One could argue Matthew Dellavedova played an even bigger role during the semis, ECF, and in the finals when Kyrie went down.

No one sane would even go that route and say Lebron made it to the NBA finals, because of Matthew Dellavedova.

Lebron made to the NBA finals before with hot trash like Boobie Gibson, Larry Hughes, Drew Gooden and Shannon Brown. Dude's that f#cking great.

Im sure they are. They carried us to the gutter.

Did I mention they make wonderful scapegoats...So we should have no problems this year correct??..No more excuses...

Clev was hurting bad for a rim defender and the trade for Mozgov gave them that.
Then Love took two weeks off and came back strong.
Kyrie started to blend in better.

Those three things were huge. JR and SHump did a nice job and nobody denies that! As role players they filled their role.

As prime time major players on the knicks they did not play well, nor did the team. The record speaks for itself.

Thus, one can deduct they were enhanced playing with 3 all stars and a 7 foot rim protector.

No..
Before LeBron James' memorable game-winner in the Eastern Conference semifinals against Chicago, it was Smith's fourth quarter surge that sparked Cleveland's comeback. His three-point barrage and 28 points in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals helped the gimpy Cavs set the tone against the Hawks, a series that ended in a 4-0 sweep.

Considered by many as a throw-in alongside Iman Shumpert in the three-team deal that helped the Cavs' second half turnaround, Smith was writing a redemption story.

He went from the worst team in the league to a title contender, and suddenly, he was making a positive impact. The conversation shifted from his ill-advised shots, mood swings and late-night excursions to his dangerous shooting stroke and impressive work ethic.

Give the bomb some time.

Yes, JR was great for us for a brief seasonal spell, too. Remember the dunk at the Alamo...? JR's alot like that story. Brief flash of glory followed by crash and burn.

They went to the finals. In hindsight there is not doubt those two contributed. They played in a system that benefited their skill set.
I recall reading a commentary on how important Mozgov was in the defensive end.

If Kyrie played, that's 30 back court minutes not given. Someone sits.

Did JR rise to the occaision in the finals? Did he hit clutch shots? game Winners? Dude played OK. Not his fault they lost in the finals and he did an admirable job.
Scapegoat in NY? not in my book, but they are not building blocks to the future. Glad Shump got his money. JR getting half of what Shump is getting and JR has twice the ability!!!!

Those two sucked in their roles a major players for the knicks. If JR boned up and got bored in Cleveland (he said it) and focused on playing then it should translate on the court.
JR admitted nite life in Clev made him focus on playing. Dude even got married cuz he is now to be there a few years.

I dunno, what did you see on the court last year with those two in NY?

dude is straight up soft trash. can't believe he is getting credit for anything. the main difference maker was mozgov.
knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

Jeremy Lin is a folk hero of NY Knick lore as he bagged the playoffs for a payday...JR Smith played on a blown out knee to help the team and he is forever tagged as they guy who didn't show up for us in the playoffs...I'll go to war with guys like JR over guys like Lin any day...

You can't rewrite how Cleveland got turned around...It's well written..Everyone saw it...Cleveland was 19-20 WITH Love and WITH Kyre before the trade..."stop trying to fit out and fit in"..Remember that??...Adding Moz, JR and Shump changed their defense...JR's role as the 4th option fit Cleveland like a glove...Love didn't have to show up nightly which he didn't and it didn't hurt Cleveland after the trade...It is not a bad thing that the system fit their style of play...Blatt actually changed it to Woody's system and benefited..U don't get extra gold stars for getting to the Finals running the triangle..

The entire team sucked at their roles last year, not just JR and Shump...The GM sucked in his role last year...The coach sucked big time, in his role last year...JR was the best passer I saw in the triangle...It wasn't even close...I said it over and over and over again...I can't speak about what JR did in meetings and the locker room...Phil covered that..To blame what happen in the first half of the season on Shump and JR is a cop out...Frankly, I'm happy to see them vindicated by getting to the Finals and being a major cog in the wheel that ran to the Finals...

They are role players, we all want JR to be the number two guy, well he isn't..Doesn't make him bad...JR wasn't up to the task of being Melo's or Bron sidekick, fine, but there is a lot of room for guys like JR and his talent in the NBA...They will help Cleveland win a ring if their all stars can stay on the court and play their roles...Everyone knows they aren't getting to the Finals without Bron..But last year, Cleveland weren't getting to the Finals without JR and Shump...

JR had to be the number 2 guy. There was no one else. They had the highest paid player in the nba and another guy making almost 12 mil but neither were capable of being anything close to a number 2 guy.

Stepping into the number 2 role and actually playing like a number 2 are two completely different things..Love isn't a number 2 either..John Starks couldn't do it either..If you can't play consistent basketball, you can't be a number two on a championship caliber team..

Phil Files blamed JR and Shump for not buying in...Phil said JR wasn't good in the locker room, in meetings, and in the triangle...Shump was moody and had a negative vibe in the locker room..There is no JR to point fingers at...I don't think it's a good team but I'm sure Phil does...He is building a team he expects to win isn't he??..He is passing on players that can help in my opinion...So he has a good idea who is here and who can win games...I can't wait to see it..I'm rooting for him...

They were the same malcontents the year before and should have been moved to support Woodson. They needed to go. Not sure why Woodson received no support the previous year.

Shump and JR became a problem after it was evident that Woody was finished in NY..The move them to show support point is moot..

I disagree. When Woodson was fighting for his job and JR wouldn't shoot because he was asked by Woodson to take better shots I thought that was the end for him. He had many previous incidents that should have gotten him moved but I thought that was the final betrayal.

There is a reoccurring theme that getting rid of JR and Shump was essentially what held us back..I think we had bigger problems than that..But they are now gone..We should be winning now...

Woody's fate was decided when Grunwald was fired and Mills took over..I posted an article a few weeks ago showing house was being cleans at the management level even before the season started..Only chance Woody had to save him job was getting to the Finals...

I think if you are disrespectful/and or try to sabbotage the coach like those guys were to Woodson you move them. Teams that are successful don't keep guys like that around. Shump, JR,and Tyson were ridiculous in their behavior during Woodson's last year.
