Hopefully Fisher can give this dude more time to play, He plays as a SG and we don't know whether he can shoot or not. As for thiz development the Knicks next season won't have time for that. We are already developing Langston Galloway, Early, Thanasis, our first round pick (presuming we don't trade it) and a few others. Worst part is we don't even have a pick next season to fall back on. We need DEVELOPED players not players that need developing.

Time that the Knicks don't have?

Ledo is worth taking a look at. The Knicks do in fact have the time and need to search out and develop young prospects. Ledo is a talented kid that probably just needs a chance to show what he can do. They already know that he has significant talent. We have scouts that have nothing but time to research and find prospects. I might add that the Knicks staff is actually pretty good at scouting and finding players with talent. It's not an accident that they found Galloway, Shved and are taking a look at Ledo. You can't know how a player will handle playing in the NBA until you put them on the floor, but they already have some idea about his talent level and what they think he should be capable of. It's pretty clear that Phil wants players who are well rounded and unselfish. Just looking at who they've been targeting you can see the passing with Shved and Ledo and also the ability and willingness to attack the basket.

Ricky Ledo signed a 10-day contract with the New York Knicks out of the D-League and here is a scouting report on his game:

Situation: New York’s starting point guard, Langston Galloway, was a former D-League product and the Knicks went back to the minors for another Call-Up in the backcourt. Ledo joins a New York roster that’s missing Tim Hardaway Jr. due to a sprained right wrist, Cleanthony Early with a sprained left ankle, and Jose Calderon with an Achilles injury. Ledo was a second round pick in 2013 and spent the past two seasons with the Dallas Mavericks before he was cut to create space for Amar’e Stoudamire. He was a McDonald’s All-American out of high school and committed to Providence, but was ruled academically ineligible and never played a game in the NCAA. He declared for the draft after what would have been his freshman year and primarily spent time in the D-League during his first two professional seasons.

Size/Athleticism: Ledo has good size for the shooting guard position at 6-foot-6, although he can bulk up his frame. He is a good athlete with decent length. The physical tools are there.

Ballhandling: Ledo is a talented ballhandler that can create his own offense off the bounce. He possesses a good first step and can get to the rim with his dribble. He uses a mixture of crossovers and hesitation moves to attack the basket.

Shooting: As a 28.8% three-point shooter, Ledo isn’t much of a threat from distance. He’s averaging 1.2 made threes per contest, but lacks consistency on his release.

Penetration: With a quick first step and the ability to create off the dribble, Ledo is at his best attacking the rim. He’s made 56.3% of his field goal attempts from within 8 feet, which makes up a majority of his offense. Ledo also gets to the line for 3.3 free throw attempts per contest.

Passing: Ledo is a talented passer, averaging 4.2 assists per game. He has good vision with a 1.8 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Defense: Ledo has potential to be a solid defender, but has been average in this aspect. His lack of experience shows on this end of the floor, as he sometimes gambles or falls for fakes.

Rebounding: Ledo contributes 4.6 rebounds per game in the D-League. He uses his athleticism to contribute a couple boards in each contest, although he isn’t a standout in this area.

Versatility: At 6-foot-6, Ledo has a chance to play three positions. His best spot would be at the shooting guard position, although he could slide over to the small forward spot in smaller lineups. If the Knicks want to experiment with Ledo’s combination of size, quickness, and passing ability, they could try him at the point guard position. This probably won’t happen with Galloway in the fold, however, there’s potential.

Final Analysis: Ledo is a talented shooting guard with the size and athleticism to play in the NBA. He can create his own offense or dish some pretty assists, but needs to improve on impacting the game without the ball in his hands. New York has already found a talented D-League guard in Galloway, so adding Ledo could be another D-League success story for the Knicks. He still needs time to develop, but with the Knicks in a rebuilding year, this seems like a good situation for both sides.

I dont follow... the only teams that dont have time are the ones that never develop players. You should always have a pipeline and guys that fit into your (potential) future

With or w/o Shved tonight, it looks like Ledo may get even more time than yesterday. I'm not gonna focus on shooting % tonight. He'll be nervous playing at MSG for the first time and may not make some shots. It may not be pretty at times but all I wanna see from Ricky is aggressiveness and the continued willingness to make plays for himself and others.

Who has the Knicks developed the last 20 years?

Thank God Fisher is no longer our coach, now let's get Calderon out of here:)

Tell ya what too -- I wouldn't have to see much more from Ricky. Offer this dude the same deal we just gave Langston Galloway several days back -- the rest of the year plus a partial guarantee for next year. Anything can happen with Ledo -- on talent alone, he's better than Shved and Galloway. This guy could go out and drop 30 tonight, who knows. If that ever happened now you're looking at an agent playing hardball, not to mention other suitors coming out of the woodwork competing for his services...I'd like to see us cover ourselves here.

Phil has just got here recently so the jury is still out but we're witnessing Galloway being developed and Shved is playing at a higher level than he has before. Lou Amundson and Lance Thomas are playing better IMO, so is Cole Aldrich.

Can't be cute when adding talent, when we are the worst team in the NBA. I missed his first game, but I've been a fan already and agree.....We should lock him down. He just needs to get back in shape, and he's good. Nice SG who makes THj / Early expendable.

Jeremy Tyler 2.0? He needs serious playing time and development.

The Difference is that Ledo's skills are more readily transferrable to the system and playing in the NBA at the guard spot. Ledo isn't raw in any way, tho he does need more development. He already has NBA level passing ability and he is another guard that has good size and ability to attack the basket like Shved. We have to see how he handles more minutes at this level. Still he's basically an additional draft pick in terms of his talent and age. He has a lot of upside left at just 22 and no college. He was with the Dallas organization and seemed to show promise but they aren't in the same situation as the Knicks. Dallas is in total win now mode and they really didn't have the time or inclination to further develop Ledo. They did recognize his talent tho.

He is a YOUNG JR SMITH, with less athleticism and potential
THough when he gets HOT, he looks like a mini Durant

That's somewhat of an insult to compare him to JR. Yes he's a scorer, but I think he's more of a natural passer and also unlike JR, Ledo actually prefers to drive to the hoop. That is one thing that makes him a better fit for this team. Drawing fouls is an extremely underrated aspect of the game. It's the highest % scoring so any time you can get to the line at a high rate it makes you more efficient.

Most fans were happy to see all of them go. So either those players did develop and the fans are dumb or it really didnt happen.

I choose the latter.

I think you need to take a breath with this dude. It is phenomenal that after 15 years, there are Knicks fan that get excited about new/potential Knick players and change in personel. this fanbase needs more people like that who can balance out those who truly feel horrible about this club.
More to the topic, You are basing this off of less than ten minutes of play. being able to shoot the ball makes him a better fit for this team actually.

I'm not basing my take on the kid off what he did last night alone. I went and looked at some of his D League game tape and also read several scouting reports. He's pretty much what his scouting report suggests that he is. JR did not drive enough and that was a constant problem. He preferred to jack up bad shots. Ledo prefers to drive although he also likes to shoot, but he's a more willing passer IMO tho JR isn't bad at passing either. But let's keep this in perspective. I'm not hyping the kid only talking about his raw skills. I've posted that he needs more development and time to adjust to the level of play in the NBA and not to mention this system. He'll have to prove what he is going to be at this level.

Another thing is that JR talked about the Triangle like it was Mandarin Chinese. Ledo was totally unfazed by the Triangle. He said he was already grasping the concepts. Already in one game after one practice he did look far less confused than JR did after a full camp.

watching him play tonight, you can tell this kid has offensive skill. he can create off the dribble and he's been looking to distribute, not just chuck. i hope we can turn this kid into something special.. seems like he definitely has the talent.

This is the perfect system for a kid like him. He'll learn to think the game and not just play dumb basketball. He'll learn to play more under control which should be good for him.
