Carroll was always more of a 3.

Lowry
DeRozan
Carroll
Johnson/Hansbrough
Valanciunas

may not look like much, but they won the division without a legit SF last season. Carroll will improve their D and give them another shooter.

sort of surprised he went there, but Toronto realized they had to overpay. I don't know if the Knicks realize that yet.

incredible contract... its funny.. we are going to hear a ton about how nobody comes to NY, but at the same time if we signed Carrol to $15mm per people would be calling it an Amare type contract part 2.

Lets see how this plays out

agreed. at a certain point, it may just be a better bet to hold on to the cap space as a trade asset.

I haven't been in the trade Melo camp but if they don't get at least one big name it seems like that might be the best move for both parties. Really hoping for Monroe/Afflalo now.

KNICKS should've been more aggressive and locked those guys up right away. Now they are desperate. If they don't get those 2 they need to use their cap space add salary in return for picks. The
Anti-Walsh route. Then trade Melo ASAP

The NBA has gone crazy.

The cap is doubling in two years. $15M is a bargain

So you would of signed Carroll to that contract if you were the Knicks?? That's ridiculous.

What's ridiculous is thinking Carroll would take that contract from us. That contract is basically the new MLE.

What are you talking about?? If we offered him that same contract he would of chosen us.

The Raptors won the division last year. We won 17 games. Why would he choose NY again?

But neither team won a game in the playoffs.

at this point I would just roll out the carpet for Monroe and use the rest in a deal that saves some taxed team from paying 3x for a player and get us a pick back to keep building this thing up.

One thing i like about phil is that hes not desperate. ...and doesnt make desperate moves. If he doesn't find a top FA....oh well....doesnt build around melo....oh well. Thats why he didnt mind the no trade clause.....the way things are going....melo will lift that clause for a trade to LA eventually. But phil doesnt come off as the rush type. Its that pimp mentality. ...dont chase the girls.....let the girls chase you. Build up the knicks with the bargain contracts and save cap space.

yea.. this. I liked the draft a lot. I would be fine if maybe we grab Monroe and make smaller deals with teams desperate for cap space or tax savings that get us some picks back. Even late #1s etc

I mean I love Carroll, but $15mm is insane, it really is.

Hows that Melo contract looking now.

Monroe is basically meeting with Portland's entire team right now.

the issue is that fans have not adjusted yet to the numbers but they make total sense with the future of the cap. a $15 mil deal in the new cap would be about a $10 mil deal today. the contracts given out so far are no different than any other year, it's just that the size of the number is just jarring b/c it's new to the fan's system.

danny green's deal is the absolute anomaly b/c he wanted to stay in san antonio no matter what. every other deal has been ok and justifiable so far.

as for a raptors POV, we still need a starting PF so we might re-sign amir or make a deal (probably for taj gibson or maybe even david lee on a rental). we still have $11 mil to play with along with 4 future firsts to make some moves. losing lou and amir will definitely hurt tho. but playoffs should be guaranteed again. and for a franchise with such a weak history, making it 3 years in a row is an accomplishment.

New york--what do w do if we strike out--trade melo? Its almost unfair at this point to both Melo and the Knicks if we get stuck taking secondary crp in.

I think this would be the best scenario if we don't get any FA's here. but where to trade?

DeRozan is helping to recruit him. They have $11M in cap room left.

have $11 mil in cap right now - but we could probably dump someone like ross or james johnson (or include in a S&T) if need be.

Yeah i think if we strike out and Melo would agree to it then we might as well trade him if we get the right offer. The contracts that are being given out right now are too much for us to even match if we wanna build this team the right way. Milsap 4 years 80 million and Carroll 4 years 60 miilion. We can't give out contracts like that with the position we're in right now. This is getting me very nervous right now.

The Milsap numbers are truly ridiculous if you are looking at today's contracts. I expect that paying these amounts on a 4 year deal is taking into consideration the cap hikes which are looming in the future. Averaged about 13.8/7.8/2.5 in the Cleveland series, and during the year, on a team with no rebounders, he could not crack 8RPG.

He and Carroll are nice players, but not at the amounts they got, IMO.

They sacrificed individual stats to be part of a 60 win team. Teams are paying attention to that these days.

I think Carroll actually benefitted a bit from the Atlanta system.

Milsap's numbers are not that different from what they've always been, and his numbers went down progressively as they move through the playoffs.

I like both of them, but not at the amounts they signed for.

You're thinking in 2014 cap numbers. The good teams are thinking of the cap in 2017 and 2018 and realizing these contracts are complete bargains.

Yeah...I mentioned that- definitely thin it is something to consider. Also makes Anthony's contract a bit more acceptable.

So you sign Carroll and Mathews, and you already have DeRozan??

Am I missing something here?
