I think Calderon can be effective, but not as a starter.
I totally agree, he could find his shooting rhythm as a SG and he's tall enough to guard the opposing SG, at least he could be a better defender than vs the PG. It's the coach role to squeeze every drop of potential of what he has. Putting Calderon a the starting point guard is not helping him. Giving him a role of a spot up shooter and provider of the extra pass is actually putting him in the best position for him and the team.
Besides, if they want to showcase him to trade him later, why not showcase him with the role he would have on an other team. A bench player who can shoot.
