everything above those two attributes is gravy. he's a 4-5 million dollar player if he achieves these two things.

yup and if his offense comes along like I expect. I expect him to be our #2 option after Melo then he is going to be worth $7-9mil per

Which is a bargain when you consider his age and a guy in his 30s like Gasol will get $14mil

Wrong parameters IMO.

Shump should never be projected as the # 2 option. We should either acquire, draft or groom that offensive player.

The only player currently on the Knicks who might have a shot at that designation is Tim or on outside chance if Early turns into a phenom.

But the odds are it will be a FA next who becomes # 2 next season.

Shump could average 15 points, 5 assists, 1-2 steals and 4 boards and be the defensive stopper. That's damn plenty right there. But that does not make him the # 2 option ever.

Shump's offense should always primarly be in the flow of the offense without requiring him to be featured in it.

That being the case, as I imperiously state it, Shump playing to his abilities is an excellent long-term player at $5-7M a year if he consistent.

That is what this year will verify or not.

If he averages 18p plus the rest this season, he'll be a minor deity in NYC. I think 13 pts plus the rest and top D is plenty. More points is gravy. Its possible, but I wouldn't predict 18.

He'd average 28 if not for JR

He has only shot 40% from the floor once in his first three years. I think hitting his rookie mark there might be a good goal. If he can get 10-12 pts. a game that would be great.

Maybe if MDA was here and we were putting up 130 every game!

Shump has shown flashes of being a really effective player and able to put up the occasional impact game.

Honestly, if he can average high single digits - 8-10 points every game in the flow of the offense with a good percentage - that is probably as much as anyone should expect of him.

if he starts and is averaging less than 10 points a game then something is wrong... maybe with him but more likely systemically.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

Seriously man

I don't know why it's so hard for some to see that Woodson's system www a big reason for his lack of production. The guy shot less than 5 shots a game. How do you get into any kind of a flow when your shot attempts are so sporadic because the offense consists of you standing in the corner out of Melo and JR's site.

You really think he is going to average 8pts(which would be a career low by the way) starting in this offense.

Open your minds. Get your heads out of the gutter(Woodson's system)

there are plenty of players who start and don't average 10 or more.

Its rare- and likely impossible in present day NBA- to have all five starters average 10 or more.

Now - if you're making an argument about how scoring should come from the G2 spot, then, that is a fair argument to make - but make it with Fisher, not me!

So who do you expect to average 10 or more in this starting lineup? Acy, Dalembert? Someone other than Melo has to score right? MELO, Shumpert and Calderon will score in that order. THJ will get his as 6th man. JR will be the odd man out because he is too erratic offensively and defensively and he is a chucker. JR will have a tough time finding minutes. Of all the players he will have the hardest time buying into the new team oriented system. And by his own admission. He said it's going to take him a few months while the others have already bought in.

He averaged like 6.8pts per game the last 2 yrs or something like that. His lack of offensive production is due to his lack of offensive skills. Woodson's style didn't create enough opportunities for him true. But if Shump was more gifted offensively then he would have gotten more touches. A reliable jumper, jumper off the dribble, go to moves to get to the paint, ability to finish around the rim. These are all things Shump has lacked which is why he didnt get touches.

With that said Shump always plays within the system. So he should see more opportunities with Fisher and if he excells its because he is a product of a good system. Which we will all take. He focus on doing all the intangible things like rebounds, defense, finding the open man and hitting his damn jumpers when given. We will all be ecstatic.

What player's PPG tripled when Woodson left (or even simply improved a lot after he left)? This is just ridiculous IMO.

This. Shump is not a very good spot shooter. His %s dont lie. They stink. He's got zero feel for the game on offense. He either attacks the basket (and he's not the best finisher) or forces a jumper. The reason he scored 5 points or less in 37 games last year and in 7 games didnt score at all is because.... are we ready??? Wait for it... wait for it.... its because he's not a good scorer.

Melo continues to put 20+ up every game.

Calderon probably puts up 12+ or so

Amar'e and Bargs are a bit of a log jam- and I would think they put up 10+ if they both play significant minutes - and if one is released/traded/dumped - I'd expect the other to average around 14+

JR will play, I'm sure, and average 10-14 depending on how things shake out

Same for THjr- 10-12

But that's all the double digit scoring I see next season on this roster.
