Here is what I think our starting lineup will look like for next year....

Dampier
Antoine Walker
Tim Thomas
Allan Houston
Stephon Marbury

yeah, that would be nice. let's hope the dampier deal will not fall through becuase he gets sentimental and go to atlanta which would be our luck like it has been the past couple of years. after that deal, we would probably have to part with thomas and mutumbo to get walker which is fine since walker can flat out sore and rebound. we would have our shot blocker in dampier and since we have houston, marbury and thomas roaming the perimeter, walker can get back to scoring in the post like he used to WAY BACK in the rick pitino days. we still need a replacement for houston eventually but we can concern ourselves with it either next year or take advantage of the bulls demise during the season when their three guard lineup blows up in their face. we also need a legitimate back up center. would you sign ostertag wtih part of the exception for 2 years ( $2mil.)? he is added beef and another six fouls for shaq. we only need him to give dampier breathers.

I sent Damp an e-mail too telling him as a Knick fan I would like to see him play here - a little about how we have been lacking an inside presence since Ewing left, just to let him know the NY fans would appreciate him if he were playing at MSG. I think we should throw some support out to Isiah and send Damp some e-mails trying to lobby him a little to come to NY. It couldnt hurt....

Eh nevermind, he has his auto reply up - I guess everyone is trying to e-mail him lately.

Sigh. Love those box scores for Damps.

Also, I think Walker is far more likely than Jamal at this point. Chicago loves to be stupid and Cuban loves Kurt Thomas.

If we get Dampier, the follow up deal I make is trading KT to facilitate a Carter to Dallas deal and get Antoine Walker. Antoine Walker is definitely not the best individual defensive player, but he has decent physical abilities and can fit well in a scheme. With Dampier in the middle and Sweetney off the bench, our rebounding would be immpressive anyway. Walker's rebounding is mediocre, but not bad by any stretch of the imagination.

People also talk about how Abtoine is quicker than most 4s and can create matchup problems. But, to me, there are two other things he does that are invaluable for this team. The most important skill he brings is excellent high post passing, a necessary ingredient to getting easy baskets in a half-court set. Like I said in a previous post, with Walker, I can see back cuts all over the place especially if we also get Crawford. Walker's scoring threat in the high post opens cutting lanes by drawing out big men. His court vision allows detection of the cutter and an easy conversion. Walker consistently has averaged over 5 assists a game, usually leading to easy baskets.

The second unique ability of Antoine is that his dribbling agility is similar to a guard. He has good ball protection and is comfortable bringing the ball up. Antoine Walker's mere presence reduces the backcourt pressure on Stephon and also decreases the probability of opposing traps run at Marbury. Walker allows our team to get into our offensive sets more quickly and, as a result, take better quality shots. I still wouldn't use Walker exclusively as a point forward because I want Marbury making the majority of decisions with the ball. Just the threat he offers as a potential ball handler makes the transition into our offensive sets more effortless.

So thats my case for Antoine Walker. I think he is a good fit with this team if Dampier is acquired.

Jazz..I'd given some thought to Ostertag. He's kind of a stiff, but can block shots and board. Perhaps for the LLE.

Should be a huge re-vamping should Zeke be able to pull it all off. Dampier is cool, just not sure for 7 years though. Crawford would be a nice addition. That would still leave us with KT who is no slouch, but anyway to package him and another contract to then get Walker from Dallas? Will we have anything left as trade bait after the Dampier and Crawford deals?

How do the Knicks get Walker?

Othella and Nazr gone? So you stick KT, Mutombo, and Moochie in a deal?

That would work and having Moochie backing up Devin Harris could work for Dallas....Mutombo will probably retire then they have KT's services.....Could work since Dallas already seems to have all the scorers they need with Josh Howard and Marquis Daniels seeming like they will be factors next season.

Walker's whole game is versitility. With Dampier down low Walker can be free to do his thing. Marbury can get a break from time to time and the Knicks can be finally have an identity.

Knicks would have potential all-stars at every position just about.
Sounds good but whatever man.....

Let's see something happen before I start changing my roster on NBA Live.

Antoine is unhappy in Dallas and sources say that the two teams he would like to join are the Knicks or the Sixers. Cuban also said that the Knicks have contacted him. So I think that we have a good shot at getting Antoine. If the Dampier trade happens, then we would have more than enough trade bait to get Antoine. I didn't come up with any specific deals but a trade for Walker would most likely include Kurt, Deke, and maybe someone else. I just have a feeling that Antoine will be wearing orange and blue next year.

ESPNEWS just reported that dampier, is expected to make a descison today, within the next few hours

Hopefully, he sees, the cons of playing in ATL,
-same division as shaq
-losing team
-no fans (well some)

i just hope he picks NY

Chad Ford was also just on and said the knicks are front runners for Damp, but he warned everyone not to count Memphis out of the race.

Also talked about VC requesting trade to NY, but not much new in that section. And while we talking about ESPN News, LA found a new center...Vlade Divac

The suspense is getting to me!!!!

I think we will get Damp - I dont know about Craw or Walker though - but adding Damp + 1 of those would completely change the face of this team....especially if we dont have to give up H20, Marbury, or TT...that would make the Knicks NASTY!!! (don't let us down Zeke!)

I want a center who can defend in the worse way, but 7 years for Dampier is a huge NO NO!!! There should be a team option after 4 years...

you got that right, no way does knicks sign any player to a 7 year contract. big mistake.

show me the money: why the heck does damp wanna play with the pigeons

ED is using Atlanta to get years and cash from NY. Anything more than 4 years in a SNT is a mistake.

I browsed Hawksquawk's forums and their not for Damp and don't understand why NY is all over him.

good points all around. I think Islesfan and Briggs summed it up best. Dampier's upside of 12/12/3 for the next 4 years or so simply awesome... he's a good 2-way player and would an awesome fit. The downside is its tough to gage players that have spent 7 years on losing teams and have great seasons in contract years.

Rip made a good point though... 9mm seems awefully steep but w/ Camby getting 10mm, Kmart max, Foyal gets an insane 8mm-9mm, even guys like Doleac and Divac are getting solid paydays. Honestly I think 6 years 65mm is about market value for a 30 year old center coming off the year he had. If the deal's for Othella and Nazr its a no brainer to me.
