Whose "Hat" does Melo wear into the HOF?

As a Nugget whom he spend just over 7 and a half seasons as and went to conf. finals as a member of.

With Knicks, whom he just completed 5 seasons with and one playoff series win but lead league in scoring. He stays and knicks continue with him.

Or, if traded this off season to a contender who he might get to a conf. finals or better but as a complimentary player, not
"His" team. Thats not a knock by the way. Just reality if he is traded to Miami, Cleveland or Clippers. His statistics will likey drop.

Melo can retire tomorrow with stats that get him in the HOF so its not really debatable but the question is what uniform does he go in as?

To answer the question. He should go in as a Nugget. Postseasons every yr since his rookie yr. Higher win %. Helped turn around a franchise that didn't have much to hang there hat since there existence.

He definitely has been a better player in NY than he was in Denver.

Overall yes, but in terms of advanced stats his last 2 Knicks seasons have been below his Denver averages. That's worrisome for our future years with him.

talking overall HOF (team) worthiness. Future not looking pretty but only 3 years left with an expanding cap so one could hope its not a disaster. Right now he is playing the right(er) way but he just does not have the legs to shoot anymore. Lift is a bit shot.

a better question is where he ranks all-time in nba history. espn has him 59th. seems about right although he is ahead of a few players that i think were/are better than him. earl monroe, manu ginobili, macgrady, rodman, bob lanier.

melo may finish his career having only reached the conference finals once.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

Chris Paul may finish his career having never reached the conference finals ever. He's still a great point guard.

Dominique Wilkins didn't make the conference finals once either, at least as a Hawk, if i'm not mistaken. He was 44 all time on espn vote and most people consider him top 50 without question. That is a very comparable player for Melo. He probably finishes top 40-45 all-time.

i put him in the same category as wilkins, aguirre, even gervin. scorers but did not know how to lead or win as main guys. maybe dantley and english are in there too. that's good company but i believe only aguirre has a ring and that was in a 6th man role.

melo has a chance to win a ring but as i have been saying it really should be as a sixth man sort like aguirre was.

I agree about some of the players you compare him to. I think Wilkins and Gervin are closest. I can't agree with guys like aguirre and Dantley (as well as King who many others mention) because Melo's prime has run so much longer than these guys. He's about to turn 32, has been a dominant scorer since age 20, and has hardly slipped. He has also adjusted his game to suggest he will remain a very good player into his mid 30s. Melo's peak was probably similar to a lot of these guys, but he just has done it so much longer. I can't agree with the 6th man thing at this point in his career, but at age 35 or 36 absolutely, that might be the best role for him.
