Shooting the Knicks out of games. 1 good game out 5. No legs Melo should take a week or 2 off, maybe longer.

He's hurting the team the same way Kobe hurts the Lakers playing with no legs.

Speaking of Kobe:

You get your legs back by playing at game speed. It takes time. Resting doesn't solve the issue. If you lift once and are sore the next day, do you stop lifting until you are no longer sore? I can tell you don't play or never really have played organized basketball by these comments.

How many more games do the Knicks have to endure of this poor play then?

Will he starting hitting shots finally when they're too far out of contention?

Signed through 2018=19. Potentially up to 324 more, including 78 this season.

I'll ask again in what universe do you envision the NY Knicks sitting Carmelo Anthony and is this forum the Stargate to that universe?

(2)and you (fisher) yank him when he takes two bad shots in a row by calling a face-saving timeout. he does that often enough. play hard but learn how to play smart and change behavior patterns. you do that by sitting him. maybe he will get the message and tighten up his game, which is not tight at all.

You KNOW that will not happen.

Again, why are fans so fixated on calling for things they know won't occur?

no i don't know it will not happen. fisher is a winner, jackson is a winner. this is melo's last chance to prove he can lead but that will require his willingness to change his approach and not be a coach killer. so it's shyt or get off the pot for him. fisher has leverage should he decide to exert it. just my humble opinion.

Still NOT going to happen and I think you DO know it.

fisher has already called at least one timeout in the wake of melo making two bone-headed plays. i can't remember which game it was but it was towards the end of the first quarter i believe. so we have a precedent, of sorts.

No, unless he yanked him to of the game, which is ACTUALLY what you suggested, there is no precedent.

Did he?

Anthony is playing his 13th year. He is what he is at this stage. Winning and offensive execution goes a long way in this case. When things are flowing well, Melo will go with the flow. When thing are going bad, Melo is going to revert to old habits and dare I say, so will his teammates. The trick at this stage is to gather enough talent and get the team to buy in so the good nights outnumber the bad.

Anyone who thinks a strategy of shaming a 13 year veteran who whether you happen to agree or not is respected by his peers is going to elevate the Knicks franchise around the league, I just don't know what you're thinking about other than petulance.

i'll see your shaming and petulance and raise you resignation and cynicism.

seriously though, it's all a game to me, ie seeing how fisher and jackson deal with melo and vice-versa... because i don't foresee any significant achievement while melo as a starter on the knicks anyway.

i have them down for 34 wins this year, how about you?

[EDIT} never mind you have them at 41 wins or so.

If you had them down for 34 wins, then RIGHT NOW the Knicks are AHEAD of where you thought they'd be. 2-3 translates to 33 wins, and you won't find many 5 games stretches tougher than the one they just completed.

I don't know about optimistic, but if you had them down for losing 2 of every 5 games against the league at large, the fact they held what you define as serve for these very tough first five games SHOULD be a source of encouragement for you.

And Fisher and Jackson are going to "deal" with Melo by starting him and playing him 34-38 mins a night. I don't think anyone genuinely believes otherwise. I think any arguments suggesting "strategy" to handle Melo is strictly for internet fights only, and I think you know it.

nice try... bringing logic and reason into an argument when Melo is the topic with those two posters is an exercise in futility. You MUST be new. Good post regardless and great handle. I believe DK should only address you as mr. big balls

Small balls? Playing Smello 34-38 minutes is a recipe for disaster. If he got no legs this early in the season, he'll need to be amputated at the knee by mid season.

Let's please limit our favorite no legs chucker closer to 30 minutes or less, he's 31 years old you know.

He's averaging 34 at the moment and will likely creep up from here. A few maintainence days off here and there will not effect his mins-per avg.

And so far its been a recipe for exactly what you guys expected record-wise against an inordinately tough schedule.

Again, I don't know why you guys are fixated on arguing for things you KNOW aren't going to happen. The point of it eludes me.

It shouldn't creep up, it should creep down. He's old as the dirt.

Hyperbole is always a solid option. He's not going to average under 30 mins a game and you and I and everyone else here know it.

True or false, at Melo's advanced age and 13 seasons in the NBA coming off major knee surgery, should Melo average closer to 30 minutes a game or less?

You've moved the goal posts and you know it. I've merely suggested we all know what will happen and arguing otherwise is futile. You're not refuting that in any way.

But to entertain your argument anyway (I'm good like that), the answer is I don't know.

I'm no team doctor or orthopedist. I have NO idea of 4-9 minutes every other evening will make a difference or how much of one. I DO know Melo will hardly be the only NBA 31 year old to average better than 34 mins a night.

If you want to advance a cogent argument what the Knicks SHOULD do (ignoring what we know they will do) to a audience that has NO say in the issue, fine, but do better than generalizations and platitudes. Present medical evidence that 30 mins is some magic number that will reap tangible benefits. Otherwise you're just assuming and making up numbers to back up assumptions.

I'm sure that the uber-critical media of this city is a deterrent for some players looking for a new team...

...and social media has made it even more difficult for some players to cope with criticism-gives fans an entirely new way to get at players.

A tough town requires a tough skin. Highly rewarded players who come here from other teams already understand that with great money comes great accountability.

Dont worry... you get used to it.

Oh and for the stats guys like DK who tout advanced stats over traditional Melo is the #2 on the team win win shares per 48, only behind Gallo who is shooting at a non-sustainable pace. So despite the poor shooting he's still playing the best ball on the team sans Gallo.

So yea... lets bench one of the guys playing the best ball. Even in a fantasy nintendo land thats dumb.

not sure i agree with the math because of the small sample size, but whatever. 34 wins is in the middle of a range of wins i had. the high end is 38-41 if all goes well. (all in my signature line btw).

i doubt fisher will have melo averaging that many minutes, for the sake of melo's health if for nothing else. we have him for a bunch more games and he is being paid a king's ransom. besides, the league is trending towards fewer mpg, i believe. no sense in running a guy into the ground when he is already showing clear signs of wear and tear, breaking down.

They win tonight and they're right in the high end of that range. THIS is why small sample sizes are pointless.

i doubt fisher will have melo averaging that many minutes,

Nice, 1 good game out of 6 for Melo now. 6 assists in the first half, but after seeing KP, Galloway, and Grant bring the Garden to its feet in the 2nd half, he reverts back to ISO Melo and tunnel visions himself to ZERO 4th quarter points.

At least he's consistent.

Shooting the Knicks out of games. 1 good game out 5. No legs Melo should take a week or 2 off, maybe longer.
