Minnesota needs more outside shooting and a better defense.

As others have said - amassing talent is one thing. They need a coach and some luck.

Towns is great. Levine is great. I'm still not sold on Wiggins for some reason.

Is Shabazz Muhammed a free agent this year? He looked good last night.

Lavine is not great! he is athletic though but he is not even good (yet).

Yeah, Towns is the only one of their players that I'd be excited to have. And you can build a one-man team.

As good as Towns is going to be Wiggins will be even better--that is the scary part. Lavine is going to be a high quality third wheel.

They're young and they have potential. Right now they look like the kind of overrated players that people who don't look at the advanced stats love. Then the stat analysts remind them there's a reason the team is at .300.

How about their guys are 20 years old. I think its kind of stupid to use advanced stats on a 20 yo. Just watch the kids--they good!

How many times have their been collections of talented young players that fell apart before?

Bullets with Sheed, Webber, Juwan, Rod Strickland

GSW with Webber, Sprewell, Mullin, Hardaway

Hornets with LJ and Alonzo

TWolves with Marbury, KG, Googs

I mean you can list tons and tons of teams with great young talent.

Acquiring the talent is step one. Getting them to grow together, finding a way to keep them together and build a team around them is a hard step that can take years and most teams can't do. Player development, team management, etc.

That part doesn't just happen by magic. It's a lot of hard work and hard to do.

Okc had durant Westbrook harden ibaka Reggie jackson and a host of good other talent. The pieces need to fit together. Then you need a good coach and system

I'm in the camp that it's more likely this team never gets past first round before they disband. Starting after next years a lot of the good young talent is all going to be asking maxes and they won't have enough to go around. They also need more on the court leadership and smarts

Minnesota has hit on a couple #1's in drafts that actually have some good talent. Getting Wiggins and Towns is a good start for them, and they're at least a decade away from supermax deals and will probably be great players by the time that happens. Rubio and Pekovic are on bad contracts and the team needs more shooting, but they've got a great start. To be competitive you'll have to add some other vets to that mix as well.

OKC had Harden!!!!!! No, its not easy. Think how long they had to suck in Seattle to get those picks!!! OKC got the leftover from Oden. Oden went no 1., Seattle got Durant handed to them at no. 2!!!
Yes, it takes a bit of luck!

The Minnesota Timberwolves have meetings set with the two top targets of the franchise’s basketball operations and coaching search: Tom Thibodeau and Jeff Van Gundy, league sources told The Vertical.

not suprising. Minnesota has so much great young talent and a coach like thibs or jvg could really make a impact

I think they are looking at them as a tandem with JVG being in management and Thibs coaching.

^^^^Maybe it is just for the coaching position. Sounds like Mitchell is out no matter what (and I believe he got endorsements from the players).
http://Thibodeau, the former Chicago Bulls coach, and Van Gundy, the former coach of Houston and New York, have been individually gathering lists of front-office candidates to potentially partner with in Minnesota, sources said.

You know Phil loves hearing this and hopes Thibs gets the job ASAP so he can won't have to hear the talk of him not even giving Thibs a interview......not that Phil gives a damn anyway.

Lavine reminds me a suped up Gerald Wilkins. He really needs to learn how to play defense.

Yeah Lavine and Wiggins have some brutal defensive numbers.

Not always easy to play tough D and do a lot of running around on the offensive end. Perhaps LaVine and Wiggins have decided to spend most of their energy scoring, and not defending.

I guess they might not be the next Jordan/Pippen combo.

I think they need a good defensive coach and they will be fine.

The wolves lack shooters and two-way players. Deing and Towns are two of their best players they need Wiggins and Levine to really step up. If they can't shoot they need to use their athleticism to get to the line.

I don't think JVG would be a good GM- he's very much an old school 'trade young players/picks for veterans'- he also opposed the Oakley for Camby trade. Although, having said that the Twolves challenge is now adding solid veterans tot he roster- it's difficult for them to sign FAs, so maybe they can acquire some by trading future picks.

Next year they get back a solid back up C Pekovic that Russian 3 point shooter back up

They will have 35mm in cap space a top 5 pick and a #45 pick

They made the move to bring in vets Prince Garnett etc.. and while it mightve helped--they weren't the best players--theyve been getting better as is. One year of growth and they have the goods to make great additions. Think about the teams NY vs Minny for just one second---they have more of everything that we have. Every facet they are superior and to add they have 10-12mm more in cap space and a top 5 pick. We would not be compettive with GS they shouldve beat them twice in the last two weeks. The next process for them is going to be 45 wins ad I see that next year--after that if the ship stays strong and everyone is working hard--the sky will be the limit and the catch is they are all 20 years old the top guys--thats always what I wanted 3-4 young guys who are of the same age who can stay together--thats how you win longer term.

Everyone would love that Briggs but being able to do it is another. The only way its possible is if we trade Melo
