He was in town to play Nets. He is asked a question and answered it as per the smart thing to do is create a market and have multiple bidders.

Memph is in decline. Fact is Gasol resigned and Conley was a part of that decision. I don't value him as a max contract but he might be in Memphis as the face of an aging franchise.

Jennings might not be ideal but could be a good fit until. We'll have draft picks someday and can draft for development so its not that critical we hit a home run every time.

Takes a long time to build talent in the NBA.

The thing I found interesting in the article was the supposed "SOURCE" who said that he'd given more consideration to New York and Brooklyn than has been previously reported.

Whether Jennings or another, I'd be more in favor of a more modest contract for a guy who would at least be a stop gap and who might surprise us. My own preference is to priortize on D and leadership, and if he surprises us it's with offense. That would also give us more time to develop Grant. He had a great summer league and i think we were justified in hoping he could make a quick transition to number 1 guard. But it's been rough year for him. It doesn't mean he sucks or is doomed. He needs a re-boot

conley will be 29 at the beginning of next season (birthday is in Oct.). I'm sure he'd be a major upgrade but with a four year deal and the money he'd get we'd be complaining more bitterly about him and his play as a 32-33 year old than perhaps we're currently doing with Jose. Only want him at modest money or a 2 year deal with team options (unlikely)

They might be saying they don't want to pay for Conley and instead think they can get by with cheaper options like chalmers etc as they try to get new talent up front (especially because of Randolph). I wouldn't be at all surprised if they draw a hard line with him -- and maybe they already have and thus the FA talk

Having said that I'm not a big fan. A little too old. Do you want a guy in his prime now, or who is in his prime 2 years from now when KP is a force! Also significant concern that you're buying high and out of desperation. There's not a lot of high level pg on FA this year so you could end up overpaying if you convince yourself you need him. I just don't think he's worth any significant money.

Memphis has said that signing Conley is a priority for them so we'll see on that one.

You ask if we'd want Conley in his prime now or would we rather wait and have a PG in two years when KP is a force but my answer to that is i want Conley in his prime while we still have Melo playing at a all star level and having a legit PG now with Melo will only help KP. A legit Pg is what this team is missing and Conley is a legit PG. I'm curious to watch him play the 2nd half without M.Gasol and see if he changes his game to start scoring more or if he lets another player step up in scoring.

Yeah and that SOURCE could be his agent putting it out there.

True. But that's why you make the pitch.

Last year at this time everyone was convinced LaMarcus Aldridge would never leave Portland.

My wish would be a point guard who is good now, and not in decline in 2 years along with Melo. then we'd be bitching about Melo and the pg and their decline and all the cap space they're consuming, and where are we going to get a pg to grow with KP (maybe from expiring contracts of Melo and Conley??? but only when they expire). That's shortsighted to me.

I forgot to mention Conley is listed at 6'1". Can't see Phil getting excited about that. I wish I had an answer for who exactly would be the right guy for us short term or long term; just not feeling Conley
