At today’s #Knicks practice, Fisher said, “I don’t think shutting down is the conversation we are having” re: Melo’s knee issue.

And has the salary to match. The only reason why folks want melo shut down is because they know he isnt good enough to carry this garbage. The same garbage he endorsed.

Huh?

Do you think teams consult their best players before they make deals? lets talk about one we know he endorsed...JR Smith.

Oh I guess I misunderstood. I thought you were saying that he'd endorsed this team we're putting out on the floor right now. To be honest though, I think that Melo is (or at least was) made aware of things we were going to do but I he had that much influence on the trades/deals. I'm sure he suggested we get JR though.

he endorsed the team for this season when he signed that ridiculous 124 million dollar contract. honestly you guys infantilize carmelo anthony by denying him any personal agency, responsibility, culpability. nobody forced him to sign here but he did. he was free to take less money but he didn't.

every post like this conveys a subtext of carmelo = innocent victim/patient hero.

really?

No, it doesn't. It's just that, to you, every post that doesn't b*tch and moan about his contract and ego is one that shows him nothing but praise. I've been criticizing him this season but you just seemingly look out for the posts that don't 100% sh** on him (other than F5 and Splat's).

you're full of shyte guy. he signed a contract. that is an agreement, and as an agreement serves as an endorsement of the team that is on the floor this season. never mind the money or the ego. the act of signing = endorsing.

So Melo's not about the money like you have said countless times? He actually just believed in this team? Good to know.

stop it. you're playing games. you know the intent of my statement but i will dumb it down for you anyway: when i say never mind the money or the ego, it means that the central issue is whether you understand that

signing = endorsing and therefore melo need not be painted as an innocent victim or dupe, which is really the subtext of your post.

clear?

Nope. Not clear at all. You see, you're taking what I said to the farthest extreme because of how much you dislike him and you're contradicting your previous sentiments. Melo signed here because he wanted the money. He was not looking at this roster, which wasn't even fully put together when he signed.
Knicksfan: Hypocrite league that fines players after the game for flopping but in the game and with obvious flopping they call the fouls.

“With Melo, you obviously know he’s had some issue with the knee,” Fisher added. “But it’s not a situation where we’re thinking about asking him to step out for the rest of the season. I think he wants to play... We thought it would be a good stretch to get a good recovery in and hopefully, he can be back with us next week.”

TripleThreat wrote:IMHO, this is the wrong move. I believe Melo is running lame intentionally to avoid the blame process for the losing and to try to force Jackson's hand in terms of attempting to trade Meo.

Precisely. Melo does nothing, repeat NOTHING that does not have his interests, and his interests alone, front and center. It's too late for him to say that he didn't contribute to the losing, but he will attempt to get himself away from the blame, see how the offseason goes, and if he's not happy he'll force a trade (please for the love of god).

In a perfect world, Melo shuts it down and the Knicks are BETTER without him, start playing as a team. But still suck enough to get the first pick.

The new new core: Randle, RJ, IQ. Maybe Mitch. Future pick. Future trade. Future FA.

It just occurred to me.

All the crap fans have said about David Lee applies in multiples to Melo.

People accused Lee of stat padding, because he was not an involved defender.

Yet, they have spent 4+ years defending Melo who is worse than Lee on defense.

Yet, Lee contributed in multiple aspects of the game including elite rebounding and quality passing. Melo rebounds his own misses and he is largely allergic to passing.

In sum, look at the logic used to disparage Lee and Melo comes up looking barely credible if you're honest.

Biases are so slow to change. Melo has been given so much leniency for his appallingly low quality brand of basketball. Frankly, I find the adulation he has received to be completely mystifying.

Nobody ever steps up to defend his basketball skills. Really. People love to defend him, but they can almost never counter with a positive rebuttal as to why they think he is so good.

EDIT: I know those "people" may be dwindling, but the ferocity of the defense of Melo for so long has been Homeric. It is always refreshing when someone steps forward and says they were wrong. That is a good thing, not an occasion to gloat. The fans need to bond over a real future, not a failure like Melo.

wait-- what about

1) carrying his teams to the playoffs every year (reaching the opening round is...)
2) all-star appearances (popularity contests have validity.... right?)
3) his ppg over his career, including being the scoring champ (never mind that it takes 23 shots to score 25 points)
4) the number votes he gets for mvp and how he came thisclose to winning it (hey he's "in the conversation")
5) being the most "versatile" scorer in the league (that and a buck ninety will get you some grik coffee)

these are the notions (the ones not in parentheses) that keep getting shoved in my face since november 2010.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%
