This is like the Melo trade but reversed since the Nuggets will the one getting fleeced on the starting and rotational players. That is too much to give for 1 player. Too much meaning players on your rotation. Nuggets are basically saying this season is done.

*"Meaningful" players on a bad team that aren't very good.

What was wrong about the Melo trade wasn't the players we gave up. Those guys didn't come close to matching Melo's value. What was wrong about the Melo deal was the fact that it didn't need to be made since Melo was an impending free agent. Those same players should've been dealt instead for CP3 who wanted to come to NYC but had 2 more years on his deal. So, I don't see the parallel between this situation and that.

I know it seems peculiar from the Bulls' end but they end up saving $13 million immediately and open up an additional $21 million in cap space to pursue Mike Conley with in the offseason. And with Mirotic and Portis waiting in the wings, they don't really need Taj Gibson anymore, which is why there are rumors surrounding his imminent departure.

What they do recieve isn't much BUT Calderon is still a decent backup in a pick and roll intensive offense AND he's best friends with Pau Gasol, who they supposedly want to keep beyond free agency.

come on man, teams don't give away decent players to just get cap space without wanting something in return.

You're probably right. The only thing I really got going on my side of the argument is that Reinsdorf is notoriously cheap and even had issues paying the Jordan Bulls. To that end, this deal saves them an enormous amount of money, which would be appealing in that sense.

But from everything coming out about that team, they seem prepped to remove whatever resemblance they had to the Thibs-Bulls and will let Noah walk, have Gibson on the block (since they supposedly favor Bobby Portis for the role) and reportedly are trying to trade Derrick Rose. I just wonder what can we contribute to that'd make them willing to part with the more valuable players they have on the fringes.

But for what it's worth, Gibson seems to fall short of the player he once was an only has a PER of 14.6 to Calderon's 13.0, which made me believe that not much else would be required, especially taking on Derrick Rose at his pricetag.

Knicks get Lance Stephenson, Terry Rozier, James Young, BKN's first round pick, BOS's 2018 first round pick and whatever 2nd round picks that we can get from BOS, plus a $10 million trade exception

Celtics get Blake Griffin

Suns get Jordan Mickey, Cleanthony Early, David Lee (expirer), BOS's 2016 1st round pick and $3 million (NYK)

Interesting trade. I don't know too much about Terry Rozier, James Young and would like to see Marcus Smart instead? Is there a way to sneak Jose going out?

Great assessment of the trade. It was simply too much given that we coulda got him for nothing in FA or should have given up minimal assets with Denver having no leverage in the deal. If we didn't amnesty Billups to get illness we wouldn't have been in such a bad spot following the deal but then we were capped out with no viable solutions in the backcourt and no money to try and fill those gaps. A lotta things wenot wrong following that. Not exactly shocking from Knicks brass.
