wow... somehow translating a 19 year old's hot dogging in his sportscar to murder is an epic stretch. Its reckless driving. Wasnt it like 2am?

If he lost control and slammed into another car at 120, what would I be mischaracterizing?

How do we know if there was any traffic at all

He obviously didn't see the police car that was close enough to witness it and radar him and pull him over, so we can make the safe assumption he wasn't as aware of his surroundings as he thought he was.

A car is a weapon, period.

I don't recall going to a car dealership and asking to see their latest weapons. I THINK YOUR OVER REACTING

What am I overreacting to? He loses control and kills a bystander or passenger, what happens to him?

Jah is getting taunted and poked at constantly. He's been a basketball god since puberty and has won at every level and is really taking it on the chin right now. He will be fine, he has some growing up to do.

I was skiing with buddies once. We were 19-20 range. After skiing some punks in a McDonalds on the road started some crap with us. I punched a dude in the face. I didnt get in trouble.. we bolted. It was stupid teen type behavior. Kid was only saying crap cause he didnt think the skinny kid from NJ would do anything. I could have and should have walked away. Im sure my poor upbringing would have brought up by idiots on the internet also but Im not making NBA millions in an era where every fart is recorded, youtubed, vined, tweeted, shared, instagrammed or viral.

OK4 wasn't taunted, he and his crew were the instigator and aggressor. He acted out and attacked the victims on the street, after the women in the victim's crew rejected OK4's advances.

Get your facts straight.

Isn't that what the lawyer for the victim that would 'prefer' to settle out of court said?

No it's true. It's why the Sixers suspended him 2 games, because he hid the facts about the 2nd fight. They wouldn't have suspended him otherwise. OK4 didn't know their existed a 2nd fight video showing him being the aggressor, calling people Bitches, saying "we got money", and then proceeding to knock out and step on peoples heads.

Brown:

He actually told me what had happened. The details, the further details that came out, surprised me, surprised us. He told us sketchy that he was in a situation that he regretted. As far as the play-by-play of what happened, he did not go into that.

Today we learned more, and the thing I do say is when I spent time with Jahlil in his room today, he is ashamed. He’s embarrassed, and this has caught him off guard. And as I’ve said, I’m a parent of a 19-year-old, too. And you walk the line of – especially in my role – of showing tough love and helping him. But he has made a mistake, and nobody is denying it. Nobody is hiding from it. We own it.

In the conversation that I had with Jahlil when he pulled me up and said this is the situation, I got in a fight and went into the evening, this news that came out today wasn’t a part of that. But he shared generically, holistically, it wasn’t a good night for him that night.

Chucky Okafor...lead nominee for Bad Parent of the year.

Chuck & DK,
I say this not trying to be entirely sarcastic but just wondering about the lens through which you're looking at these scenarios. So Okafor's dad is a bad guy and a "Stage Mom" for raising his son as a single parent after his mom died but moving to America to live off of your newly minted superstar son's dime (or at the very least possibly perceived as being an entourage of hangers on especially since the brother is now his "manager" despite not previously being in that business). Now I'm not really trying to paint the Porzingis family in a bad light but I realize that everything in life is about context and who we extend the benefit of the doubt to and who we dont based off of our perception of who and what they are and most importantly how we relate to them. Seriously, how would you feel if the situations were reversed???

the signs were there all along, and plain to see as far back as the ncaa tournament-- at least to me. no amount of fluff pieces and sob stories is going to change what is roiling under the surface of things. had the mother not suddenly and tragically died, the father's presence in the son's life would not have been close to what it had to be by necessity.

straight talk now: the father never grew up, and as soon as the son was old enough to get noticed, the father found a meal ticket. that is not "support." that is the sort of familial exploitation that cannot go on without repercussions, especially in the face of adversity.

had jahlil okafor had a true mentor for any length of time we would not be talking about him... because he would have a center of gravity that he does not presently possess. being nineteen and "doin' stuff" is a glib way of dismising what is going on with him. you and others need to see self-destructive behavior for what it is and try to get to the heart of the matter.

if the situation were reversed i would arrive at the same exact assessment. meantime, when he gets the help he needs, okafor could possibly turn things around and blossom into a self-possessed adult. meantime he is a mess.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

If he did a "Suge Knight", like literally jumped in his vehicle and mowed 2 people down, then I can see you referring to the car as a weapon.

But driving over the speed limit is not classified as using one's vehicle as a weapon, which is why he got a ticket and sent on his way.

You're acting like he was on some GRAND THEFT AUTO shht. Yes it's careless and dumb, but really dude, 19 yr old kid with a new toy. Lighting up, at least he wasn't high and drunk.

As someone said, it's a thin line between walking away and jailed for 20 years (or dead).

In this case, his intent wouldn't have even mattered.

I'm sorry, that's incredibly stupid behavior and he's lucky (not skilled or smart) something awful didn't occur.

19 year old millionaire sober honor roll student with a new toy just being a kid accidentally mows down a family member of yours, I doubt you'd be as forgiving.

Does this kid have a history of getting in trouble, were there any character issues (i dont think so) in this kids scouting report, and are you insinuating that this young mans farther should have stayed out of his life.

I know plenty of good parents who's kids still get into trouble every now and then. People are fckg human, they make mistakes, everyone deserves a second chance no matter what they did, realistically speaking.

I have had some nice BMW's and Porches' and they was fast with amazing braking. I drove way above the limit in circumstances well beyond the limit.
And I felt in control. Got a pulled doing 120 but written up for 74mph. I pulled over when the cop saw me and waited for him. He thanked me. Said He recognized me and knew me to speed but not endanger others. 120 in a 55. Dude wrote me for 19 over and my lawyer took care of that shyt for $150 bucks. Now, I was not on the bridge and I doubt he can drive as well as I could but nice machines are empowering because its not like doing 120 in a mini van, its a car build to go fast and stop fast.

If I crashed IN most situations I would have killed myself. I absolutely don't condone speeding/weaving or doing it where there are pedestrians.

Lets not get all over oka4 for his speeding. Its dumb and he got caught. Its dumb and worrysome not because he is a nice kid, its because he is a public sport figure and an huge investment for the 76ers. The face of a franchise and in line for a 100 million dollar contract in a few years. He should call everyone named Jason/Jayson Williams about things that can happen. Duke Jayson got hurt on a motorcycle. ST johns Jayson got drunk and misfired a shot gun and then tried to cover it up. Guns and booze don't mix. Neither does stupidity.

Oka4 needs to realize every punk out at 4 in the morning wants either his money or a piece of his ass. Go home.

You won't believe what this little bastard did after killing 4 in a DUI
By Reuters

FORT WORTH, Texas — Law enforcement authorities launched an investigation Thursday into a video that allegedly shows the Texas teen from a wealthy family who killed four people while driving drunk among revelers at a party, possibly in violation of his probation.

The teen, tried in juvenile court, was spared prison, but his sentence of 10 years’ probation for intoxication manslaughter prohibits him from drinking. A psychologist called as an expert witness by his lawyers said the teen had “affluenza,” a condition in which enormous wealth kept him from being responsible for his actions.

The American Psychiatric Association does not recognize “affluenza” as a diagnosis. The probation sentence ignited a public backlash, with many saying family wealth helped shield the youth from more serious punishment.

“We are aware of it and are investigating the claims,” said Samantha Jordan, a spokeswoman for the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office.

The six-second video was posted on Twitter by a user on Wednesday. It shows a few people around a table covered with red plastic cups and cans of beer in a game of beer pong.

As a young man dives onto the table, the camera pans to show a male resembling the wealthy teen jumping and clapping at the sight.

A Twitter user who goes by the handle @BlondeSpectre wrote: “ya boy … violating probation. i got more if u want.”

The teen, who was 16 at the time of the deadly crash, had a blood-alcohol level that was nearly three times the legal limit when he was speeding and lost control of his pickup truck.

The truck struck the driver of a car that had broken down by the side of the road and three other people who had stopped to help the stranded motorist in June 2013.

Four other people were injured, two seriously, in the crash south of Fort Worth.

The teen, now 18, served time in a youth detention center but is no longer in custody, Jordan said.

The Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office has begun the process of transferring supervision of the teen from juvenile to adult court. A hearing on the transfer is pending, Jordan said.

Looks like a possible defense for pro-athletes and celebrities.

Wonder if OK4 can be cured of his affluenza?!

Here's Coach K's comment:

“Jah is one of the great kids ever. Ever, ever, ever. And, you know, get into some situations - he needs to move on. They also need to have security. Like, when we’re with the U.S. team, we have security for everybody because all of those guys are targets. You’ve just got to be smart about that. He was not. He apologized. He is being punished.

Look, anybody who pictures that kid as some bad kid, you’ve got to be kidding me. He is one of the most loving, good kids who has ever happened on this earth. But he did a couple stupid things. OK, knock him, suspend him, let’s move on. But let’s not characterize him as that. He is not that. That kid is a special, special human being. And he is a pretty damn good basketball player in addition, too.”
