I look at Monroe and question whether he enjoys the game. He's a good player, but I never once was excited about him.

Moving on.

I would make a big push for Robin Lopez and Derrick Williams NOW.

His defense will be a heck of a lot better now guarding these awful NBA centers instead of the best players in the game at PF. Lopez had it easy

Lopez had it somewhat easy because Portland had a fantastic perimeter defensive squad. LaMarcus definitely benefited from playing next to Lopez though.

Monroe makes sense in Milwaukee - not so much in NY with no defensive bigs.

I doubt it. Phil thought he was doing right by the fans who criticized him for the Melo deal. Only now was not the time to lowball free agents. Especially with the amount of money being thrown around to bums

The same principle holds: you cannot sink all of your money into just 1 player. For me, I don't care what other teams are throwing at players, Monroe is and probably will always be a limited player.

The Knicks could certainly use more NBA level talent on this team. We have a lot of holes to fill before we are even a .500 team. We should just accept that and look to build long term. The Sac salary dump would have been something we should have been in on if we were ready to accept a full rebuild.

Now you have Matthews-Melo-Jordan/Lopez. To me much better balance.

Afflalo?

What about him?

Some Media guys are already going off on the Knicks for not offering the Max to Monroe. SMH. You can't overvalue players in the Knicks position. We still have to see what happens with Jordan and Aldridge and then move on to the next tier of bigs and spread the money around. A trade is also still in play.

Although I liked the idea of adding his passing and low post scoring, his lack of defense was troubling- I'm so fed up of having a defensive joke of a team. I'd love Jordan, but I'll be okay with Lopez and another front court player.

Phil did say his plan was to add 3 players who weren't big names, but who fit the system while not overpaying. He's sticking to his plan- most of the people who blasted 2010 should appreciate this.

Lopez gets to be in same town as his brother... lots of marketing potential for both of them there, and he is a solid player.

Yeah I agree. Seems like Phil has his price for each FA and he's sticking to it. Monroe may have wanted more than Phil had him valued.

Is saving $1-2mil that big a deal? The max Monroe can make is $16mil. Favs just gave Shumpert $20mil on potential

I like Enes.

Not sure of his D but he actually fits the system better than Monroe. Plus he is younger. Offer him the max and then sign a defensive 4 as cheap as you can!

I don't think we have room to sign Wes Matthews with Afflalo on board.

I believe we have about $21M in cap room right now.

I'd go either:

a) $20M to DeAndre Jordan

or

b) $12M to Robin Lopez (give him the Tyson Chandler deal 4yr $53M)
$7M to Derrick Williams
$2M to Shved

Not a Williams fan. I would be ok with Lopez at 11 and Matthews at 11. It doesn't have to be Matthews.

crzymdups wrote:Yeah, reports Phil did not offer Monroe the max. I think if he had, Monroe would have signed immediately. Offering him less than the max to come to a losing team... oh well. Not a huge mistake, to me it is really questionable if Monroe is a max guy.

"I THINK IF HE HAD"????? Ok, where do you get this impression?

We showed him love by being first on his door step. I have to say that Milwaukee has a very impressive line up and he was a finishing piece. For those who think change can't happen look at milwaukee. Change of owner bought in a new culture and after few high picks and some crafty trades with assets on the books they are moving into top 6 team in the east.

Its obvious that Monroe had max money waiting for him in a few cities. Until I hear "Monroe was set for ny until phil did not offer him max" then I have to ask why? But to just insinuate that we know what Greg Monroe is thinking is a bit presumptive.

We all want a starphuch moment. This guy chose to play with Jabari, the freak, MCW and Jason Kidd. As long as his best interests don't conflict with ours I wish him all the best.
Maybe we make our big splash next year or we trade melo and keep rebuilding.

Bottom line is not worth getting upset nor is redundant negative rants gonna get me riled up.

Im off on two week vacation. Knicks don't pay my mortgage or put my kids thru school. Until then its just entertainment.

It's called building for the future and long term knicks plans.. No more overpaying for just good players. I like it.. Monroe wants max money then go someplace else..

Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

Yeah we saw what he could do when he got out of Utah and in OKC but he has no defense at all. He can play the 4 and the 5 so we would need to get a really good defensive player at the 4 or 5 but this kid can dominate in every other aspect of his game. I wouldn't be mad at signing him at all.

The thought of Lopez lumbering around the floor of Madison Square Garden is nauseating to me. I want nothing to do with the Lolez gene pool. All these years and we still don't have someone who can get easy shots around the basket.

Ugh I'm disgusted

lumbering? That has Monroe written all over it

Yea but Monroe uses his girth to score in the post The lopez's weigh 200lbs and lumber around. Each movement is so slow and predicated. It sickens me to watch. Total killer of the flow of a ball moving offense. Phil wants hard quick passes. Then the ball gets to Lopez and it's like someone hit the slow motion button. I would take any center but Lopez.

Now I'm hearing Kanter. Awful defensively yikes
But still better than Lopez. We are desperate for easy baskets in the post. The only time we've had it since LJ & Ewing was Amare's first year
