every successful long tenured head coach... they have the full backing of ownership/management etc.... that is the only way a head coach can succeed for any length of time.. jr smith put it best.. he was going to do whatever he wanted because he was going to be on the team longer than the coach.. and HE WAS RIGHT.... the reason why head coaches keep moving around is because ownership/management dgaf about coaches...

if you want fisher to succeed... you give him the job and make him the unquestioned leader... you should not do anything that jeopardizes that until you know he is no longer that guy...

when is that? What if we win 30 games next year? His leash is not long, this is NY. Part of it is luck and he better get damn lucky. So far, not so lucky.

I think that if shaw was not already in denver then this job was his.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

We already replacing Fish? Really guys?
Haven't we seen enough to know change is not always the cataylst for improvement?
Phil has proven a lot in his career. He groomed Kobe and Jordan from all stars to gods.
Who has more rings? Nobody.
He wanted Kerr, inquired about Shaw and he picked Fish. IN the long run any one of them might be great and Fish is very well thought of by players still in the league.
I trust phil to pick his successor more than I trust his unproven ability to construct a roster.

Letter grades are still two seasons away.

he will not be retained if he wins < 30 games next year unless his team suffers devastating injuries.

Of course it would be silly to fire him this year.

there really is no way to tell for sure... doc rivers was considered a horrible coach until ray allen and kg came aboard..

dolan probably gives him until his first 5 game losing streak next year... i would say he def needs something longer than that to prove that he can't handle the job...

i'm actually fairly optimistic with fisher.. he says all the right things and i like where his head is at during the post game and at news conferences... something as simple as offense/defense subs late in close games he understands... something mda or woodson never got... and i like his staff also with the exception of rambis... he's put in some nice wrinkles into the offense...

head coaches are so tough to judge sometimes but if you are spending all this money on someone to lead your team you should give him every opportunity to succeed which includes not undermining his status within the organization...

When your best player is a passive player like Carmelo, your head coach can't be as soft as Fisher. You need a strong coach who has the guts to publicly criticize him to get him to play at all level. Shaw is that guy. Fisher try to be politically correct while dealing with a dude who doesn't know how to lead from the front. We need an Alfa male on this squad; one who will not be afraid to criticize others when they are not giving it all during the game

Thank God Fisher is no longer our coach, now let's get Calderon out of here:)

Yea you can't overlook that Shaw was given a lot of credit as a developmental coach for the Pacers when they embarrassed us in the playoffs. I bet Phil brings him on regardless

The Knicks need to bring George Bernard Shaw on board
I've got a fever and the only prescription is more cowbell!
