2nd year is a player option as well so he could opt out after next year.

You like a guy and think he fits what you are trying to do you got out and get him even if you slightly overpay in this market. $12mil is not that much more for all the vitriol he endured here the past 2 days from guys like you and fish

Well let's not overreact. This is still a much weaker roster than I imagined we'd have sixteen months into Phil's contract.
What do you mean by 12 mil? Are you talking about the 3 year, 36-38 mil contract rumor? There's a huge difference between 36 to 38 mil and 16 mil.

It isn't as terrible as a thought. Now we have like 19m to work with now, yes?
So so far opening night Lineup is this:
Grant
Afflalo
Melo
Nobody/KP
Nobody
We still have some work to do.
The Future is Bright!

Plus it means we're not going to waste money on broken down Wes Mathews

Im glad we didn't overpay him. He had a off year but he still can play. He will also be motivated to have a good year and make more money if he opts out after next year

Solid pickup in many ways.

Decent player for the price. The limited cost and contract length make any of his weaknesses more acceptable.

You throw a bone to Anthony, who is a friend.

You don't get tied down too much in terms of the length of his contract. You get a guy who can contribute right away, but if he declines, you are not paying out on a 4 year deal. Might also be a nice trade deadline piece down the road.

Gives Afflalo some flexibility too, based on his performance and the new cap numbers in the future. Has a great deal of incentive to play well, since he will be young enough to command a new contract in 2 years.

Wonder if Jackson was trying to get a team option of a third year, but Afflalo did not want that?

Give the reality of where we are, this was a good signing...maybe better than good.

EnySpree: Can we agree to agree not to mention Phil Jackson and triangle for the rest of our lives?

he's a one year rental.

Good, in that it will be a contract year and he will be looking to prove everyone wrong and get paid.

Bad because he's here for him and has no real long term commitment to our success. How did that work out for us last season with JR & Shump?

That's what you are gonna get when you are a weak team. Until the Knicks show progress its gonna be tough. The cap rising next year is another reason why players want to sign shorter deals in order to take advantage of that

This guy was shooting close to 50% from the field in Denver if you discount last year. This is a steal. He is a better BASKETBALL player than Danny Green and Wes Matthews will ever be. So glad we signed him and not another stopgap SG

I might have preferred Matthews, but you know, a bird in the hand and all...

Im fine with this. Im not a huge Afflalo fan but it's reasonable in a world where Shump gets a 4/$40 "mucho dinero" contract (still can't believe that)....Anyway, the 2nd year player option gives him incentive to replicate his career highs from 2 years ago. Also, he is decent on D.

He was my number one off season target until he injured his achillies - don't think any player has recovered from that

We are not in the meetings or on the calls with the agents and Mills so its silly to keep blaming phil for "asking".

Conceptually the guy is not giveng up money, it'd "deferred". If he wants his cheddar now, he'll state it.

I think Phil thinks he is in play for LMA. I rather have the much younger Monroe.

See what a few million saved here Nd there can do?

Monroe @ $15-16mil and a vet big like Bass or Wright. Call it a day

Very solid move. Don't like the player option in the second year, will definitely be gone or have to overpay him.

Add Monroe and maybe grab the kid from memphis and it's a very good offseason.
