That's the only things I could thing of why a guy of his talents should get over min money.

Maybe we needed to beat other offers he had?? There was talk that 3 other teams were interested in him which one was the Spurs.

Why should did we consider doing that?

Ummmmmmmmmm huh???

I'm saying energy guys are not that rare. We should be be trying to outpay anyone for Lance Thomas.

I would say that energy guys that can actually understand and play in the Triangle are rare. Remember he came in with no training camp and picked up the system very quickly. As did Lou. They both changed the mentality of the team for the better.

You gotta luv knick fans....emotionally tied to every knick player and GM move....even for end of the bench players.

The only perfect thing in this world is God...not Phil. And if anybody wants to know whats in phills head...search his twitter account. Along with his staffs account. Find out who decided to give Lance 390k more than you expected. You're wasting your time here. I dont think you will find any legit answers to a lance thomas signing in here.

Good luck with that one. Meanwhile....welcome back Lance...Hopefully you can be a triangle teacher for those that are lost. Lets see how he impacts the game now that we have more roll players. I believe he fills a need off the bench according to the experts that said SF was a hole on our bench. Hes a solid role player and a solid locker room guy who knows and excepts the triangle... nothing else to be said......

Lance is a smart player, Phil rewarded him for his intelligence.

Thank God Fisher is no longer our coach, now let's get Calderon out of here:)

Lance is a smart player and a good character guy. Some of you are missing the theme, I think. All the moves are centered around good character and solid professionals, high IQ players.

The whole of the parts is greater than the sum. The Knick teams that won had the same quality.

Ho hum. We're splitting hairs with these micro contracts.
Is Shved going to be a huge difference maker vs giving Ledo or Grant those minutes? Those two are younger are perhaps more upside. I'd love to get him back after what he showed last year in the triangle (especially drawing fouls), but I won't cry or lose any sleep if he's gone.

At some point you need to grab a few role players that can definitely play roles... Vs just place bets on projects.

Williams - gamble (his soph season in college was really magical statistically...)
Lance - role player
Amundson - role player
Ledo - gamble
Shved - still a gamble, though close to establishing himself as a rotation guy.
Galloway - established himself as at least a reliable role player with starter minute potential
O'Quinn - role player with starter potential

“That was two, two from the heart.” - John Starks

So? As did everyone on the Summer League roster of both last year and this years newcommers as well. Nothing special. Energy guys are always positive players in the locker room because of their hard work. A big concern for me is whether or not we can still sign a decent back up SG with the room excpetion we have left...Do you know if you can add cap space onto a room excpetion deal?

Lance Thomas is a good team guy. I would've rather given him the minimum, but he was one of the guys who played hard for Fisher and learned the Triangle. If you're gonna have end of the bench guys, and you are, he's not a bad one to have. This helps builds continuity and an identity and shows hard work is rewarded. I'm fine with it.

The reason Gerald Green didn't come to NY for the minimum and went to Miami instead is that Miami is a winning franchise and guys want to win. NY has a lot to prove before we start getting bargains on the cheap again.

agreed, amundson showed a bit more. I just dont get this signing

Amundson will almost certainly be next.

I don't know if Shved will come back for the room or if he can get more money from another team or Europe, but they are trying to get him.

IMO teams have to have players who are willing to accept a lesser role and perhaps not even consistent playing time, but that still give 110% in practice and whenever they're called to come into a game. He's not going to hurt you and can give good minutes off the bench. Sometimes it's tough to have a player with perhaps a bit more talent that thinks he should be playing more and will be unhappy with not playing. I think LT is good for team dynamics.

Not to mention that he actually can function in the Triangle, which continually gets underestimated when we talk about different players we could add. He showed that he could actually play well in this system at least up to his limited abilities. He's not being paid as a difference maker.

LT doesn't have to be special to be good for the team. He proved his worth last year under less that optimal circumstances. His presence won't stop us from signing an additional SG using the Room Exception so it's not a big deal.

The reward for Thomas being a good guy should have been a job at vets min not a 500 k or so bonus. I look at Derrick Williams deal and wonder who would have given him $4 per. These extra monies, 500k and 1mil while small total 1.5 mil that maybe could have been put to use

WTH man???? I don't get this move at all. So many better options out there for a roster spot. How many open spots do we have now anyway? You figure one is almost certainly going to Thanasis for the sacrifice he showed last yr by playing in Westchester for peanuts instead of going abroad to play (we kept hearing that so there must be truth to it--if so, fine, but Thanasis should get the Lance Thomas spot then!). If anything, Thomas should've been allowed to compete for a spot with the SL team. I mean WTF--this dude Mo N'dour looks like a vastly superior player to Lance Thomas. Not only that--Shved is much more of a priority. WTF man--get Shved done first--or at least OFFICIALLY offer Shved either the room exception or the rest of the cap space, either/or. Let me hear he turned both down, then I'll move on. Now Phil went and torpedoed one avenue to bring Shved back. I mean WTF with the Goddamn reluctance to bring Shved back already???!!!??? We've had two guards that have really distinguished themselves above anyone else over the past couple of years--Lin and Shved--lost Lin to a money issue and now we appear to be on the verge of losing Shved over the same nonsense. Bottom line--Shved should've be resigned by now. And sorry but Lance Thomas doesn't do a thing for me. Better players in the DL for Pete's sake. Not happy.

Phil has a team of NBA professionals, so he clearly knows what he was doing with this move. We are just coach potatos who drink beer all day. If it is any consolation, newyorkerforver was offering to text Phil Jackson that people were not okay with this deal.

I'm going to have to say that given the fervor and emotions expressed on this thread, we are entering a period of time for the Knicks which may someday be looked back upon as the "Lance Thomas Era," as it would seem that some of you believe the fate of this franchise will be determined by the very fact that Lance is on the Knicks.

I just hope that Lance can shoulder this burden.
