I think its honest.. I mean tons of guys love playing in the garden. Not all of them would want to live and play here. I think other guys would like to, but it doesnt work out for one reason or another.

I think most players who make that statement have not had a chance to speak with their accountants when they talk to the media. By the time free agency comes around, they realize what the incidence of NYS and NYC tax will do to their salaries.

I would support an initiative by the NBA to allow adjustment for player's income tax outside the confines of the salary cap (i.e. the Knicks should be able to offset state income tax so that the actual salary of a player in Miami matches the salary of a player in NY - after taxes). Even then, a player's marketing dollars are reduced by NYS and NYC taxes.

Fish, your situation is not exactly comparable. Compare with Florida which has no state income tax. Our offer of $15MM to a 5 year max player is closer to $13.2MM where Miami has the full $15MM.

Do you know of any player that made his decision on TAXES to play for one team or another?

IM not sure its that cut and dry. I dont pay NYC taxes at all being a NJ resident. I remember reading how Jeter's tampa residence saved him millions in taxes as well... so I dont think its an issue. I also think these guys are more concerned with their salary than the money they actually take home. Its a guage among your peers, etc

Also the simple fact is there are more financial opportunities in this area. Look at elite property values. They hold here. Nobody shortsells luxury places around here, I just dont think it matters... not much at least.
