic options are Bazemore (who has mainly played SF this season) and Turner and Lance Stephenson, none of whom can shoot (and neither can Derozan or Batum). Do you really want to max out on a SG who can't shoot?

And what about Beal? He's still only 22 and his value might be low due to injuries. Washington is looking to bring in KD, aren't they? Would they also spend for Beal, who's a RFA?

After Derozan, Beal is my other target.

Wizards will re-sign Beal because KD simply isn't going to the Wizards- why would they let Beal walk?

The only possible RFA SGs that the Knicks can try to overpay for are Tyler Johnson and Allen Crabbe. Another RFA SG option could be Harrison Barnes if they feel like he can play the two. The only problem with that is that he has not shown the ability to play with the ball in his hands and create for others.
