Yup. I'd lean towards Monroe because he's younger and has shown growth but would not be mad if we get Milsap

Phil is not bringing in a high priced PG like Dragic so no need to sweat it

not really sweating it but if the cap does increase substantially, we are going to see some crazy contracts this summer and fans would not have adjusted to the new cap number so it will cause a ruckus.

more like $50mm. Monroe and Dragic are $20mm each? Closer to $10-$14 range tops.

Knicks just need to add good pieces. Monroe is a nice piece.

Dragic's max contract is 30% of the cap. I think someone will offer him way more than $10 mil per. I don't think it would require $65 mil for those 3, but I think it would be closer to 58 to 60 mil. It would leave room for one small signing (maybe around 7 mil per) and then vet min guys.

I don't know where the cap will be. Right now it's what $58mil? I don't see it drastically increasing. Maybe to $60-62mil. It's going to be hard to add a 3rd player with only $7-10mil to split between 12 other players. This is why I wanted Melo to sign for less or not at all.

Best bet is to go for young players, stockpile assets, build culture and wait out Melos contract

The only benefit of resigning Melo was to fill the seats and even that didn't go well or is irrelevant since the Knicks are a .200 team with him and the Garden is still full. MSG ratings are down I'm sure

So Reggie Jackson, Monroe, Middleton? It's risky, but it's something we haven't really tried before. Working out pretty good for Dallas.

Is the big bump coming in the 2016 offseason or the 2017?

2017. They put in an opt after 6yrs during the last lockout. So they could restructure after 6yrs instead of 10

Check that might be 2018

No, I think the big bump is coming because of the TV rights deal- cap will jump regardless of the CBA by I think $20mil or something. I think the new tv deal kicks in 2016-17 season, but I wasn't sure if the money gets paid in advance of that season (2016) or after it (2017). The problem with it is essentially every team gets $20mil or less spending money (depending how over the cap they were), really disadvantaging bad teams with cap space (good FA's can get a hefty pay check AND play for a competing team)- so if we luck out this offseason, we're then screwed again in either 2016 (and wouldn't have a pick- weep!), or 2017 (which at least gives us a chance to get our **** together in the 2016 offseason), but the downside is it's a lock year, so the good FA's may just re-sign with their respective teams in case the new CBA is more unfavourable.

2017.

NBA Projected Cap (Probasketballtalk.com) - mostly based on new TV Contract revenue spread over time plus an additional 6.6% growth projection each year (which I think they took from recent historical growth %). Note that the current TV Revenue deal is $930 Million per year and the new Deal pays $2.4 Billion (per year) in Year 1 up to $3.1 Billion in year 10.

2009: $58,680,000

Thanks- that works out better for us then, as if we strike out this offseason, we still have 2016. It's vital we have a winning team by the 2017 offseason.

I hope that is correct. If it is then we can probably afford an injury to Melo

If I'm looking at this from a purely Cap/Financial perspective....this year and next are the perfect time to have cap space and sign/lock into players like Monroe at $15 MM range for 3-4 years. In 4-5 years, a $15 MM contract might be equivalent to about $20 MM.
