Yeah, I would love to see Melo take a leadership role and go Pippen 93-94 on this season. But I predict he'll go more like Marbury 06-07 or something. He just isn't wired to do this. I think Phil has been playing mind games with him for a while now, basically since the off-season... trying to force Melo to ask for a trade. I think Melo will do so. I wish he would accept the challenge, but I don't know if he's that kind of player.

It's a very good article, the only one's I can see disagreeing are folks bent on defending melo over wanting whats best foir the team.

In the past at least he interviewed George Karl when he did it. Speaking as Phil Jackson in the first person has to be a new low for him.

Melo has a large following for whatever reason..ESPN.com a few days ago had Carmelo as the most searched topic on the site by a huge margin..This is during the NBA offseason, in the middle of baseball season, NFL contract signings..If u had an article to write about Melo, now is the time..

People sticking up for Melo is laughable.

4 years of mediocrity buys you alot of loyalty I guess.

Stephon Marbury, take a bow, you've been replaced.

We'd have to improve by a few steps to be mediocre

This is really reminding me of the lead up to Marbury's exit here. When D'Antoni didn't tell Marbury he wasn't starting til opening night. I don't think Phil or Fisher will do that. But the message to Melo is CRYSTAL CLEAR right now. Or it should be. Be a team player, help build something, or we can all move on.

That shouldn't be a slight to Melo at all. He should be thrilled, honestly. But he's been coddled so long I think he'll take it as an insult, as Marbury did and as Melo's fans are doing now.

I have never loved Melo. I respect his all world scoring ability. Dislike his personality. My favorite time of the Melo years was honestly when he sat out with an injury and we got Linsanity. If he buys in, I'll root for him. If he doesn't, I hope we can arrange a trade quickly.

Agreed. 2nd worst record in NBA, worst in franchise history, 53 games of which superstar Melo played.

No excuses for this loser.

exactly how I feel ... I used to defend him to but I was not going to stay stupid forever.

Melo's problem is also his idiot people (like Iverson). They aren't helping him.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

2010-2011 42-40 (14-14 post Melo trade)
2011-2012 36-30
2012-2013 54-28
2013-2014 37-45
2014-2015 17-65

Total: 186-182 since the Melo trade.

That's the very definition of mediocrity.

we can't just discredit each guy who comes after Melo. Perhaps there is some truth to some of it?

Yeah, but it's not like he's saying the article was terrible. The article isn't Melo hate. It's asking Melo to step it up and embrace the challenge.
