Jose is more of a SG at this stage of his career as is Gallo! Jerian has the talent but not yet the confidence to lead the team. Phil needs to find some help at PG IMO!

I warned you not to expect so much out of him this year you refused to listen. He is a rookie and on top of that, he is playing in an unfriendly system to any newbie let alone a rookie and even worse, a PnR centric pg.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

He still should have tried to zip a pass by Cousins. That pass would be a gamble because of Demarcus Wingspan but I think that would have been the best move.

Then again looking at my Video how do you throw that pass to Zingis while adjusting around Rondo and Gay fouling you? You would have to go up **** the ball back to generate the power needed to get it to KP.

I am not going to fault a guy on that play though. I will fault him for missing bunnies and Fts though. However late in that game he was still passing his tail off before that to Calderon(brick), KP(brick), Afflalo(brick, Brick), and came up short late with his Clank special.

+1, he gave up the ball on 4 of the last 6 possessions and like you said, he set guys up with great looks, and they missed.

kp was at the basket for a layup or a lob pass. there's no reasonable excuse to not get kp6 the ball there.

yes there is an excuse, its called excuse melo at all costs

The Knicks have a good cast, problem is Derek Fisher has no idea how to use it,and how to coach them to be a good team, how to elevate their confidence etc, they were playing way better da first 7 to 10 games, even when they would lose I was digging their fight,....but fishers idea of throwing players in a doghouse for full games has lost many of them and their motivation, now he's looking for them to spark something cause the players he chose to shut them down for are Sucking,.....Fisher has no idea how to use the different players attributes properly,...not to mention, phil put a descent role of role players together around a player who at this point is a Role Player Himself!

Yeah, it is good to keep perspective that Melo's shot clearly was not on but he at least rebounded his ass off and passed the ball a lot.
I don't know why Fisher let Afflalo be the guy on the floor to be the 3pt shooter when he clearly was having an off knight

We say that Melo should be making the T,he should, but this is Fisher's team not his. HE should be making the call for Calderon to shoot the technical.

Rolo was repeatedly allowed to guard Cousins and he did not do a good job. KOQ wasn't outstanding against him but he was certainly trying to hold his own.
Practically all of Rolo's shots came outside of the flow of the option and forced him to score for us. That is a major red flag. Where the hell is the pick and roll and the two man game? All of these options are where we get our best options especially if Jerian Grant is running it.

Where the Hell is KP? Why was he not getting more of the ball within the offense?

Caledron was once AGAIN in the game to close it out and he gets cooked on defense. Fisher is the epitome of insanity. Running the same shizz over and over again while expecting a different outcome. It is upsetting really.

Could Melo have made a slightly better play on that? Probably
But keep in mind, basketball is a TEAM sport. We lose as a TEAM.
Melo did many things to keep us within the game to help us try to win. Many players may not be holding up their end of the bargain, but everything is starting to point towards Fisher due to his incompetence to put out a lineup that can close out games and run our best plays that play right to the effectiveness of our own players IMO

The Future is Bright!

I agree. The photo is misleading. Melo is in the act of shooting in the photo . . . and his shot didn't get to rim in time for KP to do anything with the rebound. Seems unlikely that there was time for a pass and a shot by KP instead. Besides, that would be only 2 points and a tie and the Knicks were looking to win with a 3 . . .

What's even more is looking at the replay, you think there is no way they don't call a foul, until they don't. That was just a bad missed call. Melo knew he was fouled and wanted to appear to be in shooting rhythm in order to guarantee continuation. What a bad missed call. It's just amazing those who dislike Melo take something like this and run with it. Melo should have won the game at the free throw line.

The picture looks clear but the video tells a different story if you put them together. In the video you see KP is behind Cousins as Melo is dribbling and initiate his shot motion. As Melo is in his shooting motion that's when Cousins, like most of the Kings stopped defending, it's when KP uncovers while Melo is at the top of his release. Now, there has been many of times where it's late in the shot clock and we have seen Melo go up for a shot get to the top of his motion and then pass it out. That's what he should've done here. However, I can understand that a player is probably concentrating on the rim in that situation and a 40 ft pass is different than a 10 ft pass. I still would have liked h8m to pass it though.

I agree with what a lot of TPercy says

Melo's shot was epic posterboard material: two guys on him, KP open etc.

And while Melo wasn't 100% consistent, there were times in the game where he seemed to be the only one hustling. I recall a few instances where he was the only guy fighting for an offensive rebound. He rebounded. He passed better than the stat line looks. And he's not 100% of what he was a couple of years ago

You might be wrong here...the real issue is keeping your head up on your dribble and understanding that if there are 3 opponents in your line of sight, somebody on your team has to be open.

There is quite a difference between passing off when you have no shot vs setting up a situation where you make them think you are taking the shot and then passing off as they converge on you.

Aflalo had a better opportunity from the 3- even though Casspi was near him, and KP was under the basket.

Split second thinking-yup, and I understand that Anthony might have been trying to initiate contact and get the foul, but you have to weigh the odds...and do it very quickly. As he is dribbling to set up for his shot, he should have noticed where Gay and Rondo were, and Cousin was also visible

This is probably why you want a guard handling the ball.

In essence, if not by design, Melo was serving as a decoy on this play. Seems like Gay and Rondo made the right moves in converging, but Cousins was completely out of position-he probably should have been down low on KP...maybe throwing some elbows at him.

Anthony seems to be missing a lot of these last second shots, recently. He would have been better off passing to a more open man...I can guarantee you that nobody would have been complaining about him if he had done that.

You are wrong on this...sorry. Freeze frame at the 3 second mark. He was not in his shooting motion and had a clear view how things had shaped up.

The real issue is about intent, and we know that Melo is a scorer, not a facilitator. To be honest, the fact that he had made a number of nice passes with no positive results tells you he can make passes when he is looking to make them. The pass to be made here was not to a guy behind the arc, though- it was to a guy standing underneath the basket, with nobody within 12 ft of him.

KP should have probably had his arms up and waving them...of course he does this a lot and gets overlooked, but he should have made himself even more visible.

Did not see/hear and post-game stuff. Was that last play the only option, or did Anthony have some options?

That video is so telling. WOndering if Melo wants to see this under his new personal accountability standard

He was passing the ball earlier, but that was clearly a case where he needed to trust another teammate and KP was soooo open

Also funny thing is I have the sense if Melo shot an airball KP would have been there to clean it up

Great find WaltLongmire! To all the apologists, Melo had TWO CLEAR OPEN PLAYERS to pass to on this play. 3 is debatable as Jose's guy was a little close but was drifting towards the basket. Forget the other plays in the 4th where Melo passed and his recipients missed. PASSING HERE IS THE RIGHT PLAY! Classic decoy basketball, you draw 2 or more eyes, and find the open man. MJ done it drawing the D then finding Kerr/BJ/Hodges/Paxson or Bill Wennington in his return to MSG double nickel game. If Melo had actual BBall IQ, he'd know Karl would send the hounds his direction. Simple pass and it's a tie or a win.

No one was guarding KP, and Affalo's defender pretty much was staring at Melo the whole play.

Sorry folks ... it does not get more stupid than that?

How could anyone not get sick of this already? How many end game plays run for this bonehead in the last few years that ended up in these horribly stupid shots? Mini-Kobe but not old Kobe, new kobe.

I am so sick of this.

The sad part is that although his shot or legs are done, he played really hard tonight and made some really good unselfish passes but the dude with never get rid of the narcissism and will always be a mental midget.

I always say I hold out hope that phil can turn him into that smart player but no more. Just ain't gonna happen.

Trade this idiot before he turns into a penny stock.

And yes, it was a foul - WHO CARES! Pass the damn ball and stop hoping that the refs will start liking you. They think that your an idiot.

"you're"

If you are still following the team and reading sites like this, there is nothing, short of your own demise, that is going to throw you off this train.

This. He took a tough shot in attempt to be a continuation of what he thought was a foul. Clear to see.

no.

you do NOT try to make the refs have to make a call there. the right play was a pass to the open 7'3" man under the basket. he fukked up!

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

Technically, he had Jose and Afflalo open to pass it to also, but who's counting!

Instead of Option A(KP 2 feet from basket), Option B(near career 50% 3pt shooter Calderon), Option C(near career 40% 3pt shooter Afflalo), he went with the nuclear right decision.

Option D, Melo.

Did not see the right hand on his back, originally.

Would have really affect his already compromised vertical ability.
