I have no problem with that if we were doing so with young talent with upside, picks and cap space.. The east as a whole is gearing up.. It is imperative that we keep half the roster with youth, its the only way we have a chance. We have to hit big on at least 1 kid and hope we can get solid help out of 2 or 3 more. Only way to balance out Car-Money Half the roster filled with youth, are you kidding me?? was the spurs roster half way filled with yutes, what about miami, dallas, boston, lakers, houston. You need 1 or 2 quality youngins in your rotation, thats it, anymore and your a first round exit at best. No im not kidding, the Knicks have to that many so they can find the tony Parker , Ginobli, and Duncan yes the Spurs have them now but where the hell do you think they came from. Miami is a unique situation where they landed the best player in the NBA but they also already had Wade who was top 5 at the time, Lebron can make every situation work but he isnt on the Knicks roster and he never will be. Dallas Nowitzi, Boston Pierce, Lakers Kobe. In case you havent noticed all those teams developed at least 1 superstar themselves.Do Knick fans really think Marc Gasol, Caledron and Melo making 53 million out of 66 million dollar projected cap is going to win an NBA title? Unless the Knicks hit on a young star making next to nothing they arent competing for championships they will be competing for 5 seeds Why do u think the Cavs situation was so attractive for Lebron? They will have room for another max player plus multiple high pick players on rookie deals. They will have a an All Star core and the Bird rights of #1 picks waiting in the wings Free agents want to play with other stars but they also want to get paid. During Melo's tenure the Knicks have only had the 3.6 exception to work with. Next offseason will be the first that the Knicks have a star and cap space. I don't think players consider home grown talent as a criteria for where they choose to go. I think they just want to play with another really good player. The Knicks have to hope that they can be like the teams you mentioned that had a star and were able to acquire a second and in some cases a third. In regards to having half the roster with youth I don't think that translates to success. Yes you have to develop youth and pick smart but the really good teams are able to get really good vets on value contracts because those guys want to compete for a championship. The Knicks unless Melo misses all of next year with an injury are not going to luck into a situation like the spurs did and they don't have the picks to get anything more than guys that might make the rotation. It may depend on the star It may depend on the money It may depend on the roster It may depend on ability to win It may depend on all of the above The Lakers, Heat, Rockets didn't really capitalize to the degree you'd think they could for various reasons
The Mavs, Hornets, Bulls, Pelicans did fairly decent and a couple teams here would have been thought of as not prime destinations
Some players may end up being turned off by guys like Kobe and Melo but we'll see soon enough. Agree. Guys we know that wanted to play with Melo include, Wade, LBJ, Paul, Rondo, Noah (and possibly Rose), Kobe, D12, and Dirk. Hopefully after a year of Phil running things and Fisher coaching the perks of playing in ny will not just be to play with Melo but also to be a part of a winning organization. Pau Gasol raises an eyebrow to this post who took less to play in Chicago.
Ran from Kobe, right pass Melo stopped where Noah and Rose are located As does Parsons-Dallas/Dirk adored him near equal offer, $12mil less than Melo Bosh-Houston adored him equally offered max
Lebron-wouldn't allow us to talk to his agent Rich Paul Rondo-started recruiting Love early who isn't free
Love-publicly pleading for a trade to Cleveland or GSW when he could wait to become a free agent to play here Paul-had 2 chances to force a trade here like Melo and passed
Not quite sure I can see what you're getting at. EDIT: I should add Chicago, Houston, Dallas were the list of teams Melo chose. The only team who came in hot pursuit late were the Lakers Pau took more than the Knicks could pay. The Lakers are reloading for 2016. Melo never was in play for Houston. Bosh was their back up plan. Love is a UCLA guy and wants out of Minny. NY isn't an option at this point. If he can play with LBJ or go to Golden State why should he put things on hold for a year. A lot of factors on where and why guys went places but I don't see any other reason in NY other than the only thing to offer was a 3.6 mil contract that was given to Jason Smith. Is Jason Smith ever mentioned in the salary context of the guys that I believe you suggest are shunning Melo and the 3.6 mil his team has to offer? LOL you will eventually have to face facts. nobody of any import is coming to new york to play with carmelo! he screwed the pooch on that with his greed and selfishness. the only hope is that "system basketball" successfully trumps this douchebag... and you know what-- it just might. but that is the forced gamble jackson had to make, apparently. betcha he had to hold his nose on that one. and unlike his doing (in jackson-speak) "exactly what we kind of asked him to do," (LOL) in terms of his ridiculous and disgusting contract, you had better pray he does exactly what he is being asked to do, no "kind of" qualifiers. next season the knicks absolutely need to make the playoffs or you can kiss the following four years goodbye. screw melo and GO KNICKS!!! Truly sig worthy line. You're HATE/love neurosis is nothing if not entertaining. And if the Knicks make the playoffs, you can complain about our shehitty first round pick. If we miss the playoffs you'll fall in love with the pick, especially if it lands very high in the lottery. Care to provide me an answer how old Duncan, Ginobli, Parker were when they won their first chip? What about their second? If questions prove to be very difficult to answer how about some follow-ups When the Spurs went through their Finals appearance-championship drought from 2008-2012 what got them over the hump? Was it signing a bunch of old vets, trying to find the next Carmeloans? or
Was it trading for, signing, drafting younger players?
Condescending Much? As far as the Spurs are concerned, it ain't that deep. Tim Duncan is an alltime great. You win 'chips in this league with all time greats. The spurs knew this and tanked to get him in the draft. Over the last twenty years, with the exception of the Pistons in '04, all time great have won 'Chips LeBron Duncan Wade Shaq KG Dirk Kobe MJ Hakeem You ain't got an all time great, odds are against you ever winning a 'chip. That's reality. But FANatic and Reality do not mix. With the exception of a few teams, most NBA teams do not have an alltimers but FANatics still show up, root and hope. In the end, you hope for great memories and enjoyable rides ala '99 Knicks, '89 Knicks, '84 Knicks. None of those teams had a shot in hell to win it all, but those teams still remain near and dear to my heart. Best shot we had was '94, but Hakeem is/was a better player than Ewing...It was that simple.
