I agree. I don't recall Windhorst breaking stories in the past. Also, any front office is going to explore opportunities around the draft. That is part of their job. That doesn't mean it is happening. What if the Knicks are looking to swap with Philly and get #32 in the second round if the lottery comes out #1 ny, #2 Philly. It also is a bit annoying that mistakes of the past are just tossed onto the new administration and it is assumed that they are going to do something stupid.
Windhorst follows Lebron. Lebron doesn't like Kevin Love. The Knicks may have inquired about Kevin Love. Or there may be speculation they have.
Whether they trade the pick or not, it's due diligence to see what the market value of the pick is.
But have no illusions - the plan will be to make "win now" moves this summer. Phil and Dolan don't want to lose face. Neither does Melo. Melo wants to compete ASAP. They will make some desperate win now moves, which usually tend to back fire, in my long experience as a Knicks fan and a sports fan in general.
Also, for people saying 2015 cap space was the plan all along... Phil predicted playoffs this season. So did Fisher. So did Melo. They wanted to make the playoffs. There is no way going 12-49 was "ALL PART OF THE PLAN"... Phil is embarrassed and there is a direct quote from him saying that his experiment has been an epic failure so far. Phil may be able to right the ship this summer - I'm leery of Dolan's influence and Melo's influence (remember, his CAA camp basically arranged that Bargnani trade), but Phil can have a good summer. There is just not very much evidence to support this.
