Isn't Afflalo supposed to be helping KP when no Melo?

no? but he is a good pocket passer, isn't he?

Yeah i like what he gives us with his shot and post up moves but he disappears when we need him most and doesn't pass or rebound. Gallo is at least rebounding the ball for us when he's in the game. AA takes bad shots to.

Toronto might trade us our# 1 back for affalo

Don't know if sarcasm but i would absolutely give that some thought. I would love to make the playoffs this year but i'd rather build this team for the future to where we're competing every year and we're still a couple of year away from that so if we could get a first rounder for AA i'd take it and add another young piece to our future which is KP.

its not sarcasm unfortunately, its just comical ...

so here is what phil is thinking ....

Well, No one thought THjr would get a 1st either. Also, in a down year, AA was traded for Barton, Claver, Thomas, and a 2016 1st(lottery protected). That was what he was worth in a bad year. The year before that he was traded for Fournier. Teams may value his veteran qualities and scoring when not asked to be a top guy.

I love what DW brings us with his athleticism with his dunks which we haven't had in a while but his defense is brutal and you can add O'Quinn in that part with the brutal defense. Anyway this thread was supposed to be about how Afflalo is not the right piece for us but i got carried away there. We all know that with Melo getting up there in age that he's gonna have small injuries once in a while and i know we have KP to take on a lot of the scoring and defense but he's gonna need help and there isn't one other player on the team now that can help him consistently, not A.Afflalo and not D.Williams. I know we love DW but he's still just a good 6th man and not a starter cause he doesn't play defense and he isn't consistent on offense.

Think Afflalo is more offense player than "D" guy he used to be, however he'd been scoring. Recall this team has NO PG
consistency. Hard to hold that against Afflalo

AGREE.....with a dominant player like Carmelo and soon to be KP, we don't need a SG to carry the scoring load. As a third scorer, Aflalo is just fine. We have DWill who in my opinion should be groomed to play more as a SG, so all we need is to find a starting PG

I wonder a lot if Aaron Craft could be a 10-15 minute defensive stopper at the nba level. He was an amazing, heart and soul player in college, academic all American and all defense in his conference. I think Thad Motta said telling Craft how to ply d would be like telling a rocket scientist how to build a rocket. He won defensive player of the year in the d l last year. He certainly has the character/intelligence qualities Phil looks for. He doesn't ave a great outside shot though. But he could be deladova light type of player. It worked out marvoulsly for Jae Crowder.

meanwhile kp is ranked 11th among starting power forwards (and as a rookie no less!!) and melo is ranked 5th among small forwards.

There's no question the position can be upgraded, just keep in my that there' a lot of options at sg overall.

even though i don't like westbrooks's game i can imagine being an ideal upgrade for the triangle. some here may have already stated as much, but it was a while ago. looking at when westbrook's contract until 2017-18, it's too bad the careers of he and melo don't really overlap. you'd have to hope melo continues to evolve his game as he ages. by then he may well no longer be a starter when westbrook becomes available but that's really okay. complete players-- the kind of player he has shown he can become-- extend their careers with a slower diminishment of effectiveness.

in the meantime, you have to make sure whoever you get is no older than 26 or so, no matter the position.

Wait did i read this right and you said you don't think Melo will be a starter when Westbrook hits free agency which is in two years?? If i did read it right then you sir are crazy.

well i would rather he not be a bench player but there's no way of knowing whether or how much he will have been diminished by age and injury. that said, the more he focusses on facilitating he can evolve in such a way that extends his career while remaining effective. i love the way he is playing this season but will he be the same physically in a couple of years?

by the end of this 2015-16 season he will be just shy of his 32nd birthday. by the end of 2017-2018 carmelo will be 33 years old. and that is an old 33 because melo was a one and done. by then he will have played 14-15 seasons and accumulated 35,000 minutes. all these are a factor.

Melo's game has nothing to do with speed and more to do with his shooting and his banging to get to the basket. I think Melo will still be putting up averages of say 22 points and 7/8 rebounds a game 4 years from now. Melo will be a really good player for the rest of his contract that he's on now and you can throw in another 2 years if you ask me. Now that we have KP he doesn't have the pressure of doing everything on the floor and that will help him a lot in the future. I have no questions about him being a top player for the rest of his contract.

You can't keep changing players when you have your team already set but we're in the middle of a rebuild so we absolutely need to be changing players right now until we have the team that Phil thinks is the team that can contend for a championship and we're not even close to that yet. We have 3 starters in Melo, KP and Rolo and then we have our next two best players with opt outs after this year and here's an article suggesting that DW will be opting out and looking for more money.

When teams are making a playoff run and feel they need another piece they'll make trades where they'll give up more that they would in a off season for a player they feel could help them. AA, DW, Gallo and my boy Lance can really help a playoff team and right around the trade deadline you can get more then that player is really worth if they want that player bad enough.

i was not aware he was inconsistent. i look at his height and length as well as his passing ability. not concerned at all about his three point shooting in the triangle offense. however if he doesn't have a decent post up game that may be an even bigger factor. he is also on a cheaper contract than afflalo.

Afflalo is doing just what should be expected of him. He takes over games for stretches, but ultimately can't be relied on for more than 15 ppg. He will score 20+ from time to time, but not consistently. He might end up being the ideal 6th man for this team long-term though. That veteran presence and ability to create shots for himself off the bench is needed.

So no N.Batum or M.Conley or D.Derozan or K.Durant or no max player at all so we'll be a team with Melo/KP and Rolo and a bunch of bench players again....yay i can't wait. I say trade anyone on this team besides Melo and KP at this trade deadline and keep building to be a playoff team that can actually win in the playoffs in another year or two.

So you did it again. You assumed that the Knicks would automatically resign DWill to a bigger contract at the expense of signing a starter like Batum, Conley, Derozan or KD. That's not how it will go down. Starters first, bench after that, it's that simple.

He will score 20+ from time to time, but not consistently. He might end up being the ideal 6th man for this team long-term though. That veteran presence and ability to create shots for himself off the bench is needed.

If we could sign AA to be our 6th man i'd be all for it but if it's possible to upgrade from him at the starting SG spot without hurting us from signing a max player then that's the direction i'd want to go. I don't want all my AA talk to sound like i hate the guy because i don't but he just doesn't do much for me. If he was good at rebounding or would pass the ball more or play better defense then i'd be good with him but he's really just a scorer and he takes a lot of bad shots and he doesn't step up like he should in the games that Melo missed.

He's supposed to be the veteran stepping up when Melo is out but he doesn't seem to do that. He had 18 points against the Nets and 11 against Memphis last night and i don't even wanna talk about his other stats cause there's not much to see for rebounds, assists or steals. I'm starting to think we should look to get what we can for guys like A.Afflalo, D.Williams, L.Galloaway and K.O'Quinn but not Lance cause he's my guy unless it's an offer we can't refuse. I know everyone wants to make a playoff run and so do i but if we got rid of those contracts we would have the money to add a max guy (Conley, Batum, Derozan) and another good piece in the off season or we could trade one or two of those guys and get us a W.Barton or someone to fill one of the guard spots and fill the other in the off season.

Who can u bring in SG ? at this point ?
without breaking $$$ structure or forging over any more future draft picks.

Think PG (starter, role) is more issue on Knicks than SG Aaron A.,

So what i'm noticing is that you have a reading problem and it's really starting to concern me. I CLEARLY said the words "I'M NOT SO SURE" and i can't figure out what you think those words mean but i know that they mean I'M NOT SO SURE. I really hope you seek help for this especially if you're gonna be talking with others on a message board. Thank you for your time and please....................call Dr Phil.

Wow, you sure you want to go that hard at one of the moderators and co creator of the board?
Isn't Afflalo supposed to be helping KP when no Melo?
