martin--I wouldnt say hes polished and I wanted to draft him. I would say right now he has positional awkwardness and obviously he needs to get stronger. It really is up to the Knicks to simply his game. I HOPE HOPE HOPE the Knicks Curb this 3 point shooting BS with him. Pau Gasol barely shot a three his whole career. Anthony Davis does not shoot 3's. Shooting 3's keep a 7-2 guy from grabbing rebounds or taking high% shots. It gives him an avenue to be complacent and to settle. I dont mind a game where he takes one or 2 in the flow but 90%+ of his shots need to come mid range to post. Ill be absolutely disgusted with the Knicks if I see him sitting 28 feet from the basket. This development isnt just up to KP its up to the Knicks to keep him positionally sound. He can make a pass but his game HAS NOT really involved the pass. Pass rebound block shot high% shot--driving mid range to post ONLY.

thats insane. A guy with his stroke should take the best and most efficient shots that he is capable of and he should definitely be shooting 3's.

Should they have had Dirk not take threes?

Would you rather him taking Jason Smith's 20 footers which has a brutal ROI?

Also, he is not a good rebounder, for now it would be best if he kept his defender as far away from the basket as possible.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

It's just a matter of time for Davis as far as the three point shot is concerned:http://www.nytimes.com/2015/04/25/sports/basketball/pelicans-anthony-davis-considers-adding-a-3-to-his-arsenal.html?_r=0

His game is so developed I can see an augmentation there. Kristaps need to learn the basic of the post post passing mid range shooting and go from there. We dont want a 7-2 hanging 28 feet from the basket.

in what league is the three point shot 28 feet away?

so here is what phil is thinking ....

I agree - why would you take away from his strength and focus only on something else? That makes no sense

His body might not be ready for that his rookie yr and it may be better for him to play majority of the time on the perimeter until he develops physically. Everything he does should be according to the matchup. But I would love to see us use him in a unique way where we have him coming off of screens as If he was a Korver. He could be instant impact in that area.

KP will get plenty of touches. I think he already understands how to move to the open spots and present for the pass. He's more NBA ready than people realize offensively. He already played a similar role on his team. He has to learn all the nuances of the offense and adjust to the NBA defense but he has size and a quick release which should help him a lot.

Melo wont be a problem? He is the problem. Did you watch him play last season in your beloved triangle? Does it get more selfish?

I'm telling you he's not going to be a problem. As long as the guards run the offense correctly then the ball will move and everyone will get touches. ISO after proper ball and player movement is part of the offense but so are a lot if cuts, catch n shoot, give n go etc. With an upgrade in talent the ball will move and Melo won't feel he has to do too much.

Phil, Fish and the staff won't let there be any selfishness. If we do sign a vet like West it be partly to help keep order and focus on playing the right way. Also keep in mind that the returning players got to play without Melo and learn how things are supposed to be done. Melo won't be a problem. He's not nearly as bad as people make him out to be. Especially when his team has talent.

id love to trade melo. Lets be honest we still are probably a year or so away . If melo doesnt like it phil will gladly ship him off for picks and use the extra cap space for better free agents. So we would get more picks, more free agents, and KP can develop without pressure from melo

Melo isn't going to put any pressure on KP. To the contrary he'll relieve pressure from KP and allow him to develop his full potential over time. In the beginning KP will be able to fill in and do what his skills and physique will allow him to do at this point. As he gets better and matures physically he can do more. It's actually a good thing that he has Melo here as well as the other vets we'll be adding this summer.

I think KP will do just fine on offense this year. He'll have some issues on D from time to time as he learns proper technique and defensive schemes. He'll also have some issues with the strength of some NBA bigs. Overall tho I think he'll be fine.

you have an interesting fantasy life.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

The best and most efficient shots can be found point blank. His rebounding numbers should go up very quickly as he matures and understands that the best part of his game is closer to the basket. I dont mind him taking a couple of good 3's in flow but settling to be a jump-shooter with his length and spring would be inane. If we drafted a 7-2 guy to shoot 3's we made one helluva mistake. If that was the case we shouldve drafted Kaminsky who is easily a much superior marksman

I agree with Briggs. I don't want him hoisting 3s because he's camping out there. What scenario do you want him shooting 3's instead of a 10-12 jumper over someone? I mean a transition 3 or broken play fine but flow of the offense he should be mid range to point blank. Especially on offense he's very physical. If he gets pushed around on that side of the ball hell be draining FTs all day.

I was thinking maybe he sets a high screen for a guard etc, but someone else should be doing that so KP can crash the boards or be around the paint for easy buckets assisted from guards if his guy sags or doubles..

Keep KP around the basket.

10-12 foot shots are tough shots. He should play the same type of offense that he was playing in Europe and he should play to whatever strengths that he has.

Take shots where you spread the offense and are very efficient.

Remember ... if he sets up (at times) behind the arc, the floor is spread and when he catches, he can either shoot that sweet j or pump fake and completely phuck up the defense.

If they use him right, he will be all over the floor. If you limit his game, it would be a crime.

Some games Porzingis will probably be camping out and raining threes when the defense isnt giving him much to work with in the paint. Also will be times when he will be able to take it to the rim pretty easily. You dont want him camping out at the arc all the time or he wont be able to clean up at the rim. Just want him to use his weapons wisely.

and if I take ANYTHING from that video its that KP should absolutely not be focusing on gaining weight. He should be training like a fighter. Building his core out, with strength calisthenics.. push ups and pull ups and sprinting drills and swimming. Tons of swimming. He will gain weight naturally as his body thickens and his muscles naturally get stronger, but gain weight? No. Core strength. That guy is a mix of physical and graceful. Did AK47 need to gain weight to be effective? Did Tayshawn Prince? Dirk got thick but also played 10 years ago. Did Reggie Miller need to gain weight? Rip Hamilton?

Right now KP is listed at 7'1 220 and I think that's legit. His "grown man" weight? KG is listed at 6'11 250 on NBA.com and I can say with great confidence being a long skinny dude that he might be at 250, but he's about 225 in the below photo.. not a pound over 230.

KP is a deer. If I wanted a cow Id trade for Kobe. His ideal physique is 10 pounds of man-muscle more than he has now and that's it. All lifting weights is going to is phuck up his joints. Pull ups and push ups like Hershall Walker who never lifted a weight in his life. Good diet is huge, and swimming to build stamina and small muscles while keeping weight off his ankles, knees, hips, etc....

I have heard KP's core and legs are fantastic, so that's great to hear. We will see....

completely agree. take the best and most efficient shots available. don't camp out and of course keep moving.

I never said to camp out, I said that he should take the shots that he is good out.

Good quote from Phil:

"This young man has better range perhaps than Pau does, a natural three-point shooter, but that's the natural evolution of the game at this time," Jackson said. "There's a lot of comparisons to him. I think the structure of their bodies is very similar and the activity level, how they run, their athleticism, is similar."

so here is what phil is thinking ....

I will say this... he slashes really well. It only takes him 2 dribbles from the 3 point line and he's in dunking range. If he gets hit he's going to be getting guys in foul trouble.

This guy is a fantastic athlete. Quick feet and springy legs. If you don't know what your looking for focus on his feet when he lands. Notice how his feet are turned to both absorb the body weight but also spring into a run. This kid has really high level fundamental agility that is innate. You can teach that. He looks like a springy skinny kid. You know those fast little phuckers like Cameron Payne who even though built like a burnt match is slippery fast and wirey strong? KP is like that... only 7'3.

Just stay healthy baby

In his last Workout KP was at 233 lbs. He's going to keep getting stronger with pro training and diet. They aren't going to train him to lose his speed and agility. If anything they'll work with him to improve his athletic ability and gain strength. He will be able to do what he's already been doing and just do it better. He will get the ball at all different spots on the floor in this offense.

He's capable of scoring in a myriad of ways. He's got to test out how he handles NBA level Defenders. Thing is that they tried to defend him with smaller players and it didn't stop KP from getting open and getting his shot off. His ability to score on the perimeter is a plus. We want him on the move and playing fast. With that quick release he's gonna be a problem for teams.

That's the most recent weight they have him listed at from several sources and even on his Wikipedia page. Some sources still use the old 220 lbs but that's really old info. The Knicks list him in press release as 7-3 233. I believe this is the most accurate info.
KP has a very good chance to be the best player in this draft!
